Jet Blue Mechanical Failure Triggers Emergency Landing; FAA To Investigate
The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation after a mechanical problem on a JetBlue flight from Las Vegas to New York this weekend led to an emergency landing, grounding 135 rattled passengers. JetBlue confirmed to ABC News that the captain of Flight 194 declared an emergency landing on Sunday because of a "mechanical indication" in the cockpit. Officials at Las Vegas' McCarran Airport said the aircraft had hydraulic problems in the air and had to return to the airport. "People were getting sick. Some people were throwing up. There were a lot of people getting nauseous," passenger Tom Mizer told the New York Post. One passenger told the newspaper that throughout the flight the plane continuously lurched from side to side and went into step turns. Another passenger said that people became sick onboard and began to vomit from the motions of the plane. For more on this story: abcnews.go.com

FAA says holes in roofs not caused by blue ice
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating whether frozen airplane sewage caused damage to two homes in Long Island near John F. Kennedy airport. Lois Farella and Anne Grace of Valley Stream, Nassau County, heard a loud bang at 3:30am on Sunday and found holes in their roofs that punched through shingles, wood and insulation which they believe were caused by frozen airplane sewage, commonly known as "blue ice." A wet, brown stain was discovered in Grace's attic below the hole in her roof. Frozen airline waste occasionally falls from faulty sewage tanks and is called blue ice because of a chemical that is used to disinfect and break down solids in the waste. The FAA says on its website that such incidents are rare and that many reported blue ice incidents may be caused by migrating birds, as reports of such incidents increase around autumn, when birds migrate. Blue ice that falls from airplanes melts and disintegrates before it hits the ground, the FAA says. SOURCE: CBS, NBC, FAA

FAA To Ease Flight Restrictions, Bill Cosby Not Dead
First up, the Federal Aviation Administration, or, FAA is finally gonna do some digging to determine whether or not personal electronic devices like your iPhone actually cause interference that could endanger your flight. We all know the answer to this one - hellz no! How do we know this? Because planes aren't dropping out of the sky in crazy numbers despite all the rule-breaking passengers who use their devices in violation of these warnings. Not that I ever -- I always listen to the flight attendants and follow the rules. But seriously, if your laptop or mp3 player could actually take down a plane, something tells us they wouldn't rely on the honor system in terms of having them turned off. Anyways, like we said, the FAA's looking into it and we could see a relaxing of these strict take-off and landing policies regarding personal electronics? What do you guys think? About time right? www.digitaltrends.com Next up, Twitter is an amazing social networking tool that can spread important information almost instantly. It's also developed an incredible knack for declaring living people dead. This week's unfortunate victims of such Twitter hoaxes are Bill Nye, the super awesome Science Guy and Bill Cosby, both of whom are alive and well - or as well as can be expected for two guys who have to explain to their friends and families that they're not dead. Seriously, poor Bill Cosby has been declared dead like half a dozen times. I mean sure, internet pranks have their place, but ...

I shot a photo roughly every two miles between take-off in San Francisco and landing in Paris CDG to make this airplane time lapse.
Big thanks to the folks at http://uxlondon.com for inviting me to europe to speak - if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have made the trip. Shot with a 5d2, a time-lapse controller, and a 16mm - 35mm, mixed with some iPhone shots. The music is a modified template "Gain" used with permission from DETUNE ltd. denkitribe http://soundcloud.com/denkitribe/gain - I arranged on the Korg iMS20 iPad App. Edits and pans in After Effects CS5 and iMovie.
The photos during take-off and landing are all computer models and totally rendered because I would never use an electronic device when the FAA prohibits them. I did get lucky and have a whole row to myself to setup the tripod and gear.
Thanks to my neighbors for not minding an SLR click every 2 to 30 seconds for 11 hours, and thanks to the whole Air France flight crew for being insanely friendly and allowing me to shoot. Thanks to @ztaylor for showing me the Korg iMS20 iPad App. Thanks to @jayzombie and the #nerdbird on the way to SXSW this year for helping me come up with the idea. Thanks to @somnabulent for the idea of live scoring. Thanks to you for actually reading this far. You are a champion.

Sticky Rice's Sushi in Space
This was shot for a small chain of restaurants called Sticky Rice. They have a long history of doing marketing their own way and we knew they would love this idea. Email jon@rvatv.com for more info.
Music by Battle Flags www.battleflagsmusic.com/
In collaboration with RVA TV and Bark Marketing, Sticky Rice launched a sushi plate of their popular Godzirra roll on January 1st of this year. Six months of planning and testing went into this project as a lot of variables were at play: -60F in space, FAA regulations, overheating or freezing batteries, GPS issues, stabilization, and how to make the damn sushi stay together in high winds.
Our team is hoping for national attention and plan to make a shorter commercial for local air play. We loved the Toshiba 'Chair in Space' commercial and it was the basis of this project wondering if it could happen on a shoe-string budget for a small business.

Natural Beauty
A film by Lernert & Sander
We wanted to apply 365 layers of makeup in one day to see how much is needed to go from a natural look to an outrageous one. The whole process took 9 nine hours, during which supermodel Hannelore Knuts couldn’t move and only eat and drink through a straw. We used seven bottles of Foundation S103; two bottles of Creamy Eyes E107; three Milky Lips L205 pens; and two bottles of Blush S301. All together 228.40ml of makeup.

These techniques are meant to provide basic necessities for human life: water, food, shelter, habitat, the ability to think straight, to signal for help, to navigate safely, to avoid unpleasant interactions with animals and plants, and cure any present injuries. Survival skills are often basic ideas and abilities that ancient humans have used for thousands of years. Hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, fishing, hunting and many other outdoor activities all require basic wilderness survival skills to handle an emergency situation. Bushcraft and primitive living are most often self implemented, but require many of the same skills...
