Hans Holzer (January 26, 1920 – April 26, 2009) was an Austrian-born, American pioneering paranormal researcher and author. He wrote well over 100 books on supernatural and occult subjects for the popular market as well as several plays, musicals, films, and documentaries, and hosted a television show, "Ghost Hunter" (not to be confused with Ghost Hunters, a separate show).

Holzer was born in Vienna, Austria. His interest in the supernatural was sparked at a young age by stories told to him by his uncle Henry. He went on to study archaeology and ancient history at the University of Vienna but sensing that war was imminent, his family decided it was unsafe to stay in Austria and left the country for New York City in 1938. He studied Japanese at Columbia University and, after studying comparative religion and parapsychology, claimed to have obtained a Ph.D. at a school called the London College of Applied Science. He went on to teach parapsychology at the New York Institute of Technology.

His extensive involvement in researching the supernatural included investigating The Amityville Horror and some of the most prominent haunted locations around the world. He also worked with well-known trance mediums such as Ethel Johnson-Meyers, Sybil Leek, and Marisa Anderson. Holzer has been credited with creating the term "The Other Side" (already in use, however, in nineteenth century spiritualism) or in full "The Other Side of Life". He is also sometimes credited with having coined the term ghost hunter, which was the title of his first book on the paranormal published in 1963. However, an earlier book by Harry Price published in 1936 was titled Confessions of a Ghost Hunter.

Marvin Scott (born March 10, 1944) is a politician in Indianapolis, and unsuccessful 2010 Republican candidate for election to the U.S. House of Representatives from Indiana's 7th Congressional District. He was previously the unsuccessful Republican candidate for U.S. Senator from Indiana in 2004 against incumbent Democrat Evan Bayh, but lost to Bayh, receiving 37%, 904,843 votes. Scott earlier was the unsuccessful Republican candidate for U.S. Congress in Indiana's 10th congressional district in 1994 against Andrew Jacobs, Jr. and received 47.5% of the vote, as well as in 2000 against Congresswoman Julia Carson receiving 40%, 62,233 votes. Scott also unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for Congress in the 10th district in 1996 losing to former State Senator Virginia Blankenbaker.

Scott has been a sociology professor at Butler University for eighteen years, and was president for nine years of Marvin Scott Associates, a management-consulting firm. He was also President of Saint Paul's College for two years, Assistant Chancellor of the Board of Regents for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for five years, Assistant to the Provost, and Associate Dean and Professor at Boston University for ten years. He serves on the Indianapolis Water Board, Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission, and the board of the Abraham Clark School of Law and the Regional Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Scott and his family are members of Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, where he serves as a deacon.

Carrie Luz Rodriguez (born 1978) is a Mexican-American singer-songwriter and the daughter of Texan singer-songwriter David Rodriguez and well-known Texas painter Katy Nail, and is the granddaughter of prolific Texas essayist Frances Nail. She sings and plays the fiddle, mandobird and tenor guitar.

Rodriguez started taking Suzuki Violin Lessons at her public elementary school at age 5. Her teacher, Bill Dick, remained her principal violin teacher until she left Austin at age 17 to begin music conservatory.

She studied under Roland and Almita Vamos at Oberlin Conservatory for one year (1996), then continued her music education at the Berklee College of Music under the tutelage of renowned fiddler, Matt Glaser, graduating in 2000.

Rodriguez started playing with Chip Taylor in 2001, when he asked her to join him for a European tour after seeing her play fiddle with a band called Hayseed during SXSW of 2001. She recorded her first duet album, Let's Leave This Town, with Chip Taylor in 2002 for Trainwreck Records. They toured extensively in Europe, performing on the TV show Top of the Pops as well as appearing on numerous BBC National Radio programs. Chip Taylor and Carrie Rodriguez also appeared on NPR radio program, Weekend Edition, and appeared in a feature article in the New York Times Sunday Arts Section in 2003.
