Warning - Please mute / reduce audio if wind noise makes your life restless. I am against using noise reduction, since it takes away the original sound. What do you expect when you are in the middle of the mighty ocean !!! Noise goes down after 1:35. Honk at 2:11. Whether we love or hate, air will leave us anyway, at the least expected moment !!! Don't be so annoyed with one of the 5 elements of nature - air. Instead get annoyed with your disgusting politicians. Shove a gun in their stinky mouth. Politicians have screwed this planet. Pamban Bridge
Pamban Bridge
This 97-year-old Pamban Railway Bridge is one of the India's architectural marvels; it is a functioning `Bascule bridge', which can open up in the middle, in order to allow ships to pass through. The metre gauge bridge that stood over the Palk Straits connecting Mandapam and the island of Rameshwaram at the very tip of India, was replaced recently to broad gauge bridge by Southern Railways. It was primarily done for two reasons as the old bridge outlived its life of about 60 years. Secondly, the Railways are converting all the (British built) metre gauge tracks to broad gauge. Also, let us not forget that this bridge is located at the "world's second highly corrosive environment", next to Miami, US; The location is also a cyclone-prone high wind velocity zone. The 1964 cyclone, that washed away Dhanushkodi from the face of earth, had a devastating effect on the structure. The 6776-foot (2.065 Kilometer) Pamban Bridge was opened for traffic in 1914. The spans — the mid portion that opens up — were fabricated in England, brought to India in pieces and assembled here. When a ship passes underneath the bridge, people manually rotate levers that cause the two leaves of the span to be yanked away, so that the middle section of the bridge opens up. Each of the two `leaves' weighs about 200 tonnes (440925 pounds). About 10 ships — cargo carriers, coast guard ships, fishing vessels and oil tankers — pass through the bridge every month. Until recently, the two leaves of the bridge were opened manually using levers by workers[2].
