Fans of Seibel, Starkey and Miller can breathe easy.
The format at KDKA-FM (93.7) will not be affected by the new CBS Sports Radio network, a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week lineup of national programming.
CBS announced Thursday that it has created the nation’s largest major market sports radio network, but KDKA-FM, a CBS affiliate, will remain with its local talent.
“The format isn’t changing on KDKA,” said Karen Mateo, senior vice president of communications for CBS Radio. “The programming will all stay intact. I really want to make that clear. They may take some elements of the programming such as a nationally focused sports update or commentary from a national analyst, but their lineup will stay as it is.”
While some major markets such as Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore and Houston will use all national content when the 24/7 all-sports talk radio lineup debuts Jan. 2, 2013, KDKA-FM has opted to use just various components of CBS Sports Radio.
“If there is a (nationally syndicated) morning show, they are not necessarily signing up for that,” Mateo said. “But if there is a national focused hourly update, or an NFL expert had some commentary and they wanted to take some content, that might be something they could do.”
Beginning Sept. 4, CBS Sports updates can be heard on all network affiliate stations. Original programming will include expert sports commentary and interviews with fan interaction.
Calls to KDKA-FM were not returned.
