Browse Gopherspace with original Gopher experience..
Gopher & www (World Wide Web) was started almost at the same time (for same task), but Gopher became successful first. Its because of its low-cost implement as well as easy use. But, later improvements in www killed Gopher fully. Definitely, HTTP is more powerful than Gopher protocol. Nevertheless, there are some funny geeks who are running Gopher servers without any profit. They've opened a door for upcoming generation to enjoy the history of internet practically. The URL of Gopher looks like gopher://gopher.example.com (1st gopher is replacement of http & 2nd one is replacement of www). Unlike HTTP default port (ie 80), Gopher uses 70 as default port no. To enjoy Gopher in modern web browsers, search for "The Overbite Project" & rest tasks are left to you...

WebSite UnderConstruction
New Website in a Beta stage trying stuff out Extra Information: A website (also spelled web site) is a collection of related web pages, images, videos or other digital assets that are addressed with a common domain name or IP address in an Internet Protocol-based network. A web site is hosted on at least one web server, accessible via a network such as the Internet or a private local area network. A web page is a document, typically written in plain text interspersed with formatting instructions of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML, XHTML). A web page may incorporate elements from other websites with suitable markup anchors. Web pages are accessed and transported with the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which may optionally employ encryption (HTTP Secure, HTTPS) to provide security and privacy for the user of the web page content. The user's application, often a web browser, renders the page content according to its HTML markup instructions onto a display terminal. All publicly accessible websites collectively constitute the World Wide Web. The pages of a website can usually be accessed from a simple Uniform Resource Locator (URL) called the homepage. The URLs of the pages organize them into a hierarchy, although hyperlinking between them conveys the reader's perceived site structure and guides the reader's navigation of the site. Some websites require a subscription to access some or all of their content. Examples of subscription sites include many business sites ...

Mark McCahill and Farhad Anklesaria on Gopher
Two of Gophers creators Mark McCahill and Farhad Anklesaria talk about and demonstrate thier protocol. More information @ www.kulture.com.au This video was found in a 2007 Gopher archive torrent prepared by John Goerzen. Torrent URL: www.complete.org I'm guessing the video was made sometime circa 2001 because Mark McCahill says at the start "it's been like 10 years" and based on the UI which is some version of 'Mac OS', Classic Mac OS, before OS X.

Your Roadmap to the Internet via the Bureau of Transportation Statistics - Department of Transportation 1995 - Video VH-315 - For Net novices, this video defines the Internet and encourages the viewer to discover online transportation data and information. Internet tools are explained in very simple terms: E-mail, File Transfer Protocol, Gopher, and the World Wide Web, illustrated by pages from transportation sites. Two Bureau of Transportation Statistics projects are featured: the SMART project for sharing state and local transportation reports and data sets, and geographic information services. A non-technical description of equipment and connection options for Internet access concludes the video.
