South African Broadcasting Corporation celebrates 85 years
Sunday 1 August 2021 marked exactly 85 years since the establishment of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). Following the establishment of the organisation on the 1st of August 1936, the SABC first broadcast services in English and Afrikaans, which was then the country's official languages. Broadcasts in languages such as isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho and SeTswana then followed in 1940.
The first SABC News radio bulletin went live on the 17th of July 1950. This was after the National Party (NP) took power and began implementing its racial segregation policy of apartheid. The SABC is the public broadcaster in South Africa, and now provides 19 radio stations as well as various television broadcasts to the general public. It is one of the largest of South Africa's state-owned ent...

The May 29th national and provincial elections have seen a record-breaking number of candidates, with 58-point-14 percent of the list being male and 41-point-86 percent being female.
New and smaller parties contesting the national and provincial elections for the first time are hoping to get a share of the vote from the 27-point-79 million registered eligible voters.
But what is their role in possibly influencing the elections outcome?
To find out more about what some of these parties stand for, we are joined in the studio by Doctor Mbahare Kekana, President of Forum 4 Service Delivery, Philani Mavundla from the Abantu Batho Congress and Marius Fransman for People's Movement for Change.

SABC video scams I News anchor Bongiwe Zwane's dismisses fake videos using her name to claim money
The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has been the target of yet another Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated money-making scam.
This follows videos which have surfaced on various social media platforms - purporting to be of SABC News anchors advertising a project by Elon Musk.
These fake videos claim you can make as much as R30 000 a day and that some prominent business people have already invested in this.
In the latest scam, SABC TV News anchor Bongiwe Zwane's voice is used in an automated telephone message asking people to donate money to a foundation.
Zwane has dismissed this and warns people not to fall for this scam.

Following the establishment of the organisation on the 1st of August 1936, the SABC first broadcast services in English and Afrikaans, which was then the country's official languages. Broadcasts in languages such as isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho and SeTswana then followed in 1940.
The first SABC News radio bulletin went live on the 17th of July 1950. This was after the National Party (NP) took power and began implementing its racial segregation policy of apartheid. The SABC is the public broadcaster in South Africa, and now provides 19 radio stations as well as various television broadcasts to the general public. It is one of the largest of South Africa's state-owned enterprises.
