Melinda French Gates: What nonprofits can learn from Coca-Cola
www.ted.com At TEDxChange, Melinda Gates makes a provocative case for nonprofits taking a cue from corporations such as Coca-Cola, whose plugged-in, global network of marketers and distributors ensures that every remote village wants -- and can get -- a Coke. Why shouldn't this work for condoms, sanitation, vaccinations too?TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. No Controversy? Facts for Melinda Gates
www.FactsforMelindaGates.com. Melinda Gates and her partners, including the British government and the world's largest abortion providers, have launched a $4 billion campaign to push birth control for poor women in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Ms. Gates claims that there is "no controversy" in powerful groups and governments promoting birth control for poor women, but the facts are that contraception IS controversial for a number of reasons. Share the facts today at http Facebook: www.facebook.com Transcript: On July 11, 2012, the 100th Anniversary of the first London Eugenics Conference Melinda Gates kicked off her "No Controversy" campaign in London to raise 4 billion dollars to put 120 million poor women in the developing world on birth control. No Controversy? Ms. Gates, you may have the best intentions but don't seem to understand what young women really need. We need justice, not drugs, that may have serious health consequences. Did you know that many types of oral contraceptives are classified as Group-1 carcinogens by the World Health Organization? That's the same as cigarettes and asbestos. How is this good for our health? *(www.iarc.fr Depo-Provera and the pill do nothing to stop the spread of AIDS. In fact, they can make it worse. How is this good for women? *(www.rhtp.org Ms. Gates, you say you want to help empower women, but how is it empowering to simply give us drugs so we don't get pregnant, then send us back to men who do not appreciate us? Improving Access to Family Planning | Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Providing family planning information and services to millions of women and girls in the poorest countries in the world gives them the opportunity to determine their own futures, and the best future for their children. This video played at the opening of the London Summit on Family Planning on July 11, 2012. The London Summit on Family Planning, is part of a new, coordinated effort to ensure that voluntary family planning services reach an additional 120 million women and girls in the world's poorest countries by 2020. More than 150 leaders from donor and developing countries, international agencies, civil society, foundations and the private sector also pledged their support to improving access to family planning information, services and supplies. Do you believe every girl and woman should have the opportunity to determine her own future? Spread the word that contraception is not controversial. Take the pledge, share your own story, and ask your online communities to do the same! no-controversy.com

Melinda Gates: Contraception Is Not Controversial | TEDxChange
What difference would it make if all women in the world, even the poorest, could make decisions about when and how many children to have? 200 million women who want them, don't have access to contraceptives. We don't talk about this inequity because the uncontroversial idea of deciding when to have a child has somehow become shrouded in controversy. And the victims of this paralysis are the poorest people in the world. Melinda Gates talks here about how, working together, we can change this for all women.

Reinvent the Toilet Challenge Winner | Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Bill Gates presents the "Reinvent the Toilet" award to California Institute of Technology, the winner of the "Reinvent the Toilet Challenge." In 2011, the Gates Foundation issued this challenge to create a toilet without piped-in water, a sewer connection, or outside electricity—all for less than 5 cents a day. The eight finalists attended the "Reinvent the Toilet Fair" to showcase working prototypes of their entries. Finalists include innovations such as a solar-powered toilet that generates cooking gas, a toilet that turns human waste into biological charcoal, and a toilet that turns waste into electricity.

She is the wife of Bill Gates and the co-founder and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. www.halftheskymovement.org www.facebook.com @Half Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation : www.gatesfoundation.org Transcript: "I think Half the Sky has been so fantastic because it's really put a human face. The stories that Nick and Sheryl have gathered up of real things that happen around the world to women, they've put a face on it for people who can't travel, and I think it's really galvanized people to say, 'Wow, those could be my neighbors if they lived down the street, I should do something about that.'"

Kate James of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation speaks at Rio + Social
www.unfoundation.org Kate James of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation speaks about engaging communities online and on the ground to move toward a sustainable future at Rio + Social. Rio+Social was held on the eve of Rio+20 (#RioPlus20) -- the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development being held 20 years after the landmark 1992 Earth Summit in Rio -- to give everyone a chance to help define and support UN efforts in creating the future we want (#futurewewant.). As world leaders, along with thousands of participants from the private sector and civil society, came together to discuss a sustainable future in which we reduce poverty, advance social equity and ensure environmental protection, Rio+Social provided an innovative event and global conversation about the nexus of social media, technology, and sustainability, with thousands of participants around the world. Topics of conversation included how technology and digital and social media can impact the sustainability issues being considered at Rio+20, including energy, cities, jobs, food, water, women, health, oceans, and disasters. During the event, the #RioPlusSocial hash tag trended on Twitter in multiple cities and countries around the world, as well as globally, demonstrating the widespread enthusiasm for work with the UN to create a sustainable future.
