The infamous Kiss photos from the "Hotter Than Hell" album cover session (1974)
The infamous Kiss photos from the "Hotter Than Hell" album cover session (1974)
The album was released in october of 1974 and featured a garish and colorful Japanese influenced artwork, and the back cover showed individual band shots taken by Norman Seeff at a wild party, and a composite of all four band members' makeup designs. Everyone present at the session (with the exception of Simmons) was drunk for the entire photography session. Stanley was so drunk he had to be locked in his car. Ace Frehley's image on the front cover is actually airbrushed, as a side of his face was injured in a car accident and was without makeup on half of his face at the time of the photo shoot. Gene Simmons: Norman Seeff was a very bright but strange guy who believed that photo session should be this other thing. So he would create a climate and bring down everybody and anybody. Girls who would blow you, anything that would happen just to get a sense of something. That session was one of the few times that I've seen Paul drunk. He was blitzed. There was a photo of him with a girl who had nothing on, sort of painted like "Goldfinger" with silver stuff. I don't even think Paul was aware that there were forces of gravity. So he reached over and in one shot you sort of see him nuzzling with chickie and the next second he's over the bed. He'd fallen over. At the end of the photo session I had to carry him to the car and lock him in the back seat. It was Norman Seeff's idea to put the Japanese lettering on the album cover. The result of that was the Japanese instantly took to ...

Monk Higgins & The Specialties: Lord Have Mercy
Monk Higgins & The Specialties: Lord Have Mercy
Monk Higgins' background in the church is evident on this magnificent song from the 1971 United Artists LP "Heavyweight". I first heard of Monk Higgins some 15 years ago, when I saw his name on one of my favorite Barbara Mason LPs', the soundtrack to the Pam Grier movie "Sheba Baby". Monk Higgins, together with former Raelette (the Raelettes were Ray Charles' female backing singers.) Alex Brown, wrote and produced the album. Alex also co-wrote six out of nine songs on this "Heavyweight" LP, as well as did the vocal arrangements. Original liner notes from the 1972 United Artists LP "Heavyweight": **It all started in Conway, Arkansas, where Monk Higgins was born. His roots were in gospel music -- his mother was a choir singer and his grandfather a deacon in the church. Monk, at six feet, three and 285 pounds, was a football and basketball star in high school, and in his spare time played the bass tuba in the marching band - because he was the only kid big enough to carry the instrument. At Arkansas State College he majored in music, studying piano, viola, brass instruments, woodwinds and percussion, and became adept at most of the instruments. Monk has played in jazz combos, arranged music, conducted, written music, and produced records. About his music, Monk Higgins emphasizes feeling, strong rhythm and meaningful melodic lines. He likes to feel that his music covers all tastes - on artful blending of pop, soul and gospel that will appeal to fans all over the world ...

Cher Silver Wings and Golden Rings
Cher Silver Wings and Golden Rings
Art photos of Cher from one of her lost albums from the 70's plus others, along with the song, "Silver Wings and Golden Rings" from her lost 1976 album, "I'd Rather Believe In You". By lost I mean it has never been released on CD. A little history about this album. In 1976 Cher was married to Gregg Allman (she married him right after her divorce from Sonny Bono on a weekend trip to Harrah's Las Vegas thanks to Bill Harrah's kind offer of a free plane trip. She would file for divorce from Gregg 11 days later and later recoinciled when she discovered her pregnancy) and doing the second Sonny and Cher show after asking Sonny to rejoin her as she was over wealmed doing her successful solo variety show CHER on CBS. Cher was VERY pregnant with her son Elijah Blue Allman during recording. The photos used on the album cover were actually taken for another of her lost Warner Brother's albums, Stars. Since she was so pregnant she did not wanna have her picture taken. So here she was doing a television variety show with her ex-husband, pregnant by her second husband and all of this was on television every week! Cher wore her revealing Bob Mackie gowns, sang, danced, and did comedy sketches. I remember one week she was so far along they had to put her in a bathtub full of bubbles to hide her expanding tummy. Elijah Blue Allman was born on July 10, 1976. Elijah is the half brother of Chastity Bono, At the age of 13, he toured as a guitarist with Cher on her "Heart Of Stone" Tour; he ...
