George M. Cohan - Rare film appearance 1932
The great American song composer and stage star, whose name shall not be mentioned, starred in this picture in 1932, at the age of 54. His stage career began in 1904 and ended in the 1940's. He was a 1914 charter member of ASCAP and is called "the father of American musical comedy" When this film was made he was near the end of his career, but we are fortunate to have this only surviving sound film appearance. "Give Her A Kiss". Claudette Colbert is here also.

Peg Entwistle rare film appearance in "Thirteen Women"(1932)
Peg Entwistle rare film appearance in "Thirteen Women"(1932)
Here is an all too brief chance to see and hear the legendary Peg Entwistle in the only surviving film footage of her tragically short career. Millicent Lilian "Peg" Entwistle ( February 5th 1908 - September 16th 1932) is today unfortunately remembered more for the bizarre circumstances of her death, rather than the contributions she made as a Broadway actress and (briefly) Hollywood starlet. Here are the two surviving scenes from her 1932 RKO movie Thirteen Women, in which she plays "Hazel Cousins", one of the thirteen women in the title. Peg shares the first scene with Mary Duncan, and in the second she murders her old man after receiving a rather peculiar astrological prediction from nasty Myrna Loy. Although her appearances are frustratingly short, Peg shows enough talent in these clips to suggest that she had a reasonable acting ability which sadly never got the chance to develop and flourish on screen. Watch and weep at the promise that went to waste.........

TARZAN THE APE MAN TRAILER JOHNNY WEISSMULLER 1932
TARZAN THE APE MAN TRAILER JOHNNY WEISSMULLER 1932
Theatrical trailer for the 1932 screen classic, TARZAN, THE APE MAN, starring Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O'Sullivan. Though scripter Cyril Hume's mono-syllabic portrait of Tarzan was a far cry from Edgar Rice Burroughs' well-educated jungle lord, it became the template for most screen interpretations of the character for over two decades. Even so, former Olympic swimming champ Johnny Weissmuller and contractee Maureen O'Sullivan, were so popular as Tarzan and Jane -- they made six films together -- that, over three-quarters of a century after the release of this film, they still remain the two actors most associated with the roles. During his reign as the Ape Man between 1932 and 1948, Weissmuller would star in twelve Tarzan films, before relinquishing his loincloth to Lex Barker. The same year he began another career trek as "Jungle Jim" in series of programmers for producer Sam Katzman, that would last through 16 feature films from 1948 and 1955 and 26 television episodes. Ein Blonder Traum (1932)
Scene from the 1932's film „Ein Blonder Traum („A Blonde's Dream" / „Reve blonde" / „Sogno Biondo") starring Willy Fritsch, Lilian Harvey and Willi Forst. While the actors are sitting on the roof of the old Marstall in the middle of Berlin you get some impressions on how Berlin looked like before the whole area was destroyed later on. For example you can see the top of the famous castle which was destroyed by the communist regime even after WW2. The film was a huge success at that time. When it premiered September 1932 in Berlin, police had to close the roads to the film theatre because thousands of people wanted to see the actors arriving. The two songs performed, "Irgendwo auf der Welt" and "Wir zahlen keine Miete mehr", have been written by Werner Richard Heymann. The film was directed by Paul Martin.

Blaze Starr in a high quality film from the 1950's. Burlesque Strippere Strip
Blaze Starr in a nice film from the 1950's. Ah the good old days... When woman looked good no matter what they were wearing... Or not wearing. Legendary stripper and burlesque dancer Blaze Starr was born Fannie Belle Fleming in 1932 in Wilsondale, West Virginia. Her parents were Lora Evans and Goodlow Mullins. Blaze left home and moved to Washington, DC, while only in her mid-teens. She was discovered by her first manager Red Snyder working as either a hat-check girl or at a doughnut shop. Starr got her stage name from Snyder, but, nonetheless, still left him after he attempted to rape her. With her fiery red hair, shapely and voluptuous 38D-24-37 figure, and sultry, energetic and captivating stage presence (her stage routines included a comedic exploding coach gag and having a large trained black panther untie a ribbon on her costume, which made it fall to the floor), Blaze became a major headliner at the Two O'Clock Club in Baltimore, Maryland, and earned the nicknames "Miss Spontaneous Combustion" and "The Hottest Blaze in Burlesque." Starr made $1500 dollars per week at the peak of her stripping career. Among the men's magazines she appeared in at the height of her fame are "Sizzle," "Ace," "Scamp," "Sir!," "Best for Men," "Rogue," and "Modern Man." Moreover, Starr posed for pictures for noted fetish photographer Irving Klaw. Blaze achieved her greatest notoriety in the late 1950s as the paramour for Louisiana state governor Earl Kemp Long (Earl Long); this affair ...

Paulette and Chaplin pair beautiful
Paulette and Chaplin pair beautiful
Paulette Goddard, Charlie Chaplin's third wife, was the only one of his wives to become a successful movie star in her own right. Paulette Goddard was born Pauline Marion Goddard Levy in Whitestone Landing, New York, on June 3, 1911—although some records say that the year was 1910, and one account places it as 1905. Regardless, she was a beautiful child, and began to model for local department stores before debuting with Florenz Ziegfeld's Follies at the age of 13 in 1924. For three years she performed as the girl on the crescent moon in Ziegfeld's Follies, and eventually married wealthy Broadway writer Edgar James in 1927. The marriage did not last, however, and they were divorced in 1931. Paulette Goddard Paulette Goddard Photo Enlargement Buy at AllPosters.com Paulette Goddard had begun appearing in films, with bit parts in Berth Marks (1929) with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, The Girl Habit (1931), The Mouthpiece (1932) and Young Ironsides (1932). One of her bigger roles was appearing as a blond "Goldwyn Girl" in the Busby Berkeley chorus of the Eddie Cantor musical The Kid from Spain (1932), as well as in Roman Scandals(1933) (alongside Lucille Ball, in her first role). In 1932, in addition to her searching for parts, she made the acquaintance of Charlie Chaplin. They quickly became 'an item,' and Chaplin cast her as The Gamine in his famous film, Modern Times (released in 1936). The couple were also secretly married about ship in 1936, while vacationing in the ...

This is set of scenes from the classic film She Done Him Wrong starring Mae West and Cary Grant. Here she performs a number for the crowd and then invites Grant up to her room(hint hint!). During that scene you can see that they both fall for each other and the attraction between them is undeniable! Mae West is another woman in the classic film genre that I really like. She simply oozes confidence and poise that no other woman during the period can can touch. This fim is part of Universal's Cinema Classics lineup and is available on DVD! Laurel and Hardy Visit Tynemouth (1932) - extract
Shot by an enthusiastic amateur on 16mm film, this silent newsreel extract provides a valuable glimpse of the rapturous welcome legendary comedians Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy received when they visited Britain in 1932. Though Hardy hailed from the States, Ulverston-born Laurel was a local lad: he went to school in Tynemouth (where this film was made outside the town's Grand Hotel). With Stan unaware how popular the team had become in Britain, his low-key homecoming - with Ollie tagging along to try some Scottish golf courses - became a full-scale promotional tour, the duo mobbed by hordes of adoring fans wherever they went. Cesca from SCARFACE (1932)
Cesca from SCARFACE (1932)
Mash-up-Mise En Scene. . . .by: Matthew Edwards / Super Edington (Film Instructor) (SCARFACE) 1932 Directed by Howard Hawks Produced by Howard Hughes This is a scene that I have extracted from the film and reproduced as a CULTURAL RELIC and HOMAGE, a perfect example of the timelessness and beauty of TRUE artistic expression and the MISE EN SCENE of HOWARD HAWKS. This is intended to be an educational and exhibitionary device for my cinema studies students. The video is intended to be a memorial to this great film (Unofficially) THIS IS NOT COMMERCE--IT IS FILM HISTORY! Hawkss shallow depth of field and the warmth of that 70 year old film stock and those long lenses create an overall texture that is mesmerizing to watch on a big screen. This scene in particular is highly recognized by Cineastes all over the world as one of the more famous sequences in the film. For one, it features a very charming yet sublime performance from, IMHO, one of the most underratted performers from that era of filmmaking: ANN DVORAK. The Studio system had total control of everything back then, and if you got on the wrong side of their contractual agreements your career could be shelved, and that is basically what happened to Ann Dvoraks career. Surely, it is the cinema of HOWARD HAWKS that we remember as being action packed and freshly innovative with his cinematic use of violence, but, this sequence contrasts all of that with its subtle charm and beauty as well as the sublimity of the music and ...

The snowman attacks them and wreaks havoc until it's destroyed by the Northern Lights. Directed and Animated By Ted Eshbaugh (February 5, 1906 - July 4, 1969) NOTE This controversial animated short was originally produced for Van Beuren Studios and released by RKO Radio Pictures on July 05, 1932. It was then edited and reproduced by Film Laboratories of Canada, Invincible in 1933. You are watching the original and unedited 1932 version. The story takes place in the frozen north. Our hero the Eskimo is bedding down for the winter. His pet, a seal that barks like a dog, beds down too. In the spring, everybody gets up. We find that the seal/dog has had pups! All is well and happy. All the cute little animals frolic and play in the snow, building a snowman. Suddenly, the mood changes. The snowman comes to life and starts attacking everybody! He eats a fish in a rather gruesome display, gains a big deep voice, and wrecks a church. It looks like there is no stopping him, but our hero the Eskimo knows what to do. Betty Boop 1932 Cab Calloway "Minnie the Moocher"
Betty Boop 1932 Cab Calloway "Minnie the Moocher"
Cab Calloway appears with Betty Boop in the Talkartoon Minnie the Moocher, Betty's 17th cartoon appearance. This is justifiably one of the most famous cartoons ever made. The cartoon begins with actual film footage of Cab Calloway dancing a slow and sensuous dance in front of his orchestra, the former Missourians, while they perform the Prohibition Blues. This is the oldest known film footage of Cab. His attire is uncharacteristically casual, and we never get a good look at his face. We suspect that Cab wasn't aware that the Fleischers were going to use the actual footage. The haunting and beautiful instrumental, Prohibition Blues, is an old Missourians piece that was recorded by them in early 1930, right before Cab took over as leader of their band. This cartoon has the only recording of the piece with Cab Calloway. By early 1932, when this cartoon was produced, the group had been renamed "Cab Calloway and His Orchestra," but in this film, they are still wearing their old Missourians uniforms. The story commences in Betty Boop's home, where we find her weeping bitterly at the kitchen table while her father berates her for not eating. Her mother stands by, glowering at both of them with her arms folded across her chest. Betty is perhaps plumper than usual in this cartoon, and her eyes are somewhat smaller. Her parents are German Jews; the father's name is Otto, but the mother's name is never mentioned. This would have been a familiar sort of family for a great many ...

Congorilla - 1932 (excerpt)
Congorilla - 1932 (excerpt)
The first sound movie made entirely in Africa, Congorilla chronicles the Johnson's 3rd trip between 1930 and 1931. Premiering in 1932, the movie permitted audiences to hear what they had only been able to see during the Johnson's earlier work. In the movie, Martin and Osa revisit familiar territory in Kenya and Tanzania before moving on to Uganda and teh Congo basin. Along the way they film thousands of flamingoes at Lake Nakuru, migrating wildebeest and zebra in the Serengeti, and charging rhino in the Northern Frontier District of Kenya. Filming from a small boat on the Nile in Uganda, the Johnsons and their film crew recorded exciting encounters with large crocodiles and hippos. The latter part of the film is devoted to the seven months they spent in the Ituri Forest with the Mbuti peoples. They capture village life despite the high humidity which caused batteries to corrode and mildew to form on camera cases. This film is available on dvd for sale and footage is available for licensing from www.SafariMuseum.com.
