Before It's Too Late - Mini Marsupials | Storyteller Media
Australia is famous for its wonderful wildlife. Kangaroos, koalas, emus, and crocodiles. But its wildlife is much more diverse than many people realise. While we are all familiar with the icons, many people fail to be aware of the amazing array of Australia's Mini Marsupials, the numbat, the chuditch, the woyly and the honey possum to name a few. But these tiny marsupials are under threat of extinction from land degradation and from feral animals. Australia has the worse record of native flora and fauna extinction in the world. 95% or arid zone animals have disappeared. The reason uncontrolled land clearing. Many conservationists point accusing fingers at Brazil and Indonesia for their so called reckless attitude to forest degradation but Australia is up there with the worst of them, uncontrolled land clearing is as bad if not worse than anywhere else in the world. Add to this the incredible threat to endangered species of introduced predators like the fox and cat and the result is mass destruction of native animals. It is estimated that some 36 billion small animals fall victim to feral cats and foxes every year. But there are those who are acting to save these Mini Marsupials before it's too late. In this programme we see the beautiful but fragile honey possum, the only possum to live solely on the nectar . For the first time, using infra red cameras we se what these mini marsupials get up to when they think no one is watching. We see the woyly that can eat plants that ...

The Howling 3 (trailer)
This was the last of the eye-gougingly bad "Howling" sequels ever to receive any form of official theatrical distribution. Australian werewolf commune supermodel hippy chick escapes to pursue big city B-movie horror acting career and all hell breaks loose (in a somewhat lame PG-13 kind of way). The director of "Pterodactyl Woman from Beverly Hills" and that previous craptastic "Howling" franchise classic "Howling 2: Your Sister Is A Werewolf" is at the helm here. Is "The Howling 3" the perfect storm of shitty movies? Watch the trailer and you be the decider.

Hug You Like Koalas
Download song: http://simonpanrucker.bandcamp.com/track/hug-you-like-koalas
IMPORTANT!
Koalas can find it very stressful and exhausting to be handled by humans, so if you want a hug you should wait for the koala to make the first move. It's just simple etiquette.
More facts about koalas:
1. Koalas have a very low metabolic rate which means they have to conserve energy by sleeping for around 20 hours a day.
2. Koalas are not bears, they are marsupials of course.
3. The best Youtube comment I found while looking for koala videos was this: 'I WANT TO FEED A KOALA A SANDWICH END OF DISCUSSION'
(Koalas only really eat eucalyptus leaves so it probably wouldn't want that nasty old sandwich, but it's a nice image.)
I used a lot of videos from Youtube and Vimeo to make this. By way of crediting them, here is a list of videos used in the order they appear:

NATURE | Kangaroo Mob | Metropolitan Marsupials | PBS
See the full episode at video.pbs.org There are thousands of kangaroos living in the hills around Canberra. And as night falls, they start moving into the suburbs. Meet the mob of street-smart kangaroos moving into Australia's capital city and the ecologists who follow their every move. Over the course of one drought-stricken year, follow mob leader, Black Spot, and kangaroo mother, Madge, with her two young joeys — mischievous Sonny and tiny pouch-bound Alice. This is a look at what happens when human development encroaches on wildlife habitat and two very different species are forced to co-exist. "Kangaroo Mob" premieres on PBS Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 8/7c (check local listings) and is part of the 30th season of the Peabody and Emmy award-winning series produced by Thirteen in association with WNET.ORG for PBS. Major support provided by Canon USA Inc. www.pbs.org

Thylacoleo carnifex the marsupial lion
Thylacoleo (meaning 'pouch lion') is an extinct genus of carnivorous marsupials that lived in Australia from the late Pliocene to the late Pleistocene (2 million to 46 thousand years ago). Some of these "marsupial lions" were the largest mammalian predators in Australia of that time, with Thylacoleo carnifex approaching the weight of a small lion. Pound for pound, Thylacoleo carnifex had the strongest bite of any mammal species living or extinct; a 100 kg (220 lb) T. carnifex had a bite comparable to that of a 250 kg (550 lb) African Lion[1] and is thought to have hunted large animals such as Diprotodon spp. and giant kangaroos. It also had extremely strong forelimbs, with retractable catlike claws, a trait previously unseen in marsupials. Thylacoleo also possessed enormous hooded claws set on large semi-opposable thumbs, which were used to capture and disembowel prey. The long muscular tail was similar to that of a kangaroo. Specialized tail bones called chevrons allowed the animal to tripod itself, and freed the front legs for slashing and grasping. [2] Its strong forelimbs, retracting claws and incredibly powerful jaws mean that it may have been possible for Thylacoleo to climb trees and perhaps to carry carcasses to keep the kill for itself (similar to the leopard today). Due to its unique predatory morphology, scientists repeatedly claim Thylacoleo to be the most specialized mammalian carnivore of all time. [3] Thylacoleo was 71 cm (28 in) at the shoulder and about ...
