KETC | Living St. Louis | Bob Heil
From KETC, LIVING ST. LOUIS Producer Ruth Ezell visits with Bob Heil, a respected and innovative creator of sound systems. Heil got his start playing Hammond organs as a young teen, and then took lessons from the legendary Stan Khan, the organist at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. From there he opened up Ye Old Music Shop in Marissa, Illinois, and became the premier name for sound systems, creating them for bands such as The Who, Grateful Dead, The Eagles, Dolly Parton and Jerry Lee Lewis. Heil later closed the music shot to focus on creating microphones for ham radio operators, but become involved with the music industry once again when Joe Walsh—a friend of Heils and ham radio user—discovered Heils ham radio mic provided better sound than any other mic hed tried on stage. In June 2006 he became the only manufacturer to be have a display in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

Bob Heil and Charlie Daniels
Charlie Daniels recently celebrated fifty years---FIFTY YEARS---of making music with a new live concert DVD package titled, "Preachin', Prayin', Singin' with Charlie Daniels & Friends: Live from Nashville" This year the Grammy award-winning performer outfitted his band with a complete Heil Sound microphone package. Virtually anything on stage that needs a mic gets a Heil. A total of 23 Heil mics, including PR 35s for all of the vocals, PR 40s for kick and bass guitar, PR 22s on snare and high hat, Handi-Mics on the Leslie and PR 30s on toms, overheads, and guitar are being utilized. Bob Workman is Charlie Daniels FOH mixer and was one of the early proponents of switching the band over to Heil microphones. "Changing our entire mic package over to Bob Heil's products was the easiest call I have ever made. I compared our then existing microphones to the Heils and the improvements were stunning. The Heil mics offer incredible rejection of off-axis sound. When I push the fader up on Charlie's vocal I don't get wedge bleed, or his guitar rig blazing behind him or the drum kit affecting things. The result is a clean, more accurate mix regardless of the room, console or rig." The Charlie Daniels Band includes Taz DiGregorio (keyboards), Charlie Hayward (bass), Bruce Brown (lead guitar), Chris Wormer (guitar), and Pat McDonald (drums). With upwards of 100 shows scheduled for 2009, including an appearance at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio CA, getting Charlie to slow down long ...

Trying new audio recording technique direct from Icom IC-756ProII to PC's audio Line Input RX antenna is a 4' tuned loop indoors Unfortunately, I did not select the 640 x 480 resolution checkbox on the webcam setup so the actual encoding was 320 x 240 and then YouTube encoding brings that back up to 640 x 480 but a little out-of-focus. Bob Heil Dayton 2009 Part 1
Bob Heil Dayton 2009 Part 1
The first half of the 60's Bob was designing, building and playing various theater pipe organ installations in the Holiday Inn North restaurant in St Louis. After playing 8 years, 6 nights a week, he decided to enter the retail music industry opening one of America's first 'pro' music shops in the small Southern Illinois hometown of Marissa. Because of the success of his music shop he was thrust into the rock market. He pioneered the live sound industry with clients such as the Grateful Dead, the Who, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Jeff Beck and scores of major touring acts of the 60's and 70's. It was Bob's unique approach to audio that created some of the most innovative products still in use today. The Heil Talk Box, made famous by Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton and Bon Jovi, as well as perfecting the first electronic crossover were some of Bob's great products. Heil Sound was selected by those sound companies still out there in the trenches today, to receive the first ever 'Pioneer Award' at the 1995 Audio Engineering Society convention in San Francisco.
