Emperor Charles V
The Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, King Carlos I of Spain aka Carlos Quinto, House of Hapsburg, was the first to have an empire upon which it was said the sun never set. His dominions stretched from the New World, across Spain, the Low Countries, Germany and parts of Italy and north Africa. Considered a champion of Catholic Christendom he was constantly at war with the French in Italy, the Turks in the Mediterranean and Protestant rebels in Germany. Probably his most famous victory was the battle of Pavia in which he defeated the French and captured King Francis I.

Holy Roman Emperor - a fascinating blend of past and present
He made Prague the imperial capital, refusing even at the insistence of Petrarch to move to Rome, and he was a great builder in that city, which bears his name in so many spots: Charles University, Charles Bridge, and Charles Square. Prague Castle and much of the cathedral of Saint Vitus, by Peter Parler, were completed under his patronage. Finally, it is from the reign of Charles that dates the first flowering of manuscript painting in Prague. In the present Czech Republic, he is still regarded as Pater patriae (father of the country). Today an event revives more than his memory.

M2TW: The Historical Battle of Pavia 1525
The Army of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V consisting of Spanish & Holy Roman Imperial troops & mercenaries against the Kingdom of France in the Battle of Pavia 24th Feb 1525 during the Italian war 1521-26. The King of France King Francis I is personally in Command of the French army while the Spanish-Imperial forces are Commanded by Charles de Lannoy, Antonio de Leyva, Georg Frundsberg. As the battle raged on the King of France Francis I was captured alive & the Spanish-Imperial Forces were Victorious. However, in this battle the French King got killed & most of my Spanish allies were routed & their Commander had fallen, so as u can see it didn't go perfect like the real :( I tried to destroy the 2nd French Cannon emplacement but they retreated before i could reach them & so Victory was mine :) The Holy Roman Empire is one of my fav factions in the game, also France & Spain but the HRE is strong all over :) Enjoy!!!

On the eve of his death in 1558, his realm, which has been described as one in which the sun never sets, spanned almost 4 million square kilometers. As the heir of four of Europe's leading dynasties -- the Habsburgs of Austria, the Valois of Burgundy, the Trastamara of Castile, and the House of Aragon -- Charles V , ruled over extensive domains in Central, Western, and Southern Europe, as well as the various Castilian (Spanish) colonies in the Americas. He was the son of Philip I of Castile (Philip the Handsome) and Juana of Castile (Joan the Mad of Castile). His maternal grandparents were Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, whose marriage had first united their territories into what is now modern Spain, and whose daughter Catherine of Aragon was Queen of England and first wife of Henry VIII. The Austrian Hapsburgs
The Holy Roman and Austrian Emperors of the House of Hapsburg from Kaiser Ferdinand I to the present-day heirs to the Hapsburg throne, Archduke Otto and his son Archduke Charles. Ferdinand I inherited the Austrian half of the Hapsburg domain from his brother the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V who was also King Carlos I of Spain. The Holy Roman Empire was abolished during the Napoleonic Wars with the last Emperor-Elect, Francis II, becoming Emperor Francis I of Austria. Later the Empire of Austria became the Dual-Monarchy of Austria-Hungary. This venerable monarchy finally came to an end in 1918 following the defeat of World War I. The last monarch was the Blessed Emperor Charles I (who was beaitified by Pope John Paul II) who tried on two occasions to regain his throne as King of Hungary but was unsuccessful. Since then the Hapsburgs have continued to work for some king of political body in the tradition of the idea of a "United States of Greater Austria" which was floated before the First World War. King François I of France
François I (12 September 1494 -- 31 March 1547) was King of France from 1515 until his death. During his reign, huge cultural changes took place in France and he has been called France's original Renaissance monarch. His permanent rivalry with the Emperor Charles V for hegemony in Europe was the origin of a long and ruinous military conflict that gave rise to the Protestant revolution. Francis was an ally of Suleiman the Magnificent, with whom he formed the Franco-Ottoman alliance. His great rivals were King Henry VIII of England and Holy Roman Emperor Charles V.
