AMISOM captures town near Kismayu
www.ntv.co.ke KDF soldiers supported by Somali government forces have captured Janaa Cabdalla town, a stronghold of Al Shabaab, following a three-day operation. Janaa Cabdalla is located 50 kilometres to the west of the port city of Kismayo in the Lower Jubba region. The operation, which was conducted by the Kenyan contingent of AMISOM, also recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition. Two AMISOM troops and five SNA soldiers sustained minor injuries and have been evacuated to Dobley for medical attention. Its capture signifies a milestone in the AMISOM offensive to liberate the Indian Ocean port city. Kismayo, Somalia's third largest city is considered the hub of Al-Shabaab. The strategic town has seen some of the most intensified battles since the deployment of the Kenyan troops in mid-October 2011. Kenyan naval warships and helicopter gunships are shelling Al-Shabaab's positions in Kismayo. The capture came as the UN humanitarian official for Somalia discussed with Kenyan officials how to protect civilians as the military operations to take Kismayo intensify.

AMISOM launch offensive
www.ntvuganda.co.ug Until the end of the month of May 2012, AMISOM forces were battling remnants of Al-shabaab fighters in Afgooye - a town located 30 kilometers away from the capital of Mogadishu in Somalia. AMISOM launched the operation named free shabelle on 22 May - commanders saying they were careful not to destroy property, harm or injure locals. The Shabelle region is home to Afgooye town whose population is the region of 400000 people - most of whom are refugees. On 25th May AMISOM forces crossed Shabelle river and entered Afgooye after a four day non-stop battle in a sand filled jungle of more than 20 kilometers. NTV reporter Frank Walusimbi followed the AMISOM forces on this tough operation that has had more than 60 Al-shabaab fighters killed.

Crash Analysis: Disaster will not deter AMISOM
www.ntvuganda.co.ug The government of Uganda could seek compensation from the United Nations over three of its attack helicopters that crashed on Sunday in the Mount Kenya area. The African Union Mission to Somalia says it will continue its operations against the Alshabab despite the loss and called for more support. The AU's stance is backed by one local political analyst who says the incident would not derail the mission.

Somali TFG and AMISOM Crush Shabaab
Brave Somalis, Ugandans, and Burundians have fought to defeat al-Shabaab and the foreign jihadists in Mogadishu. Uganda and Burundi troops stepped up to help their Somali brothers when nobody else would; the history books will show AMISOM troops and the TFG forces were heroes. Most of Shabaab has left the city like a critically wounded dog with a tail between their legs and a long trail of piss behind them. The Somali people are tired of war, tired of famine, and tired of the cruel and barbaric way Shabaab has ruled. May the Somali people be one step closer to peace!
