New Hampshire

New Hampshire (US ⁱ/nuːˈhæmpʃər/) is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts to the south, Vermont to the west, Maine and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Canadian province of Quebec to the north. New Hampshire is the 5th smallest by land area and the 9th least populous of the 50 United States.

In January 1776 it became the first of the British North American colonies to establish a government independent of the Kingdom of Great Britain's authority and it was the first to establish its own state constitution. Six months later, it became one of the original 13 states that founded the United States of America, and in June 1788 it was the ninth state to ratify the Constitution, bringing that document into effect.

Concord is the state capital, while Manchester is the largest city in the state. It has no general sales tax, nor is personal income (other than interest and dividends) taxed at either the state or local level. It is known for the New Hampshire primary, the first primary in the U.S. presidential election cycle. Its license plates carry the state motto, "Live Free or Die". The motto comes from a statement written by the Revolutionary War general John Stark, hero of the Battle of Bennington. The state's nickname, "The Granite State", refers to its extensive granite formations and quarries.

2001 New Hampshire 300

The 2001 New Hampshire 300 was a NASCAR Winston Cup race held at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The race was originally scheduled for September 16, but was postponed to November 23 due to the September 11 attacks of that year. New Hampshire was the season finale as a result.

Summary

NASCAR did not want to cancel the event, but there were no scheduled off weeks from the September 16 date, so NASCAR's only option was November 23–25, the Thanksgiving weekend. The postponement would be a challenge for Goodyear, as they were not expecting a New Hampshire race in November. Goodyear brought a tire they hoped would suit the cold conditions. NBC carried the broadcast live except for the Pacific Coast, which was on tape delay to allow the third hour of Today.

The race saw Robby Gordon, driving the #31 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, pick up his first career win. The race was also known to be the last race to have 42 cars or less until the 2014 Quaker State 400, with both races having 42 cars. 14% of this race was held under caution flag while the average green flag run was considered to be 32 laps.

New Hampshire (collection)

New Hampshire is a 1923 Pulitzer Prize-winning volume of poems written by Robert Frost. The book included several of Frost's most well-known poems, including "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening", "Nothing Gold Can Stay" and "Fire and Ice". Illustrations for the collection were provided by Frost's friend, woodcut artist J. J. Lankes.

John Lynch (New Hampshire)

John H. Lynch (born November 25, 1952) is an American businessman and politician who served as the 80th Governor of the U.S. State of New Hampshire. Lynch was first elected Governor in 2004, defeating first-term incumbent Governor Craig Benson - the first time an incumbent Governor was denied a second term in 78 years. Lynch won re-election in landslide victories in 2006 and 2008, and comfortably won a historic fourth term in 2010. Lynch is the most popular governor in New Hampshire history and, while in office, consistently ranked among the nation's most popular governors.

Education, career, and personal life

Lynch was born in Waltham, Massachusetts, the fifth of William and Margaret Lynch's six children. Lynch earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1974, a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School, and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center.

During his business career, Lynch served as Director of Admissions at Harvard Business School and President of The Lynch Group, a business consulting firm in Manchester, New Hampshire. Lynch served as CEO of Knoll Inc., a national furniture manufacturer, where he transformed the company previously losing $50 million a year, to making a profits of nearly $240 million yearly. Under his leadership, Knoll created new jobs, gave factory workers annual bonuses, established a scholarship program for the children of employees, created retirement plans for employees who didn’t have any, and gave workers stock in the company. Before announcing his run for Governor, Lynch was serving as Chairman of the University System of New Hampshire Board of Trustees.

John Lynch (New South Wales politician)

John Patrick Lynch (6 February 1875 – 2 June 1944) was an Australian politician.

He was born near Parkes to miner William Sullivan Lynch and Mary Seymour. He attended local public schools and became a schoolteacher, working at Parkes from 1895 to 1897 and at various country schools thereafter. In 1907 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Ashburnham. He served until his defeat in 1913. Subsequently he became a commercial agent and hotel manager. On 3 June 1922 he married Florence Staub. Lynch died at St Leonards in 1944.

John Lynch (Pennsylvania)

John Lynch (November 1, 1843 – August 17, 1910) was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

John Lynch was born in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1856, he moved to Pennsylvania with his parents, who settled in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools and Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pennsylvania. He worked on a farm and in the coal mines and taught school. He studied law, was admitted to the bar November 1, 1868, and commenced practice in Wilkes-Barre.

Lynch was elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth Congress. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1888. He resumed the practice of law in Wilkes-Barre, and served as judge of the court of common pleas from 1892 to 1910. He died in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in 1910. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wilkes-Barre.

Team 7

Lynch was once a top agent for International Operations, until his sterling record attracted the attention of his superiors, and he was recruited to lead Team 7, a team of the finest and best operatives that all the various government forces (CIA, NSA, FBI, Army, Marines, etc.) could offer. Lynch was codenamed "Topkick". While he was nominally the leader, he had difficulty getting the respect of his teammates, due in part to his unquestioning following of orders and his strict adherence to the rules. He naively believed the government would always act with the best intentions, even after the group were deliberately exposed to radiation in an experiment to see if they could survive.
