College Fjord
Recorded June 22, 2007. College Fjord is a fjord located in the northern sector of Prince William Sound in the US state of Alaska. The fjord contains five tidewater glaciers (glaciers that terminate in water), five large valley glaciers, and dozens of smaller glaciers, most named after renowned East Coast colleges. College Fjord was discovered in 1899 during the Harriman Expedition, at which time the glaciers were named. This short video covers my brief visit to the area on the Sapphire Princess. Norwegian Fjords
Geologically, a fjord is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides or cliffs, created in a valley carved by glacial activityFjords are formed when a glacier cuts a U-shaped valley by abrasion of the surrounding bedrock. Many such valleys were formed during the recent ice age. Glacial melting is accompanied by rebound of Earth's crust as the ice load and eroded sediment is removed (also called isostasy or glacial rebound). In some cases this rebound is faster than sea level rise. Most fjords are deeper than the adjacent sea; Sognefjord, Norway, reaches as much as 1300 m (4265 ft) below sea level. Fjords generally have a sill or rise at their mouth caused by the previous glacier's terminal moraine, in many cases causing extreme currents and large saltwater rapids (see skookumchuck). Saltstraumen in Norway is often described as the world's strongest tidal current. These characteristics distinguish fjords from rias (eg the Bay of Kotor), which are drowned valleys flooded by the rising sea, creating a fjordCoral reefs As late as 2000, some coral reefs were discovered along the bottoms of the Norwegian fjords. These reefs were found in fjords from the north of Norway to the south. The marine life on the reefs is believed to be one of the most important reasons why the Norwegian coastline is such a generous fishing ground. Since this discovery is fairly new, little research has been done. The reefs are host to thousands of lifeforms such as plankton, coral, anemones, fish, several ...

The Tracy Arm Fjord on an Alaska Cruise
DestinationsInFlorida.com or call 877-918-8941 for help planning your Alaskan cruise. Our video of the Tracy Arm Fjord during our Alaskan cruise simply does not do justice to this amazingly beautiful part of Alaska. Until recently, only kayaks were allowed into the Tracy Arm. Now, cruise ships somehow navigate the narrow fjord to the Sawyer Glacier. The weather was so good on the day we went that the ship got closer to the glacier than it had all season! It was amazing. Watch for icebergs, seals, waterfalls, mountain striations from the former glacier and especially note the color of the water. The change from black Pacific water to this teal green water was nearly instantaneous! The fjord is part of the 30 mile long Tracy Arm - Fords Terror Wilderness region, located about 60 miles southeast of Juneau. The fjord is truly one of the most dramatic locations in Alaska, or in all of the world, for that matter. The sheer, glacier-carved walls are often shrouded in mist. Glacial calving in Tracy Arm can often be quite spectacular, as huge chunks of ice break off and plunge into the frigid waters below. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see any calving on our cruise aboard the Celebrity Infinity. Literally hundreds of waterfalls cascade down the sides of the fjord, creating an almost otherworldly atmosphere. It's something you really have to see to believe, it's just that unique and positively breathtaking to behold. Famed naturalist John Muir compared the glacial-carved sheer ...

Crusing Oslo Fjord, Vision of the Seas
Vision of the Seas is cruising Oslo Fjord a very early morning in June 2011. The Oslo Fjord is an inlet in the south-east of Norway. The 'fjord' is in total 107 km long and stretching from Skagerak Strait in South to Oslo in North. The Oslo fjord is a bay and not a fjord in the geological sense - in Norwegian the term "fjord" can refer to a wide range of waterways. The bay is divided into the outer Oslo fjord which is up to 50 km wide and a very narrow inner fjord, Drøbaksundet. which is 17 km long from the small town of Drøbak and up to Oslo. When we enter Drøbysund we are passing Oscarsborg Fortress at port side, a coastal fortress in the Oslofjord, The fortress is situated on two small islets.

Legend - From the Fjords (1979)
In 1979, obscure metal band 'Legend' made an album called 'From the Fjords'. The theme was, as you might guess, viking mythology. This is the closing track of that very album. Enjoy pillaging. Major thanks to the band for creating this music, and also to those who made the art shown here in the video. The second half of the video shows scenes of the Scottish new-year feast called Hogmanay, where old traditions are relived one day each year.

I have been filming the Skyliners on an incredible exploration into the world of free flight.
Tancrède, Julien, Seb and Antoine are pioneers in ‘highlining’ - a vertiginous combination of climbing, slackline and tightrope walking.
We travelled from our home in Chamonix to our training ground in the Verdon gorge, testing the limits for our ultimate goal...
We rigged highlines on the skyscrapers of Paris, and finally came to the spectacular cliffs and fjords of Norway.
Months of training led the Skyliners team to attempt their dream of complete freedom... the freedom of flight !

This was filmed during August 2011. This is my interpretation of the fjord landscape in western Norway. Having spent countless days here, I really enjoy even the smallest parts of this landscape. Like hidden streams or dwarfish waterfalls outside of the beaten track that offer a great deal of solitude.
This movie was editing "on the road" and uploaded over 3G network from southeast asia. I have decided to spend the next two years creating a 60min blu-ray/dvd. As a landscape photographer, I have visited some really amazing places over the years, and now I will be revisiting many of them for this movie. It is a full-on project, and as a result I have now sold my apartment, print-studio, car and other belongings.
I thought Beethoven´s Moonlight Sonata would be appropriate, and asked my friend Marika Takeuchi if she could record it in a studio. She made a fantastic version which I love very much. Thank you!
