Germany 1-2 Czech Republic 2004
Referee: Terje Hauge (NOR) -- Stadium: José Alvalade, Lisbon (POR) Germany hopes ended by perfect Czechs Germany 1-2 Czech Republic Goals in each half from Marek Heinz and Milan Baroš knocked Germany out of UEFA EURO 2004. Germany crashed out of UEFA EURO 2004 after losing to an under-strength Czech Republic side. The Czechs, who maintained their 100% record, came from behind with goals from Marek Heinz and Milan Baroš. Michael Ballack opened the scoring on 21 minutes to steady the nerves of a Germany side needing victory to be sure of a place in the last eight. Yet Heinz equalised with a superb free-kick and when Baroš added a second after sustained second-half pressure from Germany, the hopes of Rudi Völler's side had ended. Having already secured top spot in Group D, the Czech Republic rested several players with Sunday's quarter-final against Denmark in mind. In total there were nine changes from the team that beat the Netherlands, with Heinz and Vratislav Lokvenc paired in attack, and midfield trio Stepán Vachoušek, Jaroslav Plašil and Roman Týce all handed the chance to shine. Germany made just two changes, with Bastian Schweinsteiger coming in, while Jens Nowotny returned as a sweeper behind defenders Christian Wörns and Arne Friedrich. Despite needing to win to be sure of a place in the last eight, Germany started with Kevin Kuranyi as a lone striker. The game was scrappy in the opening stages, with both sides giving possession away cheaply. René Bolf had to be ...

Russia 3-3 Czech Republic 1996
Referee: Anders Frisk (SWE) -- Stadium: Anfield, Liverpool (ENG) Late Šmicer strike sends Czechs through Russia 3-3 Czech Republic The Czech Republic surrendered a two-goal lead to be on the brink of elimination before Vladimír Šmicer's intervention two minutes from time. Substitute Vladimír Šmicer struck two minutes from time to cap an extraordinary game and send the Czech Republic through to the quarter-finals by the skin of their teeth. Goals from Jan Suchopárek and Pavel Kuka sent Dušan Uhrin's team racing into a two-goal lead at Anfield, but Russia -- still not mathematically out of contention for second spot in Group C -- launched a superb fightback. Aleksandr Mostovoi and Omari Tetradze drew them level soon after the interval before Vladimir Beschastnykh put them in front with five minutes left. With Italy drawing 0-0 against Germany, it was set to be the Azzurri who went through alongside Berti Vogts' men; then came Šmicer's dramatic intervention. That such a late rescue act was required looked hugely unlikely at half-time. Suchoparek eased Czech nerves just five minutes in when he headed in a corner, with Kuka pouncing on Stanislav Cherchesov's hesitation to double their advantage 19 minutes. Their lead could have been insurmountable had they not also been twice denied by the woodwork prior to Russia's most unexpected comeback. Mostovoi's header and Tetradze's close-range shot made it 2-2 before the Czechs were again rebuffed by the frame of Cherchesov's goal ...

Czech Republic National Anthem English lyrics
Kde domov můj? (Czech pronunciation in English: Where is my home?) was written by the composer František Škroup and the playwright Josef Kajetán Tyl as a part of the incidental music to the comedy Fidlovačka aneb Žádný hněv a žádná rvačka (Fidlovačka, or No Anger and No Brawl). It was performed for the first time by Karel Strakatý in the Stavovské divadlo (Estates Theatre) in Prague on December 21, 1834. The original song consists of two strophes (see below). Although JK Tyl is said to have considered leaving the song out of the play, not convinced of its quality, it soon became very popular among Czechs and was accepted as an informal anthem of a nation willing to revive its identity within the Habsburg Empire. Soon after Czechoslovakia was formed in 1918, the first strophe of the song became the Czech part of the national anthem, followed by the first strophe of the Slovak song Nad Tatrou sa blýska. Because of language diversity of First republic official translations to Hungarian and German language were made. The split of Czechoslovakia in 1992 divided also the Czechoslovak anthem. While Slovaks have extended their anthem adding a second strophe, the Czech Republic's national anthem has been legally adopted unextended, in its single-strophe version. A small motif used by Škroup was written previously by WA Mozart in Concertanto Symphony KV 297 b

Video of Czech president Klaus 'stealing' pen during Chile ceremony
Two cheeky Czechs have launched a campaign aimed at gathering writing implements for the country's President Václav Klaus. In doing so, they express their support to the leader, who has recently found himself in an embarrassing situation. Vaclav Klaus was captured on video stealing a protocol pen during his official meeting with his Chilean counterpart Sebastián Piñera on Tuesday. The story caused a stir in the Czech Republic. Czech television broadcast the video with red circles and arrows highlighting the pen. A spokesman for Klaus on Tuesday dismissed the media storm caused by the video, saying the pen was "a common pen with a logo of the state or office, which presidents and members of their delegation receive during state visits". In fact, the pens are encrusted with semi-precious Chilean lapiz lazuili stones. However, a Pinera spokeswoman said the president's guests were free to take them.

Czech Republic: Praha - Prague - Prag - Praag
This is a partly remake of my former video of Prague (2007), because in some parts the graphical quality of that video was not so good. In no other city I visited, I felt such a strong interweaving of the past in the present. Some additional information: 00:06 The Church of Our Lady before Tyn was founded in 1385. The two spires are not symmetrical. This is characteristic of the gothic architecture of that time, it represents the masculine and feminine side of the world. 00:20 The Jewish Quarter Josefov. The name Josefov refers to the emperor Josef II, who improved the living conditions for the Jewish in Prague. The Jewish Quarter contains the remains of Pragues former Jewish ghetto. 00:40 The Rudolfinum (opened in 1885) is a music auditorium and one of the most important neo-renaissance buildings in Prague. In front of it is the Golden muse Statue. It is situated on the bank of the river Vltava. Currently it is the seat of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. 00:55 The Gothic Powder Tower lies next to the Municipal House The construction of the 65m tall Powder Tower begun in 1475. Together with the Old Town Bridge Tower, the Powder Tower is the only existing part of the former Prague Old Town fortification. It used to form one of the 13 entrances to the Old Town. The tower got its present name in the 17th century when it was used to store gunpowder. 01:08 The Municipal House is the most spectacular art nouveau building in Prague. OFFF Barcelona 2011 Main Titles
Still shocked and excited from last night, it's an honor for us to show you this absolutely MINDBLOWING TITLES made for OFFF by PostPanic.
Thank you so much to PostPanic, and specially to Mischa Rozema, Ania Markham and Si Scott, simply epic!!!
Written by Mischa Rozema and British graphic designer, Si Scott, the opening titles reflect their dark thoughts on a possible future. Directed by Mischa and shot on location in Prague, the film guides the viewer through a grim scenario embedded with the names of artists appearing at this year’s OFFF festival. The live action was brought back to Amsterdam for post, primarily carried out by PostPanic’s in-house team of artists but also with the additional help of freelancers and partner companies that we have enjoyed strong creative relationships with over the years. It’s really fair to say that this was a labour of love by a passionate crew of people.
Says Ania Markham, Executive Producer at PostPanic:
“The images created by the crew of people working on the titles has been unbelievable, with nationalities represented including Dutch, Czech, English, American, Polish, German, Swedish and Belgian. It’s been a great opportunity for all of us to work together on a non-commercial project we’re passionate about and we’re so proud of the combined effort and final result.”
DIRECTORS NOTES (Mischa Rozema)
This project started out as a collaboration between myself and Si Scott. Right from the start, we decided that it should be the darkest thing we could make. I think it just felt natural to the both of us; if we had to nail the future, it would not be a nice place.
This idea evolved into a clash of times. Inspired by an idea from the late Arthur C. Clarke. He wrote about different historical civilizations meeting in a single point in time. So what happens when civilizations meet? The 'weaker' one gets eaten by the 'stronger'. You only have to look at history to see the destructive power of civilizations.
So the main underlying idea is: what would happen if the future lands on our doorstep today? Let's take mankind, add perhaps 100 years and then let them show up on our doorstep today. The future would pretty much devour the present. Probably in a matter of, let's say, 7 days… So that's what we're looking at. But every ending also means a new beginning, hence Year Zero.
There's all kinds of hidden messages in there. Like the virus eating away at reality, buildings and people, even at the viewers brain. It's behaving off course much like a computer virus. And the network of wires represents the future of social networking. I just made it physical and let it 'catch' the city and it's people like a net. All these ideas just serve as inspiration for us to create a future that worked for this concept. They're not meant to be deciphered by the audience. It's still meant to be just a title sequence and not an actual movie.
Now what makes a good title sequence? Personally, I think it's something that gets you in the mood, warms you up for what you're about to experience, be it a film, tv series or in our case, the OFFF festival. We decided to treat the OFFF festival as a feature film experience. So all we had to do was get the viewer into the right state of mind. Without, of course, being too narrative led. The best title sequences out there are nothing but a random collection of images/scenes that don't tell a lot if you watch them on their own. But edit them together and a new context is created. A context that matters, a feeling that gets the viewer ready for the main event, in our case, the festival.
To get started, the next thing we did was make a collection of ideas that would scare me and Si. So, anything drawn from our youth, right through to stuff that's inspired us over the years as well as seemingly random compositions that trigger the imagination of the viewer. For example, when we show you the aesthetics of a car explosion, it's carefully constructed. Why a car and not something else? Because an exploding car brings extra content to an otherwise simple aesthetic display of violence. A car doesn't explode by itself so instantly the brain tries to formulate the background behind it. It adds an either political or criminal edge to the violence. To me it felt appropriate because of the sense of protest and rebellion the shot has. And maybe the biggest question; was there someone in the car and if so, who was it? For me, every idea should provoke these kind of questions; from a girl in a prom dress holding a rocket launcher to a riot cop standing in the kitchen. All scenes have a pre and post story to them. In no time you're actually trying to connect these seemingly random scenes and boom; you've just created your own strange context. You now have a feeling, a taste and lots of questions probably. Questions that normally would be answered by watching the actual movie. But since there's no actual movie here we'll leave stranded with, hopefully,

England 2-1 Czech Republic - U19 Goals and full highlights - 28-10-12
Young Lions roll on at Orient Tuesday, 28 February, 2012 Goals from Harry Kane and Pat Bamford seal win over Czechs. England U19s put on a suitable audition for Head Coach Noel Blake on Tuesday night, maintaining their unbeaten run this season and seeing off the challenge of Czech Republic in their final match before they tackle the Elite Qualifying Round in May. Whilst the scoreline wasn't as comfortable as it perhaps could've been, Blake and his staff will be pleased with the performance from the Young Lions, who controlled possession throughout and created a number of clear chances. Blake had told his players before the game that with the Qualifiers on the horizon, this was a chance to prove their worth for a place in the squad and it was clear they were all eyeing up a spot for those three games against Switzerland, Montenegro and Slovenia, which England will host later this year. In the end, it was left to goals from striker Harry Kane and his second-half replacement Pat Bamford to secure victory but there were opportunities spurned for others across the 90 minutes and that will be one area at which Blake will be looking for improvement. England had the best of the early efforts, when Luke Garbutt's wicked free-kick from the left picked out Harry Kane at the far post but his header bounced into the ground and over the bar in the 13th minute. Kane wasn't to be denied a second time though, as the Spurs man opened the scoring shortly after the quarter-hour mark. For a ...

Czech - USA 4:0 IIHF 2011 Jagr´s Hat Trick
Jaromir Jagr gave hockey fans back in the United States a reminder of his offensive skills Wednesday. The 39-year-old former NHL star scored a hat trick to lead the defending champion Czech Republic to a 4-0 win over the Americans in the quarterfinals of the ice hockey world championship. The Czechs will meet Sweden or Germany in the semifinals. "We didn't play that well as in the previous games. We had a little bit of luck," said Jagr, whose team has a perfect record at the tournament, in great part due to goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. "Ondrej was great and had several great saves in the first period. We looked a bit sleepy," Pavelec stopped 29 shots for the shutout. "It's disappointing," US captain Mark Stuart said. "We had a good team and I think if we played our best game we could beat anybody in this tournament." Jagr beat goalie Ty Conklin on a breakaway to put the Czechs ahead 1-0 with 1:15 remaining in the opening period. "We knew the first goal is going to be huge," Stuart said. "We started really well, we had a few chances, I think we hit the post. After they got their second goal we set back a little bit and that hurt us." The Czechs killed a two-man advantage before Jagr added his second goal in the middle period on a power play with a slap shot from the right circle. Blake Wheeler and James van Riemsdyk were in the penalty box at the time. US coach Scott Gordon called the goal "the major turning point." "That was a big swing right there," he said. Czechs Join Britain In Rejecting EU Treaty
David Cameron is no longer isolated in Europe after the Czech Republic joined Britain in refusing to sign a controversial EU treaty handing more powers to Brussels. Some 25 out of the 27 member countries have signed the new fiscal pact which is aimed at stopping overspending by eurozone countries. Leaders hope the agreement will reassure investors they will never repeat the mistakes that led to the current sovereign debt crisis. At the last EU summit in December, Mr Cameron caused fury by vetoing a treaty designed to shore up the eurozone. The UK was the only country to walk away from the so-called fiscal compact, after the Prime Minister was rebuffed when he sought protection for Britain's financial services industry. It was a decision which tested the strength of the coalition and brought accusations the UK had pushed itself to the periphery of the EU, its largest trading partner, amid the eurozone crisis. Mr Cameron warned any changes the other members made under their alternative fiscal pact - excluding Britain - could not use EU institutions such as the Commission and EU court because they could only carry out policies applying to all 27. At the latest EU talks, he did not try to push his case against using institutions. But he warned he would take action to defend British national interests in Europe if the new fiscal deal between other member states threatens UK powers. He said: "We will only take action if our national interests are threatened - and I made clear ...
