Artas, Bethlehem
Artas (Arabic: أرطاس) is a Palestinian village located four kilometers southwest of Bethlehem in the Bethlehem Governorate in the central West Bank. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the town had a population of 3,663 in 2007.
Etymology
According to le Strange, the name Urtas is probably a corruption of Hortus, which has the same meaning as Firdus (Paradise), while Edward Henry Palmer thought it was a personal name.
Geography
Artas and the surrounding area is characterized by the diversity of landscapes, flora and fauna due to its location at a meeting place of ecosystems. From a spring below the village an aqueduct used to carry water to Birket el Hummam by Jebel el Fureidis.
History
pre-Ottoman period
Nasir Khusraw wrote that: "a couple of leagues from Jerusalem is a place where there are four villages, and there is here a spring of water, with numerous gardens and orchards, and it is called Faradis (or the Paradises), on account of the beauty of the spot."

Bethlehem (Arabic: بيت لحم 
Bayt Laḥm ; "House of Meat", Bēt Laḥm; Hebrew: בֵּית לֶחֶם Bēṯ Leḥem, Modern: Bet Leḥem [bet ˈleχem], lit. "House of Bread"; Ancient Greek: Βηθλεέμ [bɛːtʰle.ém]; Latin: Bethleem) is a Palestinian city located in the central West Bank, Palestine, about 10 kilometers south of Jerusalem. Its population is approximately 25,000 people. It is the capital of the Bethlehem Governorate. The economy is primarily tourist-driven.
The earliest known mention of the city was in the Amarna correspondence of 1350-1330 BCE during its habitation by the Canaanites. The Hebrew Bible, which says that the city of Bethlehem was built by Rehoboam, identifies it as the city David was from and where he was crowned as the king of Israel. The New Testament identifies Bethlehem as the birthplace of Jesus. Bethlehem was destroyed by the Emperor Hadrian during the second-century Bar Kokhba revolt; its rebuilding was promoted by Empress Helena, mother of Constantine the Great, who commissioned the building of its great Church of the Nativity in 327 CE. The church was badly damaged by the Samaritans, who sacked it during a revolt in 529, but was rebuilt a century later by Emperor Justinian I.

Bethlehem (The Original Sins album)
Bethlehem is the eighth studio album by garage rock band The Original Sins, released in 1996 through Bar/None Records. The album shows a change in tone for the band, focusing much more on pop music and psychedelic rock than the energetic garage punk fury from previous releases. The album has been is considered as the band's best, with some describing it as "the band's greatest achievement" and a "great leap-forward".

Location
1. Bethlehem is located 6 miles (9 km.) south of Jerusalem.
2. In Bible times, Bethlehem was a farming area with grain fields, and sheep and goats grazed the hillsides. Amazingly, little has changed over the past 3,000 years.
3. It’s on the edge of the Judean Desert that lies to the southeast.
4. Bethlehem is in the West Bank but is very safe. Thousands visit its Christian sites each month with no issues.
Historical Background
1. Bethlehem was a Canaanite village before the conquest of the Israelites in around 1406 BC.
2. It means ‘House of Bread.” Maybe this is so because many wheat and barley fields were in this area.

Taken from the eternal flame in the grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the scouts carry the same flame into the whole world. Since almost 40 years this light connects us to the birth of Jesus which the Christians are about to celebrate. “Glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on earth.”, the angels sang at Bethlehem.
This light is also a strong sign for the longing for peace in Israel, the Palestinian territories and all places of war and violence in the world.
The light arrives at the Chapel for Europe and is welcomed with a peace prayer. From here it will be distributed to all communities and individuals who come to join into this worldwide network of hope for peace.

Location
1. Bethlehem is located 6 miles (9 km.) south of Jerusalem.
2. In Bible times, Bethlehem was a farming area with grain fields, and sheep and goats grazed the hillsides. Amazingly, little has changed over the past 3,000 years.
3. It’s on the edge of the Judean Desert that lies to the southeast.
4. Bethlehem is in the West Bank but is very safe. Thousands visit its Christian sites each month with no issues.

Peace prayer and distribution of the light.
Taken from the eternal flame in the grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the scouts carry the same flame into the whole world. Since almost 40 years this light connects us to the birth of Jesus which the Christians are about to celebrate. “Glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on earth.”, the angels sang at Bethlehem.
This light is also a strong sign for the longing for peace in Israel, the Palestinian territories and all places of war and violence in the world.
The light arrives at the Chapel for Europe and is welcomed with a peace prayer. From here it will be distributed to all communities and individuals who come to join into this worldwide network of hope for peace.

Artas, Bethlehem
Artas (Arabic: أرطاس) is a Palestinian village located four kilometers southwest of Bethlehem in the Bethlehem Governorate in the central West Bank. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the town had a population of 3,663 in 2007.
Etymology
According to le Strange, the name Urtas is probably a corruption of Hortus, which has the same meaning as Firdus (Paradise), while Edward Henry Palmer thought it was a personal name.
Geography
Artas and the surrounding area is characterized by the diversity of landscapes, flora and fauna due to its location at a meeting place of ecosystems. From a spring below the village an aqueduct used to carry water to Birket el Hummam by Jebel el Fureidis.
History
pre-Ottoman period
Nasir Khusraw wrote that: "a couple of leagues from Jerusalem is a place where there are four villages, and there is here a spring of water, with numerous gardens and orchards, and it is called Faradis (or the Paradises), on account of the beauty of the spot."
