Husbands (1970) trailer
(I do not own the rights to this video. The rights either belong to Columbia Pictures or Faces Music, Inc.) Written and Directed by John Cassavetes Starring John Cassavetes, Peter Falk and Ben Gazzara Another trailer inexplicably missing from YouTube. And one for a film I often consider my favorite from my favorite director. Obviously, Columbia might have had a bit of a problem advertising a film so exhausting on multiple levels from the non-ending cracks to the terror of the three stars facing their adulthood that they try to advertise it as goofball shtick. The film does have a lot of humor (and apparently an early cut was pure comedy), but that would only be barely scratching the surface of such an amazing film. Even Cassavetes own label of the film being a comedy seems to be done with a touch of irony (which is odd considering how irony free his films are). Still a fun trailer and a product of its time and interesting for historical purposes.

Scene from John Cassavetes film "Husbands"
Peter Falk & Delores Delmar. Cassavetes said of this scene: "It's terrific for Peter to try to pick up that woman. It's right that he would pick her up, because she is the safest woman in the place. It was very easy for him to talk to her. Peter was all right, because he was really comfortable. He was more comfortable in that scene than in a lot of other scenes, because it was right. The situation was right. He would go over and talk to that woman. She's a terrific woman. You see that woman sitting there and you've got to have her in the scene. So I took that lady and Peter and I wrote a scene [on the spot] and gave it to him. The secretary wrote it out and gave it to Peter and to the lady, and she looked at it. Peter was all right, but how could she catch up? She was just sitting there. She was out of place. She didn't know what to expect. All the camera crew and everybody else was looking at this woman. What was going to happen? She had a few lines, and she had to, in a sense, be romantic. Sometimes it's utter and total cruelty to elicit something pretty out of somebody. You have to be cruel to somebody sometimes, but it is only cruel in some kind of a social bullshit way. I mean, we're all there to get something good. The woman was tight. She didn't know what was expected of her, and it was too late for her to find out in the course of the filming. I would say terrible things to her, just awful things. She would fight them off like a lady. She reached a point where she ...

COLUMBO STAR PETER FALK DIES AT 83-MAY HE REST IN PEACE
PETER FALK DIES AT 83/Falk died Thursday in his Beverly Hills home, according to a statement released Friday by family friend Larry Larson. In a court document filed in December 2008, Falk's daughter Catherine Falk said he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Search: More on Peter Falk's career The gravelly voiced Falk was best known for his portrayal of the trench coat wearing detective on the long-running TV series "Columbo." Also on TheWrap: Lewis Rushed to Hospital Before Australia Show He received four Emmy awards for his starring role on the series, and his portrayal of the seemingly absent-minded investigator made Falk a television icon. The series ran from 1971-78 on NBC and launched several later television movies that aired on ABC. He also was a key member of iconoclastic filmmaker John Cassavetes' regular ensemble, starring in such independent film classics as "A Woman Under the Influence" (1974) and "Husbands" (1970). In his collaborations with Cassavetes' Falk often portrayed hard drinking, blue-collar figures, whose brutish exteriors mask bruised egos and surprisingly tender sides.
