The Shayar (Xayar) County (Chinese: 沙雅县; pinyin: Shāyǎ Xiàn; Uyghur: شايار ناھىيىسى, ULY: Shayar Nahiyisi, UPNY: Xayar Nah̡iyisi?) is a county in the East Turkistan Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region and is under the administration of the Aqsu Prefecture. It contains an area of 31,868 km2. According to the 2004 census it has a population of 210,000. It is the site of a prison of unknown size which houses political prisoners such as the famous human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng 高智晟.
