1981 Mainframe Computer Animation. Coventry University
This is my computer animated short from 1981. You could do this with Flash these days in an afternoon... but back then... It involved working out the X and Y coordinates to start and end points ... then I had to punch loads of data cards with the relevant binary code and then submit cards to computer dept , who then (having waited a week) output the relevant start, inbetween and end points as a series of dot matrix prints.. these I then made negative films of, back lit with a cyan gel, put on a rostrum camera and then did 25 frames a second stop frame animation on 16mm film. So much work !!! This was light years ahead of Tron!!! The music was done on a Wasp synthesizer and slowed to half speed on a Revox A77 tape deck and bounced to add reverb.

Mainframe Computers Commercial 2
This is the second of two television commercials we produced and aired circa 2005. They aired on KENS 5 and FOX 29. The only calls we got from these were from people wanting jobs. All of the animation was done with Macromedia Flash and the "music" with K3B. Mainframe Computers' 5th year anniversary is July 1, 2009.

DOT MATRIX REVOLUTION
DOT MATRIX REVOLUTION v BOW BEFORE THE CLOUD
Following an early morning status check of their vintage electronic equipment, two computer engineers "throw down" in an awkward dance-off that innacurately echoes the development of information technolgy and the internet from 1951 up to the present day. The film features a catchy jingle by pop impresario Jim Guthrie.
*: The point at which a given species cedes planetary control to robots or machines.
Production notes: This film was produced by Superbrothers in 2006 before the establishment of Superbrothers Inc., but it was not until after incorporation that the film was eventually released. Critical reception of the film was positive, although most felt that the aim of the film was less lofty than its acclaimed predecessor THE CHILDREN OF THE CLONE, and that its creators had gone soft, already drifting from their revolutionary roots.
Interestingly, the film caught the attention of a number of internet web logs, leading to criticism by the notoriously tech savvy internet web log users, who responded harshly to home viewings of the film with comments like these: "Lame. Stupid. Fail. The depiction of Computer Systems of each period are so innacurate as to be totally misleading." or worse, "Lame on SOOOO many levels. Not even deinterlaced properly, which is amazing considering it's trying to look 8-bit. I was wondering how this crap got voted up, then saw, of course, Mr.BabyMan's fan army voted it up".

Why the lem was not guided from mainframe computers
This video shows that the LEM could not be guided from the mainframe computers on reath and could only be guided by the LEM's computer; it also shows that this computer was working in an absurd way, far from the optimized way it should have. Like for all my future videos, I have used no soundtrack, because it seems that EMI is blocking my videos in US whatever the soundtrack I use (even when it comes from an old vinyl). Using no soundtrack is the only way I have to protect myself from this form of censorship.

1964 IBM System 360 Mainframe Computer Chip - Solid Logic Technology SLT
see more at ChipsEtc.com - "Computer Chip, Transistor & Semiconductor Memorabilia" In 1964, IBM's Solid Logic Technology (SLT) made its first commercial application in IBM's System 360 computer. Being somewhat uncertain of the reliability and availability of the then new monolithic integrated circuits of the time, IBM chose instead to design custom hybrid integrated circuits using discrete flip chip mounted glass encapsulated transistors and diodes with silk screened resistors on a ceramic substrate, then either encapsulated in plastic or covered with a metal lid. Several of these were then mounted on a small multi-layer printed circuit board to make a "Solid Logic Technology" (SLT) module. Each SLT module had a socket on one edge that plugged into pins on the computer's back plane.
