Johann Strauss II - The Blue Danube Waltz
Title : Johann Strauss II , The Blue Danube Waltz Date : 1867 From Wikipedia,The Blue Danube is the common English title of An der schönen blauen Donau op. 314 (On the Beautiful Blue Danube), a waltz by Johann Strauss II, composed in 1867. Originally performed 9 February 1867 at a concert of the Wiener Männergesangsverein (Vienna Men's Choral Association), it has been one of the most consistently popular pieces of music in the classical repertoire. Its initial performance was only a mild success, however, and Strauss is reputed to have said "The devil take the waltz, my only regret is for the coda -- I wish that had been a success!" The waltz originally had an accompanying song text written by Josef Weyl. Strauss adapted it into a purely orchestral version for the World's Fair in Paris that same year, and it became a great success in this form. The instrumental version is by far the most commonly performed today. An alternate text by Franz von Gernerth, Donau so blau (Danube so blue), is also used on occasion. The sentimental Viennese connotations of the piece have made it into a sort of unofficial Austrian national anthem. It is a traditional encore piece at the annual Vienna New Year's Concert. The first few bars are also the interval signal of Osterreich Rundfunk's overseas programs. It is reported by composer Norman Lloyd in his "Golden Encyclopedia of Music" that when asked by Frau Strauss for an autograph, the composer Johannes Brahms autographed Mrs. Strauss's fan ...

The Rebirth Of The Danube Delta - Romania
Sep 1997 The grandiose schemes of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu turned the Danube River Delta into a desert-like dust bowl. In the 1980s he decided to transform Europe's richest land into a breadbasket to feed Eastern Europe. Instead, his system of dykes, dams and artificial lakes wreaked massive environmental destruction. By the time of Ceausescu's demise in 1989, 40000 ha of the Delta had been destroyed. With the disappearance of the fish, birds and rare mammals went the traditional lifestyle of the Lipovenes, ethnic Ukrainians who'd fled Russia, and who relied on the wildlife of the Delta - especially the giant sturgeon. Today, weed-filled fields still remain useless for farming, while fish collecting stations and salt mines lie disused. However, the Delta is making a remarkable recovery, thanks to an innovative World Bank Programme. Birds and plants are returning and although the sturgeon haven't recovered, the Lipovenes believe they too now have a future on the Delta. Produced by ABC Australia Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

The Bloom Danube: Sony FS100 Smooth slow motion test
Making the greatest drink on Earth with some aptly named Bloom gin and glass set given to me as a present by the lovely Gert Kracht.
Test film using the super slow motion feature of the Sony FS100. It takes 3 second clips and turn them into 12 seconds at 60i at just over SD and up rezzes them. I then brought them in as 30p and conformed to 24p giving me effectively 150 FPS.
The camera does do full HD 60 FPS with I have not shot with yet but will in the next couple of days. It will be of a much much higher quality image than this mode. This was done just as a quick bit of fun.
Oh...and yes I did drink it afterwards and yes it was strong and very large and yes I was slightly drunk afterwards!
Although a test need not be throwaway. Hence I put effort into this. It plays on my love of composition, of symmetry and oh of gin!
Lens was a 100mm Zeiss Macro F2 Nikon Mount.

Industrial spill in Hungary
On the 4th of October 2010, a tailing reservoir collapsed in the Ajkai Timföldgyár alumina plant in Ajka, western Hungary. About a million cubic metres of liquid waste drained through the broken northwestern corner of the dam. The mud formed a 1–2 m wave that covered about 40 square kilometres of land. The village Kolontár and the town of Devecser were flooded, killing 8 and leaving several people missing, while dozens of residents were injured and needed to be hospitalized for chemical burns. The ruptured and weakened wall of the reservoir is momentarily in danger of collapsing entirely, which could release an additional 500,000 cubic metres of sludge. Despite counter measures of the Hungarian authorities, the spill reached the Danube river on 7 October 2010.
The movie shows processed satellite images of the extent of the sludge spill.

SKYS
SKYS is the culmination of about two years of setting up a tripod and a camera, pointing it at the sky and waiting for something interesting to happen. I've seldom gone out with the express intention of shooting a timelapse but instead carry my trusty Canon 5DmkII and a tripod with me while on vacation, on jobs, bicycling or hiking around. I try to let the sky come to me and with good luck I've managed to capture a few. There's a bit of flicker, some dirt on the lens and maybe a jump or pop here or there but after four months of processing to remove such artifacts it's become time to move on and let it out into the world. I hope you enjoy it.

Anderson & Roe Piano Duet play "BLUE DANUBE FANTASY"
www.andersonroe.com | "A New Account of the Blue Danube Waltzes," composed and performed by the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo Camera work Estelle Choi, Yalin Chi, Greg Anderson, Elizabeth Roe Watch the outtakes in the video response section below! In composing this work, we sought to emphasize the emotions that hide beneath the surface of the typically restrained Viennese Waltz. Note: the narrative is not a representation of reality. Yes, we're really playing the piano, but no, we didn't actually meet over a lost mitten, and no, we're not actually romantic lovers. :-) Be sure to watch for: * The choreography of our hands. We wanted to show the similarity between four hands playing together on a piano and four feet on a dance floor. Be sure to listen for: * The musical combining of themes. At times, melodies are layered atop one another, most notably at the climax. Believe it or not, seven melodies from throughout the piece are being played simultaneously (7:49 - 8:10), a real compositional feat! The sheet music for this arrangement is for sale. Visit www.andersonroe.com to instantly purchase a PDF of the score! Or you can purchase the sheet music on amazon.com : www.amazon.com Both the piece and the video are featured on the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo's debut album, "Reimagine." Greg Anderson & Elizabeth Joy Roe showcase their unique approach to classical music and the piano duo genre in this adrenalized album, featuring breathtaking music, a hard-core performance of ...
