Municipal Development Program in West Bank and Gaza
www.worldbank.org - Municipalities are one of the oldest forms of governance in the West Bank and Gaza. They continue to serve as a main reference point for Palestinian citizens and to a population that overwhelmingly lives in urban areas. The World Bank has been working on strengthening Palestinian municipalities for over two decades, The Municipal Development Program encourages municipalities to better respond to citizens' needs, promotes accountability and transparency and supports innovation.

The EU helping to bring democracy, development and the rule of law to the Palestinian Authority
A few months after the Israeli military offensive in the Gaza Strip ended, the process of rebuilding Gaza has begun. On 2 March, the foreign ministers from more than 80 countries meet in Sharm el-Sheikh to decide how they will contribute to help end the humanitarian crisis and speed up the reconstruction. But the needs for development in Palestine do not stop in Gaza. The European Union is the biggest donor of financial assistance to the Palestinians. It sees Palestinian reconciliation, economic development and the development of a society based on the rule of law as key steps towards a truly functioning Palestinian society. The PEGASE programme is the new European mechanism for cooperation and economic aid for the Palestinian Authority. PEGASE was launched on 1 February 2008, and aims to provide support for the three-year Palestinian Reform and Development Plan, which was put forward by the Palestinian Authority. It focuses on four key sectors: governance, social development, economic and private sector development, and public infrastructure. ec.europa.eu 2 March 2009

The total Palestinian population worldwide is estimated to be between 10 to 11 million people, over half of whom are stateless, lacking citizenship in any country.[2] Palestinians are predominantly Sunni Muslims, though there is a significant Christian minority, whose presence in the Holy Land can be traced back to earliest days of the Eastern Orthodox Church. The Palestinian people as a whole are represented before the international community by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).[5] The Palestinian National Authority, created as a result of the Oslo Accords is an interim administrative body nominally responsible for governance in Palestinian population centers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. There are 4255120 Palestinians registered as refugees with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). This number includes the descendants of refugees from the 1948 war, but excludes those who have emigrated to areas outside of UNRWA's remit.[38] Based on these figures, almost half of all Palestinians are registered refugees. Who is behind Gaza rocket fire on Israel?
Who is behind Gaza rocket fire on Israel?: The lives of more than a million Israelis are plagued -- almost on a daily basis -- by rocket fire from Gaza. Just this month, in October, militants fired over 180 Katusha, Grads and Mortars on the communities of Southern Israel. No one was killed but a few foreign workers were injured and there was structural damage. So who is firing these rockets? As you'll see the answer is quite complicated. There's more than just one culprit -- it goes far beyond the Hamas terrorist group that controls the Gaza Strip. There's a power struggle going on in the Gaza Strip between Hamas and its main rival, the Iranian-backed terrorist group known as the PIJ or the Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The PIJ has taken responsibility for most of the rockets fired at Israel in the last few months...Hamas by and large has kept the cease-fire it agreed to. Many terror experts believe the PIJ is trying to goad Hamas into an unwanted war. IDC Terror Expert Dr. Jonathan Fine: "Hamas now does not want a full confrontation with Israel. Hamas cannot afford itself another operation Cast Lead. The people can't take it and they do not want to lose their grip on the regime. Unlike the Palestinian Islamic Jihad which is a 100% Iranian proxy that doesn't really have a local social economic agenda." Toppling Hamas may be their only local agenda by firing rockets, the PIJ can win the popularity of Gazans and at the same time avoid being held accountable for the terrible ...

The Children Of Gaza - Innocent Victims Of A Brutal War
thetruthisnow.com Song "When You're Looking For Love" Written & Sung By Kelvin Rush Download: www.cdbaby.com The Israeli - Palestinian conflict is the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. The conflict is wide-ranging, and the term is also used in reference to the earlier phases of the same conflict, between Jewish and Zionist yishuv and the Arab population living in Palestine under Ottoman or British rule. It forms part of the wider Arab--Israeli conflict. The remaining key issues are: mutual recognition, borders, security, water rights, control of Jerusalem, Israeli settlements, Palestinian freedom of movement and legalities concerning refugees. The violence resulting from the conflict has prompted international actions, as well as other security and human rights concerns, both within and between both sides, and internationally. In addition, the violence has curbed expansion of tourism in the region, which is full of historic and religious sites that are of interest to many people around the world. Many attempts have been made to broker a two-state solution, involving the creation of an independent Palestinian state alongside an independent Jewish state or next to the State of Israel (after Israel's establishment in 1948). As recently as 2007, a majority of both Israelis and Palestinians, according to a number of polls, prefer the two-state solution over any other solution as a means of resolving the conflict. Moreover, a considerable majority of the Jewish ...

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet
Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! - http://www.fightforthefuture.org/pipa
PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting "creativity". The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites-- they just have to convince a judge that the site is "dedicated to copyright infringement."
The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.
According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that's for a fix that won't work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.

scenes i recorded on my 7D while on a goodwill program in Japan in February of 2012.
We were able to walk around what remains of the Tsunami devastated township of Minamisanriku in the Tohoku region. I recorded audio from two ladies who shared with us firsthand their story of struggle and survival.
The Kanji at the start of the film reads "ichi-go ichi-e", which can be translated to "once in a lifetime". I learnt this phrase near the end of my trip by another member of the program. I think it captures the experience.
The editing was inspired by the visual storytelling style of vimeo hero Matty Brown.. With a mix of my own too i suppose..!

Black rhino given new home
The seventh black rhino population established by the WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project, was recently released after an epic 1500 kilometre trip across the country. 19 of the critically endangered animals were moved from the Eastern Cape to a new location in Limpopo province.
“This was possible because of the far-sightedness of the Eastern Cape Provincial government who were prepared to become partners in the project for the sake of black rhino conservation in South Africa,” said WWF’s project leader Dr Jacques Flamand. “The operation was difficult due to the number of animals and the long distances involved. But wildlife veterinarians, conservation managers and capture teams from WWF, Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency, SANParks and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife worked cooperatively to ensure the success of the translocation. We all learned from one another and were united in a common cause.”
“We are a young organisation and this is a great opportunity to be giving something back to the national conservation effort,” said Dave Balfour, conservation director of the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency. “We are excited about getting ourselves integrated into national conservation. A critical element of future conservation success will be the ability of agencies with a common interest to work together. This was a great example of that."
A relatively new capture technique was used to airlift some of the rhinos out of difficult or inaccessible areas by helicopter. This entails suspending the sleeping rhino by the ankles for a short trip through the air to awaiting vehicles. “Previously rhinos were either transported by lorry over very difficult tracks, or airlifted in a net. This new procedure is gentler on the darted rhino because it shortens the time it has to be kept asleep with drugs, the respiration is not as compromised as it can be in a net and it avoids the need for travel in a crate over terrible tracks,” explains Dr Flamand. “Another advantage is that rhinos can be more easily removed from dangerous situations, for example if they have fallen asleep in a donga or other difficult terrain after being darted. The helicopter translocations usually take less than ten minutes, and the animals suffer no ill effect. All of the veterinarians working on the translocation agreed that this was now the method of choice for the well-being of the animals.”
Security of rhinos is a major concern given the current poaching onslaught. Project partners receiving rhinos on their land are only chosen if their security systems are of a high standard. “Translocating rhinos always involves risk, but we cannot keep all our eggs in one basket. It is essential to manage black rhino populations for maximum growth as it is still a critically endangered species and this is what the project does by creating large new populations which we hope will breed quickly,” concludes Dr Flamand.
The WWF Black Rhino Range Expansion Project aims to increase the range and numbers of black rhino in South Africa and has created seven significant black rhino populations in eight years. Close to 120 black rhino have been translocated to date.

EU set to push Israel to lift Gaza blockade; Ashton previews talks
LUXEMBOURG -- EU officials said on Monday there were indications Israel would agree to open one of its border crossings to Gaza. On the sidelines of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, they said it was also likely Israel would drop its current, very restrictive list of goods permitted into the region, which has left the territory's 1.5 million Palestinians mired in poverty. Instead, there would be a short, agreed list of items banned because of Israeli security concerns, said the diplomats who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the talks. Meanwhile, Tony Blair will join EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg on Monday for talks on the prospects of easing the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip. The former prime minister and current Middle East envoy was invited to attend by EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, chairing the Luxembourg meeting. One of the EU officials said Israel appeared willing to agree to open either the Karni or the Karni and Kerem Shalom border crossings to large-scale importation of goods into Gaza. Europe's governments are considering how to help encourage the opening of border crossings into Gaza to resume access for everyday goods, as well as humanitarian aid supplies. Blair, who held talks with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu last Friday, has raised hopes that some relaxation of the blockade can be negotiated in the next few days. Walking into the Luxembourg meeting, Ashton also said that she wants to talk ...

My Hezbollah
But while Hamas political power has grown, the lives of many of Gaza residents has grown worse because of Israels lockdown on the area. The people of Gaza need to reject Hamas as a government if they want to be a part of the world at large. Actions have always had consequences, and the consequence of Gazans passively accepting Hamas as their government is what they are experiencing. They have a way out if they have the guts to take it. If they don't then they should stop complaining because they have accepted their fate through inaction. n't it Hamas' fault that it is making the lives of its citizens miserable? Haven't they roamed around Gaza executing opponents, closing internet cafes, imposing unwanted sharia law on Gazans? The palestinians voted for Hamas in its election. This is the consequence of their actions. Why donesn't the world hold Hamas and Gazans accountable for anything they do, say, endorse, or vote for? ""Hamas Members Deep Thoughts"" Israel has no right to exist We do not recognize Israel The Zionists occupy our land The Zionists vacate some of our land When the Zionists vacate some of our land of their own volition and on their own timetable, it is our victory Even though the Zionists vacate our land as per our demands and as our victory, we are going to fire at them We sometimes attack Israeli soldiers, but we mostly attack Israeli civilians from the vacated land The attacks, in the form of rockets, are fired daily from the vacated land which is now ...
