1915 Witte Iron Works 6 hp
This is my newest engine, which I've had about two months. It is a 1915 headless Witte Iron Works Co. 6 hp hit and miss. After a little work, some parts fixed, and help from my friend Pete, we got it going. After the first start up, the cam gear had to be removed and turned down a little. This is after reinstalling the cam gear and a little adjustment, I've managed to get it slowed down alot from the first time we got it started.

Hypocrites (1915) - Directed by Lois Weber
This is a scene from Lois Weber's Hypocrites (1915). "The most important and prolific of all American women directors of the silent era, Lois Weber entered films in 1907 at Gaumont, working alongside Alice Guy-Blaché. In the ensuing years, she and her husband Phillips Smalley acted in, directed, wrote, and edited films for Gaumont, Rex, and Universal. By 1914 Weber was a well-known director when she went to work for the Bosworth Company to make Hypocrites. Hypocrites is an amazingly complex film in both narrative and technique, following the parallel stories of an early Christian ascetic and a modern minister, with most actors in dual roles. Gabriel (Courtney Foote) is a medieval monk who devotes himself to completing a statue of "Truth," only to be murdered by a mob when his work turns out to be an image of a naked woman. The contemporary Gabriel is the pastor of a large urban congregation for whom religion is a matter of appearances, not beliefs. The hypocrisy of the congregation is exposed by a series of vignettes in which the Naked Truth, literally portrayed by a nude woman, reveals their appetites for money, sex, and power. Hypocrites was a shocking and controversial film whose release was held up for many months by the difficulty of distributing a film with full nudity. Weber's sincerity and reputation allowed her to use something that in the hands of a male director would have been considered scandalous and immoral. Widely admired at the time for extraordinary use ...

Unique Film of Pierre-Auguste Renoir Painting
This is unique footage of the great Impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919). He is seen at home, working on a canvas. I'm just astonished it exists - I never imagined I'd see film of him painting - you even get a sense of his method of applying the oil to the canvas.

Sergei Taneyev (1856-1915): Mozart - Fantasy in C minor K.396
Sergei Taneyev was a student of Tchaikowsky and Rubinstein. He was a brilliant pianist, premiering works by major composers of his time. He was later a teacher of composition and piano at the Moscow Conservatory, later becoming the director of the Conservatory. His pupils there included Glière, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff. This recording of Taneyev playing Mozart's C minor Fantasy was made onto an Edison cylinder in 1891 by the pioneering Russian entrepeneur Julius Block. It is just the first part of the work: the cylinder was too short to record the whole work.

Griffes - The Pleasure-Dome of Kubla-Khan (1915)
The Pleasure-Dome of Kubla-Khan (1915) A work for solo piano by American composer Charles Tomlinson Griffes (1884-1920). In his short life, Griffes evolved from a Wagnerite and protégé of Engelbert Humperdinck into a composer of remarkably distinctive, atmospheric, somewhat jazz-influenced piano music. "The Pleasure-Dome of Kubla-Khan" is, of course, based on the famous poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge "Kubla Khan." Ferruccio Busoni suggested to Griffes that he orchestrate this work as a symphonic poem, and in this form "The Pleasure-Dome of Kubla-Khan" brought Griffes considerable success and recognition. Pianist: Michael Lewin Kubla Khan (by Samuel Taylor Coleridge) In Xanadu did Kubla Khan A stately pleasure-dome decree: Where Alph, the sacred river, ran Through caverns measureless to man Down to a sunless sea. So twice five miles of fertile ground With walls and towers were girdled round: And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills, Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree; And here were forests ancient as the hills, Enfolding sunny spots of greenery. But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover! A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover! And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething, As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing, A mighty fountain momently was forced: Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst Huge fragments ...

Scaffold Safety Problems 1915
The dangers of working on scaffolds as been well known for almost 100 years. So it is sad that scaffold-related accidents still cause 4500 injuries and 50 deaths every year in construction in the United States alone. For information on current OSHA standards for scaffolds, go to www.osha.gov . The 1915 report mentioned in this clip, A treatise on safety engineering as applied to scaffolds, from the from the Travelers Insurance Company is in the public domain and available at www.archive.org . From its preface: The experience and observation of THE TRAVELERS INSURANCE COMPANY, extending over many years, indicates that the scaffold accidents by which men are killed or injured in the United States would be found to far exceed one a day, if they could all be included; and in view of this fact, and of the further fact, already noted, that scaffolding has practically no literature at the present time, it was thought best to devote one entire volume of THE TRAVELERS' series to it, as a contribution toward the establishment of a standard approved practice, in the interest of increased safety. Scaffolds are employed widely and by many different classes of workmen; but as they are erected for temporary use only, they seldom receive the thoughtful consideration that is given to permanent structures. They are badly designed and badly built, as a rule, and all too often the materials that are used in them are poor in quality and deficient in size and quantity. In fact there appears to ...

Landscapes: Volume 2 is the second of a three part series. Every frame of this video is a raw still from a Canon 5D2 DSLR and processed with Adobe software. In Volume 2 I again show off my beautiful home state of Arizona and I also made several trips to Utah. This video has some iconic landmarks that we have seen before. I felt that showing them again with motion controlled HDR and/or night timelapse would be a new way to see old landmarks.
Sales Pitch: I would now have to say that my timelapse skill set is very complete. The amount of knowledge I have gained through research, testing, and shooting experience is astounding. From moon phases to high dynamic range to motion control rigs to noise reduction, you would have a tough time finding someone with more overall knowledge of timelapse. If you need help with your next timelapse project you can reach me at 888-444-2739 or DustinF@crewwestinc.com
Most of the motion control for this video was done with the Stage Zero Dolly by Dynamic Perception. Once I got comfortable using the DP dolly I fell in love. I can set up shots now in much shorter times. More importantly for me, it is much smaller and much more portable than my homemade motion control. Without it, shots like the Delicate Arch shot in Utah would be nearly impossible due to the length of the hike. Buy the Stage Zero Dolly if you are looking for quality, inexpensive, easy-to-use motion control. http://dynamicperception.com/
In addition to the Stage Zero, I also used a three axis motion controlled CamTram. The CamTram is the most versatile dolly I have ever used. Its applications are only limited by your creativity. The CamTram has virtually no weight limit. I was able to achieve shots that dolly-in with the camera just over the ground because of the CamTram's ability to hold heavy counter weights.

I in this video I give alittle history on the rifle, I also show how the extractor is supposed to go in. This rifle has alittle age on it but after alittle work she is ready to work again. This is part 1 of 2, I do highly recommend Wisner's Inc for the parts, they fit perfect no resizing or anything, the staff was very helpful. There is strong language in this video.

Taneyev, Sergei (1856-1915) and Pabst, Paul (1854-1897): Arensky - Suite no.2: III
This recording shows Taneyev and Pabst playing the work of the third great Russian pianist of the Moscow Conservatory. The work is Arensky's second Suite for Two Pianos, op.23 (subtitled "Silhouettes"). This extract from the third movement (called "Polichinelle" and thought to have influenced Rachmaninoff's piano work of the same name) was made onto an Edison phonograph cylinder in 1892. There are hours and hours of these Russian cylinder recordings extant: go and buy the super 3CD set of transfers from Marston Records (www.marstonrecords.com)
