Dr Dee in Rehearsal
#ENODrDee Starring Damon Albarn About the production Following the success of Damon Albarn's Monkey: Journey to the West, ENO presents the London premiere of Albarn's visionary new opera Dr Dee. Although largely unknown today, Doctor Dee was the quintessential Renaissance Man. From astrology to alchemy and physics to philosophy, his thirst for knowledge was insatiable and, as a key advisor to Elizabeth I, he is credited with providing much of the intelligence which shaped 'the British Empire' established under her rule. Dee also dabbled in the occult and, ultimately, this fascination destroyed him. Conned by a deranged medium, Dee's career ended in disgrace and sexual scandal and he died discredited and penniless. This fascinating figure is bought to life by the extraordinary talents of composer and musician Damon Albarn, and director Rufus Norris. Albarn's music is an ingenious mix of pop vocals, much of which he will perform live on-stage, with contemporary orchestral music played on 16th-century period instruments. Rufus Norris's staging presents five centuries of English history and the three realms of earth, heaven and hell, with the virtuosic flare which has secured him a raft of awards and five-star reviews from London to Broadway. Reviews of Dr Dee's 2011 staging at the Manchester International Festival: 'Fresh, original and heartfelt... I was entranced' The Daily Telegraph 'A thoroughly beguiling spectacle... deserves a gold medal for sheer imagination and ...

RIP Alexander Mcqueen Biography: Alexander McQueen was born in London on March 17th 1969, the youngest of six children. He left school at the age of 16 and was offered an apprenticeship at the traditional Savile Row tailors Anderson and Shephard and then at neighbouring Gieves and Hawkes, both masters in the technical construction of clothing. From there he moved to the theatrical costumiers Angels and Bermans where he mastered 6 methods of pattern cutting from the melodramatic 16th Century to the razor sharp tailoring which has become a McQueen signature. Aged 20 he was employed by the designer Koji Tatsuno, who also had his roots in British tailoring. A year later McQueen travelled to Milan where he was employed as Romeo Gigli's design assistant. On his return to London, he completed a Masters degree in Fashion Design at Central Saint Martin's. He showed his MA collection in 1992, which was famously bought in its entirety by Isabella Blow. Alexander McQueen shows are known for their emotional power and raw energy, as well as the romantic but determinedly contemporary nature of the collections. Integral to the McQueen culture is the juxtaposition between contrasting elements: fragility and strength, tradition and modernity, fluidity and severity. An openly emotional and even ...

Inland Icon 2010 Is Here!
ANNUAL SINGING CONTEST IS BACK FOR THIRD YEAR! WBZB Entertainment has begun accepting online registrations for Inland ICON 2010 which kicks off January 16th in Chino Hills. Inland ICON (formerly "Inland Idol") is an annual solo vocal competition open to Southern CA youth ages 7-18 and produced by WBZB Entertainment. The contest ultimately gives 30 finalists a professional showcase opportunity with celebrity judges and a chance at a great prize package. This competition and concert event is back for its third straight year in the Inland Empire. The entire contest is comprised of 8 events over a 4 to 5-month period. Historically we have auditioned between 500-800 young singers from all over Southern CA before arriving at the 200-225 semifinalists who then compete for the 30 Finalists spots, explained Bruce Sampson, president of WBZB Entertainment. Based upon the growth of this event over the past two years, we expect to audition well over one thousand talented young performers for Inland ICON 2010. The two things we are most proud of are: creating an exciting and supportive atmosphere for the competition and giving kids a fantastic and professional platform to showcase their talent, said Dan Calvillo, technical director for WBZB. All the contestants get positive and constructive feedback from the qualifying judges and the 30 finalists get direct feedback from the panel of celebrity judges and industry veterans (which have included Grammy, Emmy and Tony award nominees.) Neil Young ~ Cortez The Killer w/ Crazy Horse *w/vIDeo* ~ Early Classic Performance @The Rio HD
"Psychedelic" video of sorts. Hard hitting early Rock version Neil and Crazy Horse were "ON" that night! " **Stunning Guitar & Vocals** (HD vIDeo) Cortez The Killer with Crazy Horse. ""Cortez the Killer" is a song by Neil Young from his 1975 album, Zuma. It was recorded with Young's band Crazy Horse and ranked #39 on Guitar World's 100 Greatest Guitar Solos and #321 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The song is about Hernán Cortés, a conquistador who conquered Mexico for Spain in the 16th century. "Cortez the Killer" also makes reference to the Aztec ruler Montezuma II and other events that occurred in the Spanish conquest of the New World. The lyrics start 3:23 into the song. First the words picture Cortés and his "galleons and guns" on their quest of the new world shores. There lived Montezuma, emperor of the Aztecs, inconceivably rich and full of wisdom, but in a civilization doomed despite its beauty and amazing achievements. By immense human toll of building, their huge and still existing pyramids had been erected, and are praised in the song. Instead of describing the battles of Cortez with the Aztecs, the lyric in the last verse suddenly jumps from third person narrative to first person, with a reference to a woman who is "living there / And she loves me to this day." This line almost certainly refers to Cortez's adoring wife, Dona Elizabeth, who was very supportive of his conquests and who opened several missions to support the ...
