Labour Party (UK) leadership election, 1935
The 1935 Labour Party leadership election took place on 26 November 1935 when Herbert Morrison and Arthur Greenwood challenged Clement Attlee, the incumbent party leader of only one month and one day. Attlee, previously the party's Deputy Leader, had been appointed as an interim leader the previous month when George Lansbury resigned and the general election was looming.
With the Labour Party now having three times as many MPs, both Morrison and Greenwood stood in the annual election for leader, feeling that Attlee's appointment had only been intended as an interim measure. Morrison had not been an MP at the time of the October appointment, whilst Greenwood had declined to offer himself as a candidate then because he was strongly associated with trade union leaders such as Ernest Bevin, who were widely regarded as the reasons for forcing Lansbury to resign, a move that the vast majority of Labour MPs opposed.

Labour Party (UK)
The Labour Party is a centre-left political party in the United Kingdom. Growing out of the trade union movement and socialist parties of the nineteenth century, the Labour Party has been described as a "broad church", encompassing a diversity of ideological trends from strongly socialist to moderate social democratic.
Founded in 1900, the Labour Party overtook the Liberal Party as the main opposition to the Conservative Party in the early 1920s, forming minority governments under Ramsay MacDonald in 1924 and from 1929 to 1931. Labour later served in the wartime coalition from 1940 to 1945, after which it formed a majority government under Clement Attlee. Labour was also in government from 1964 to 1970 under Harold Wilson and from 1974 to 1979, first under Wilson and then James Callaghan.
The Labour Party was last in government from 1997 to 2010 under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, beginning with a landslide majority of 179, reduced to 167 in 2001 and 66 in 2005. Having won 232 seats in the 2015 general election, the party is the Official Opposition in the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

Paying out millions of pounds a day to house illegal migrants in hotels is an "absolute disgrace", one of the Labour party's rising star MPs has told GB News.
Chris Curtis, elected MP for Milton Keynes North in July's general election, said that he found it "offensive" that public money was being used to keep illegal arrivals in hotels.
Earlier this week, it emerged that the Government was continuing to house asylum seekers in hotels despite Labour’s manifesto pledge to end the practice which costs £7million a day.
Curtis told Chopper’s political podcast this week regarding the previous administration that there was “a massive black hole that lurks in the economy” and he added that “the most offensive one is hotel bills”.
He said: "We're taking hard earned taxpayers money out of their pockets. It's an absolute disgrace. We need to be shutting down those hotel bills. But you can't do that with a ridiculous Rwanda gimmick."

Labour Party (UK) leadership election, 1935
The 1935 Labour Party leadership election took place on 26 November 1935 when Herbert Morrison and Arthur Greenwood challenged Clement Attlee, the incumbent party leader of only one month and one day. Attlee, previously the party's Deputy Leader, had been appointed as an interim leader the previous month when George Lansbury resigned and the general election was looming.
With the Labour Party now having three times as many MPs, both Morrison and Greenwood stood in the annual election for leader, feeling that Attlee's appointment had only been intended as an interim measure. Morrison had not been an MP at the time of the October appointment, whilst Greenwood had declined to offer himself as a candidate then because he was strongly associated with trade union leaders such as Ernest Bevin, who were widely regarded as the reasons for forcing Lansbury to resign, a move that the vast majority of Labour MPs opposed.
