Aadat (Urdu: عادت, literal English translation: "habit") is the debut album by Pakistani rock band, Jal released on 27 September 2004. Two of the songs from the album, also appeared on Atif Aslam's debut album "Jal Pari" after Atif Aslam left the band. This led to a dispute between Atif Aslam and Jal about who owned the rights to the songs.^[1]

Singles from the album were "Panchi", "Bikhra Hoon Main", "Aadat", "Woh Lamhein", "Ik Din Aayega", "Dil Harey", and "Teri Yaad". Five songs from the album received Top 40 airplay in Pakistan.

Sales of the album were such that it remained at the top of the Pakistani music charts for several weeks after its release. Sadaf Stereo Records, the record company which released the album in Pakistan announced that Aadat was the best-selling album of 2004. This was followed by the release of album in India by HOM Records, where it was highly successful too.

In 2006, Jal had created waves as the latest Pakistani band on the block, even as their album Aadat continued to climb the charts locally, and their 2005 track "Woh Lamhein" was a hit, even a year after its release. The title track "Aadat" was remade for the Bollywood movie Kalyug. Also "Woh Lamhein" song was later appeared in the Bollywood movie Zeher.

Muhammad Owais Raza Qadri (Urdu, Arabic: محمد اویس رضا قادری, born 8 July 1960 in Karachi) is a Pakistani who has travelled widely as a Naat Khawan (reciter of naat).^[1]

Beginning in 1983, he has released several albums, despite having taken no formal na'at classes. Qadri has traveled to England, Canada, Dubai, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, India, Hijaz-e-Muqaddas South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Malawi, Kenya, Mauritius, Botswana, Mapoto, Zambia, Suwaziland, Bangladesh, Syria etc. to recite Anasheed .In Vagra,(Dist-Bharuch,Gujarat) India,more than 500,000 people attended one of his performances,In Hyderabad, India, more than 200,000 people attended one of his performances, creating the record for most number of attandees in a Mehfil-e-Na'at. In the course of his performances, he advises young people to acquire adequate knowledge of Islam and to recite at least one ruku of the Qur'an and its Kanzul Iman translation.

Vijay Prakash (Kannada: ವಿಜಯ್ ಪ್ರಕಾಶ್), is a playback singer and film composer from Mysore who moved to Mumbai in 1996.^[1] He has sung in Hindi films such as Blue, Yuvvraaj, Swades, Kaal, Lakshya, Matrubhoomi, Tere Naam, Cheeni Kum, Raavan and Force. He has also performed in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies. He has also hosted the Kannada reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee Kannada and has also performed shows with Ustad Zakir Hussain.

He is also one of four singers credited for the song, "Jai Ho", which won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Song.^[2] Specifically, he sang the portion with the words "Jai Ho" that takes an extended high pitch at numerous junctures of the song.^[3] The Song also won the 52nd "Grammy Awards" in the category "Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television Or Other Visual Media. .^[4]

Prakash was born in Mysore, India to Carnatic singers L. Ramasesha and Lopa Mudra Prakash, and is himself trained in Carnatic music. He attended Sri Jayachamarajendra (SJC) Engineering College in Mysore.

Career[link]

After moving to Mumbai in 1996, he became a student of Suresh Wadkar.^[5] Prakash was a participant in the program Sa Re Ga Ma on Zee TV, hosted by Sonu Nigam. He made it to the mega-finals in 1999. Later he compered Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee Kannada. He got his first break in Hindi cinema with Karisma Kapoor starrer Baaz in 2002, and his first song for A. R. Rahman was in Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades followed by the same composer's Tamil title track for the movie New.^[6] His song "Kavite" in Kannada movie Gaalipata too became famous.

He has sung for about 25 foreign films including a Chinese film with music by Surender Sodhi. He has recorded for ads like "Kabhi chatpataa" for Knorr Soups and "Na sar jhuka hain kabhi" for HDFC Life Insurance. In 2008 he sang the "Condom a capella" ringtone composed by Rupert Fernandes and produced by the BBC World Service Trust for an Indian safe sex campaign.^[7] In 2009, his song, "Jai Ho", won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Song.^[2]

He was one of the Judges in Confident Star Singer 2 (Kannada), aired on Asianet Suvarna in 2009.

He has sung "Om Sivoham", a Sanskrit song penned by Vaali and composed by Ilaiyaraaja which was the main theme song of 2009 Tamil film Naan Kadavul.

In 2010, he became a regular singer under composer A. R. Rahman, as he performed several of his numbers such as "Hosanna" (Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, Ye Maaya Chesave), "Beera Beera, Veera Veera (in Tamil & Telugu Versions)" (Raavan & Raavanan), "Powerstar" (Komaram Puli) and "Kadhal Anukkal" (Enthiran).

Solo career (2004 onwards)[link]

After leaving Pakistani pop band Jal, Atif released his first solo album, Jal Pari, on 19 July 2004, under Sound Master and IC records. His work has gradually also become became popular in India. His is second album, Doorie, was released on 22 December 2006.

His first major concert was at Al Hamra Hall, Mall Road Lahore where he performed during the break of a stage drama Moulin Rouge. On 14 April 2007, Atif headlined in the Flex FX Dhamaka^[3] alongside Jay Sean at Royal Albert Hall. His first international concert was at W. StarDreamz Entertainment Group during his tour of USA and Canada with RDB and Annie. He recently performed in London's O2 Arena on 22nd April 2012 at the Flex FX Production's Dhamaka^[4] Bollywood Concert with Naz Choudhury^[5] and his Bolly Flex team to promote love, peace & unity among India and Pakistan becoming first Pakistani pop singer to perform on The O2 Arena stage.

Atif also mentioned in a press conference held in Karachi that he will be working on an international project titled The Dreamer Awakes, alongside members of American rock band Guns N' Roses.^{[citation needed]}

There were rumors circulating online that his new album was titled Shabnam. This was denied by Atif. “Right now, my entire focus is on this project (The Dreamer Awakes). I may be singing with Chris Martin or John Mayer… we’re trying to bring a lot of people together.”^[6] He has been greatly influenced by the singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Kishore Kumar and K.K.

Sarmad Ghafoor, a guitarist and producer for Qayaas contacted Atif Aslam to collaborate with them for the Fifth Season of Coke Studio (Pakistan). Atif Aslam in collaboration with Qayaas performed a revived rendition of "Charkha Nolakha" by Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The song and that entire episode received positive reviews from critics not only in Pakistan but also across the border in India.
