Andong
Andong is a city in Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, South Korea. It is the largest city in the northern part of the province with a population of 167,821 in October 2010. The Nakdong River flows through the city. Andong is a market centre for the surrounding agricultural areas.
Since the 1970s Andong has developed rapidly, although the population has fallen by nearly seventy thousand as people have moved away to Seoul and other urban centers. In the late 1990s and early 2000s it became a tourism and cultural centre.
Andong is known as a centre of culture and folk traditions. The surrounding area maintains many ancient traditions, so in mid October the Andong Folk Festival is held every year. One of the most famous aspects of these cultural festivities are the Andong masks.
Andong National University, specialising in education and Korean folklore has grown rapidly since the 1970s. Other tertiary institutions include Andong Institute of Information Technology, Andong Science College, and Catholic Sangji College.

Ansan
Ansan is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It lies south of Seoul, and is part of the Seoul National Capital Area. It is connected to Seoul by rail via Seoul Subway Line 4.
Ansan is situated on the coast of the Yellow Sea (locally called West Sea), at 37°19′N 126°50′E / 37.317°N 126.833°E / 37.317; 126.833. Portions of various Yellow Sea islands lie within its jurisdiction. The largest and best-known of these is Daebu Island.

In 1986, several towns of Hwaseong county became incorporated, representing the beginning of Ansan as a city. With currently over 700,000 residents, Ansan now has 2 distinct and separate districts: Danwon, which counted 12 dongs as of 2009, and Sangnok, with 13.

Anseong
Anseong is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, 80 km south of Seoul. Its geographical location is 37°0′N 127°16′E / 37°N 127.267°E / 37; 127.267.
Anseong promotes itself as "The City of Masters". It is known for producing brassware and arts and crafts. From late Spring to Fall, Anseong is holds its own Namsadang Neuri Festival. The agriculture of Anseong consists of Asian pears grapes, and rice.
In 1963, Gosam town of Yongin was incorporateded by Anseong.^{[citation needed]} At that time, Anseong was a county. In 1983, 6 towns ceded by Anseong and attached as a district of Pyeongtak.^{[citation needed]} In 1998, Anseong county became Anseong city.

Asan
Asan is a city in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. It is located at 36°47′N 126°59′E / 36.783°N 126.983°E / 36.783; 126.983, bordering the Seoul Metropolitan Area to the north. Asan has a population of approximately 250,000.
Asan is known for its hot springs and is a city of spas.
Asan has grown into the neighboring village, Onyang-dong, which is also known for its hot springs.
Asan should not be confused with Ansan, in Gyeonggi Province.
The city of Asan shares a station for the KTX high speed trains with the neighbouring city of Cheonan called Cheonan-Asan Station. It takes about 30 minutes to travel from Asan to Seoul by the KTX train. It can be reached within 2 hours from Incheon International Airport by car. Seoul Metropolitan Subway extended one of its lines to service Asan on December 15, 2008. Two major highways, the Seoul-Busan and West Coast expressways, also pass through Asan city.
Companies like Hyundai Motor, Samsung LCD, and Samsung Electronic have factories in Asan. A total of 14 industrial complexes are currently occupied by autoparts, electronic parts and other factories.

Boryeong
Boryeong, commonly known as Daecheon, is a city in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. It is located at 36°20′N 126°37′E / 36.333°N 126.617°E / 36.333; 126.617, on the coast of the Yellow Sea. It lies on the Janghang Line railroad, which connects it to Seoul via the Gyeongbu Line. It is also connected to the Seohaean Expressway. Boryeong is known around Korea for its beaches, particularly Daecheon Beach, and its annual mud festival around July, Boryeong Mud Festival. The city's beach-mud is widely touted for its cosmetic properties. As elsewhere along the southwest coast of the Korean peninsula, there are numerous small islands, many of which are connected by ferry to Daecheon Port.
Boryeong gained its present boundaries in 1995, with the merger of Boryeong-gun and Daecheon City. Previously, the 2 entities were separated in 1986, and before that time had been united under the name Boryeong County (Boryeong-gun) since the Joseon Dynasty.

Bucheon
Bucheon is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Bucheon is a satellite city of Seoul, 25 km away. It is sandwiched between Incheon and Seoul. Manufacturing operations are located in the city.
Bucheon promotes itself as the cultural centre of the Seoul Metropolitan Area. The Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra is located there and an annual international film festival is held in July, called the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival or PiFAN.
Bucheon's institutions of higher education include: Bucheon College, Yuhan College, Catholic University of Korea Bucheon campus, and Seoul Theological University.
In 1914, some areas of Incheon City and Bupyeong County were joined together under the name Bucheon. In 1931, Gyenam township (myeon, 계남면) was renamed Sosa township (myeon, 소사면). In 1941, Sosa township promoted to eup (town) status. After independence from Japan, the westernmost area of Bucheon was set apart and joined to Incheon city once again.
January 1, 1963, several districts were combined to form Yeongdeungpo-gu (영등포구) of Seoul Metropolitan City as below.

Busan
Busan (Officially Busan Metropolitan City), formerly spelled Pusan (Korean pronunciation: [pusan]) is South Korea's second largest metropolis after Seoul, with a population of around 3.6 million. Cheonan (Cheonan-si, sometimes spelled Chonan or Ch'onan) (Korean pronunciation: [tɕʰʌ.nan] ( listen)) is a city located in the northeast corner of South Chungcheong, a province of South Korea, and is 83.6 km south of the capital, Seoul. The average temperature in the city is 12.5^oC, with a recorded high of 34.2^oC and a low of -13.4^oC.
Cheonan has been called “the core city of [the] nation” as it is the gateway to the area around the national capital region and western Chungcheong, as well as the main transportation hub for the national road (Hwy 1, 21), railways, and expressways (IC 1-Gyeongbu Expressway, 25-Honam Expressway). At the Korail station in the downtown center, the Gyeongbu Line crosses north to south, and the Janghang Line extends to the south-west. Land routes open in all directions, including north to Seoul, west to Asan, south to Gongju and Daejeon, and east to Daegu and Busan.
Cheonan has always been a major transportation hub of Korea because of its proximity to Seoul and its location near a gap in the eastern mountain range (Charyeong Range) that allows passage through to the major southeast centers of Daegu and Busan. Cheonan’s Samgeori (meaning “3 ways”) park has been noted as a strategic point of transportation and a place where culture has spread for a long time. It is the place where Samnamdaero, which starts in Seoul, parts, leading one branch of the road through to the south-eastern Yeongnam region (which includes Gimcheon, Daegu, Gyeongju and Dongnae), and leading the other through Gongju and Nonsan to the Honam region (which includes Jeonju, Gwangju, Suncheon, and Yeosu).

Cheongju
Cheongju is the capital city of Chungcheongbuk-do (province), South Korea. The city is divided into two wards ("Gu"), Heungdeok-gu (western part of the city) and Sangdang-gu (eastern part of the city).
Cheongju has been an important provincial town since ancient times.
During Hideyoshi's Invasions of Korea, Cheongju was the site of the Battle of Chongju, during which the Korean forces re-took the city from the Japanese forces in an important early victory.

Geum River goes through right center of Cheongju city. Additionally, the tributaries of Musim and Miho flow together in northern part of city. To east and west, there are mountains of Wuam and Bumo.

Chuncheon
Chuncheon (Hangul: 춘천; RR: Chuncheon-si) is the capital of Gangwon Province, South Korea. The city lies in the northeast of the county, located in a basin formed by the Soyang River and Han River. There are some large lakes around the city, most notably Lake Soyang and Lake Uiam. The area is renowned for its small river islands, such as Sangjungdo, Ha-Jungdo, Bungeodo, and Wido.
It is a popular destination among east Asian tourists as it was featured in the popular Korean drama Winter Sonata. It is where the resort island of Namiseom is located.
Chuncheon is a hometown of a famous soccer player Son Heung Min, who is currently playing at Hamburger SV in Bundesliga the German football league.
The area now occupied by the city was first settled about 1000 years ago. In 637 AD the city was called Usooju. In 757 AD it was renamed Saku and again in 940 AD as Chunju (春州) before receiving its current name in 1413. In 1896, Chuncheon became the capital city of Gangwon province. The city was largely destroyed during the Korean War during the Battle of Chuncheon.

Chungju
Chungju is a city in North Chungcheong province, South Korea. Namsan is a mountain located on the outskirts of the city.
The city is famous for the annual martial arts festival held in October. Also of note, UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon grew up here.
Chungju Dam is the country's biggest multi-purpose dam that links together Chungju and its neighborhoods. It creates a manmade lake with a vast body of water.
Woraksan Mt and Songnae valley are located nearby. Additionally, this area has cherished cave area/springs.
In 2013 it will host the 2013 World Rowing Championships.
Chungju is famous for its production of apples. The principal reasons being because of the large amount of daylight received and high difference of temperatures. The growing of apples started 300 years ago from China and it was 1912 when the city officially began to plant trees. The scale is the greatest in Chungcheongbuk-do.
There are two universities in Chungju: Konkuk University (Chungju campus) and Chungju National University.

Daegu (Korean: [tɛɡu]), (대구, 大邱, literally 'large hill') formerly spelled Taegu, and officially known as the Daegu Metropolitan City, is a city in South Korea, the fourth largest after Seoul, Busan, and Incheon, and the third largest metropolitan area in the country with over 2.5 million residents. The city is the capital and principal city of the surrounding Gyeongsangbuk-do province, although it is not legally part of the province. The two areas combined are often referred to as Daegu-Gyeongbuk, with a total population of over 5 million.
Daegu is located in south-eastern Korea about 80 km from the seacoast, near the Geumho River and its mainstream, Nakdong River in Gyeongsang-do. The Daegu basin, where the city lies, is the central plain of the Yeongnam region, making the city the natural center of the region's politics, economy, and culture.
In ancient times, Daegu was part of the Silla Kingdom which was the first successful attempt to unify the Korean Peninsula. During the Joseon Dynasty period, the city was the capital of Gyeongsang-do which was one of eight provinces of the country. Daegu was an important motor during South Korea's rapid economic growth period (1960s–1980s) and is currently focused on becoming a leading center in Korea for the fashion and high-tech industries. Daejeon
Daejeon (Korean: [tɛdʑʌn] ( listen)) is South Korea's fifth largest metropolis and the provincial capital of Chungnam. Located in the center of the country, Daejeon has a population of over 1.5 million in 2010. It is at the crossroads of Gyeongbu railway, Honam railway, Gyeongbu Expressway, and Honam Expressway. The Daejeon area was historically known as Hanbat (한밭), a native Korean term for "large field", during the Joseon Dynasty. The term "Daejeon" simply means the same thing in Hanja.

Dangjin
Dangjin is a city in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. It stands on the south shore of the Bay of Asan. Dangjin borders Incheon, Pyeongtaek, and Hwaseong by sea, and Seosan, Yesan, and Asan by land. Its name means "Tang ferry," and refers to the historic role of Dangjin's harbor in connecting Korea to the other side of the Yellow Sea. This role continues to be important in the city's economy, which relies on a mixture of agriculture and heavy industry.

The name "Dangjin" was first used to refer to this area during the Joseon Dynasty. From 1413 to 1895, it was known as Dangjin-hyeon, a division of Chungcheong Province. The city achieved its present borders in 1973, with the merger of a portion of Jeongmi-myeon into Seosan's Unsan-myeon.
As of March 2005, in Dangjin there were 33 elementary schools, 12 middle schools, and 38 preschools, serving 14,293 students. In addition, there were 8 high schools. All of these organs are overseen by the Dangjing Office of Education.

Dongducheon is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.
The city located in the north of Seoul is strategically important for the defence of the Korean capital.The main camps of the US Second Infantry Division are located in the city with the division command at Uijeongbu City.
During Goguryeo, dynasty was going down into Korean peninsula and Dongducheon came to parts of Goguryeo as a part of naeulmae hyun (kinds of ancient village). Later Dongducheon promoted into Sacheon village of Unified Silla in North South States Period. It was the part of Yangju in Goryeo.
In 1963, the status was raised into Tongducheon town (eup). In 1981, Dongducheon city was established including Yangju county.

Since 1999, Dongducheon has annually hosted the Dongducheon Rock Festival, one of the biggest rock festivals in South Korea. In 2007, the festival was held at Camp Nimble, a previous US Army installation turned back over to South Korea.
Also, maple festival takes place around several streets and parts of the city.

Donghae City
Donghae is a city in Gangwon Province, South Korea. There are two major ports: Donghae Harbor and Mukho Harbor. The city is located on the Yeongdong Line railroad and the Donghae Expressway. Numerous caverns are found in the city, as in neighboring Samcheok. Donghae University is located here.
Donghae City is located in the central region of the east coast of Korea in Gangwon-do. Jeongseon county to the west and Gangneung city to the north. It contains the northern terminus of the Donghae Expressway, and the No.37 national way passes through the city.
The city is mostly mountainous and has natural resources such as Mureung Valley and beautiful beaches. Here, the high Taebaek Mountains lie along the eastern coast, preventing rivers from meeting the coast. However, in the rainy season, spontaneous water flow is possible.

Gangneung
Gangneung is a city in Gangwon-do, on the east coast of South Korea. It has a population of 229,869 (as of 2006). Gangneung is the economic centre of the Yeongdong region of Gangwon Province. Gangneung has many tourist attractions, such as Jeongdongjin, a very popular area for watching the sun rise. There is a ROK airbase south of downtown Gangneung which formerly doubled as a civil airport.
The city is also home to National League soccer club Gangneung City FC and K-League soccer team Gangwon FC.
The flag of the city shows a red sun in the centre and blue wave in front, on a white background. The sun represents the sunrise, the wave the sea. Wang Haibo is the cities icon. The flower of the city is the crepe myrtle, the tree of the city is the pine tree, its bird the swan. The animal of Gangneung is the tiger.
Gangneung is considered special in that it has both access to a lake and the sea. Gyeongpodae is a pavilion overlooking a Gyeongpo lake. It is said that one can see the moon five times when at Gyeongpodae. One sees the moon once in the sky, once reflected in the lake, once reflected in the sea, once reflected in the drinking glass, and once more in the eyes of a lover. The site of Gyeongpodae is known for its location east of the centre of the city.

Geoje
Geoje is a city located in South Gyeongsang province, just off the coast of the port city of Busan, South Korea. Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (former Daewoo Shipyard) in Okpo and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in Gohyeon are both located on Geoje Island. The city also offers a wide range of tourist sights. The city is made up of a number of islands, of which by far the largest is Geoje Island.
In 757, Gyeongdeok of Silla classified the island as "Geoje-gun" (Geoje county). Modern Geoje is classified as a "si" (city). In 1170, Uijong of Goryeo secretly escaped to Geoje when Jung Jungbu raised a rebellion against him, instating his brother, Myeongjong as king. Geoje served as a strategic location in preparation of the naval forces for the Gihae Eastern Expedition (기해동정) of Tsushima Island in 1419 by the Korean general Yi Jong Mu. At the time of the Seven-Year War in 1592, admiral Yi Sun-sin gained a great naval victory against Japanese invaders near the town of Okpo in Geoje. Since then. Yi was referred to by his noble title, "Chung Mu Gong," which roughly translates into English as "Earner of Great National Respect."

Gimcheon
Gimcheon is a city in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. It is situated on the major land transportation routes between Seoul and Busan, namely the Gyeongbu Expressway and Gyeongbu Line railway.
The outlying regions of Gimcheon are divided into fourteen myeon (or townships) and one eup (or large village). In addition, the city center is divided into seven dong, or precincts.
Gimcheon is located in the center of Gyeongbu Expressway and lots of roads go through the city. There are connections via the Gyeongbu Line and the Gyeongbuk Line. A newly-built KTX station, Gimcheon-Gumi Station, opened in 2010.

Gimhae
Gimhae, also commonly spelled Kimhae, is a city in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Gimhae is known to locals as "The Paris of Gyeongsangnamdo."^{[citation needed]} It is the seat of the large Gimhae Kim clan, one of the largest Kim clans in Korea. The Gimhae Kims claim descent from the ancient royal house of Geumgwan Gaya, which was based in Gimhae.
The city has a Korea National League soccer club called Gimhae FC.
Gimhae is also the birthplace of former President of South Korea, the late Roh Moo-hyun.
Gimhae has a thriving foreigner community consisting mostly of foreign English teachers and factory workers for Samsung and LG. Prominent foreigners in Gimhae include local basketball legend Steve Williams from the USA and famed LGBQT artist Sam Webber from England.
The largest foreigner sports club in Gimhae is the Gimhae Semi-Athletic Club (G-SAC) located in Nae-dong.
Due to the influence of coastal climate, Gimhae is the mildest region in Korea. The annual average temperature is around 15℃, and annual average precipitation is 1,200mm, which is very similar to that of the Korean average of 1,274mm.

Gimje (Gimje-si) is a city in North Jeolla Province, South Korea.
Gimje area has been cultivated since ancient times. Nations of early date ascend in year 200. Baekje Kingdom invaded and incorporated several small mahan states into herself in the 13th year of King Onjo’s reign. After long times, Baekje Kingdom changed its name as Byeogol but its date is not clear.

Goryeo dynasty raised up its position to Gimje District in the 21st year of King Injong’s reign.
In Joseon Dynasty, Gimje firstly appeared in the year 1466 when Sejo of Joseon ruled. He promoted once again Gimje as independent county. In 1628, Gwanghaegun of Joseon combined near district called Mangyeong District into Gimje County.
Gimje is the only one region where Koreans can see horizon in landlocked area. City government enhanced its cultural characteristic of cultivating rice and other species for a long time. Gimje was under Baekje Kingdom and was one of the best area for growing rice in the 20th century, too. The festival was appointed Excellent Festival for 4 years since 2004. It also provided chance for city residents to feel traditional farming methods.

Gimpo
Gimpo is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It borders on Incheon, with which it shares the South Korean side of the Han River estuary, as well as Seoul and the lesser cities of Paju and Goyang. It also looks across the Han River at North Korea. The current mayor is Gyeonggu Kang. The city's population of more than 220,000 is made up of more than 71,000 households.
Gimpo Airport (formerly Kimpo International Airport) used to be located inside the city, but is now part of Seoul. Tertiary educational institutions located in the city include Kimpo College and Joong-ang Seungga University. There are 24 elementary schools, 11 middle schools, and 6 high schools, including Gimpo Foreign Language High School.
In 1914, Yangcheon county and Gimpo county were merged. Yangcheon county was separated into 2 towns (Yangdong and Yangseo). In 1958, Yeouido international airport was relocated to Gimpo. In 1963, Yangdong and Yangseo towns were incorporated into Yeongdeungpo-gu; it includes Gimpo airport. In 1973, Gyeyang and Ojeong towns of Bucheon were transferred to Gimpo. In 1989, parts of Gyeyang town were ceded to Incheon, giving Incheon a border with southwestern Seoul.

Gongju
Gongju (Gongju-si), also spelt Kongju, is a city in South Chungcheong province, South Korea.
Gongju was formerly named Ungjin and was the capital of Baekje from AD 475 to 538. In this period, Baekje was under threat from Goguryeo. Goguryeo had overrun the previous capital of Hanseong (modern-day Seoul), which forced Baekje to find a new center of strength.
In 538, King Seong moved the capital to Sabi (in modern-day Buyeo County). However, Gongju remained an important center until the kingdom's fall in 660.
On August 11, 2004, the South Korean Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan announced that the country's capital will be moved from Seoul to Gongju (approximately 120 km south of Seoul) and Yeongi commencing in 2007. A 72.91 square kilometres (18,020 acres) site was chosen for the project, which was scheduled to be completed by 2030. It was envisaged that government and administrative functions will move to the new capital, along with (possibly) the National Assembly and supreme court, although no sizable relocation was expected until the first phase of the project has been completed by 2012.

Goyang
Goyang is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Goyang includes the new city of Ilsan, which is connected to Seoul via Seoul Subway Line 3. Goyang is bordered by Seoul to the south; walls of the Bukhan Mountain Fortress lie along a small portion of this border.

Gunpo
Gunpo is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It is part of the Seoul National Capital Area. Its largest immediate urban neighbor is Suwon. Hansei University is located in the city.

Gunsan
Gunsan is a city in North Jeolla Province, South Korea. It is located on the south bank of the Geum River just upstream from its exit into the Yellow Sea. Gunsan is served by frequent railway service on the Gunsan Line from Iksan. It is also connected to the Seohaean Expressway.
Kunsan Air Base of the U.S. Air Force is located in the city. To encourage investment, a free trade zone has also been declared in the area.
Famous people from Gunsan include actress Lee Eun-ju, comedian Park Myeong-su, and Teen Top member L.Joe, who were all born there.
Gunsan was a small fishing village on the banks of the Geum River, near to where the river spills into the Yellow Sea. It sits on the fertile western Honam plain where much rice is harvested. Gunsan became a port in the late 19th century largely due to pressure from the Japanese on the Koreans to ship rice to Japan. In 1899, Gunsan Port officially opened up to international trade. Gunsan City was largely settled by Japanese during the period of Japanese colonization. The old (now demolished) City Hall and the Customs House are of Japanese construction. After liberation from the Japanese in 1945, Gunsan began to grow slowly.

Guri
Guri is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The name "Guri" is thought by some to mean "nine villages," which is reflected in the Hanja (Chinese characters; gu - nine; village - ri/li) for the town. It is located immediately to the east of Seoul, in the heart of the Capital Metropolitan Area.
The Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty (dong-gu-reung) are located in the city. The low mountain of Achasan is also located here, site of the Baekje-era Acha Mountain Fortress and numerous hiking trails. It also has pleasant walking paths along Wang-suk-cheon, a small creek separating Guri from Namyangju. The traditional town market in Toldari (Guri's downtown around what used to be a "stone bridge") provides a cheap alternative to department stores.
Guri first became a separate city in 1986. Previously, it had been considered part of Yangju from antiquity until 1980, and part of Namyangju from 1980 to 1986. The name "Guri" was first used in 1914, at which time it was a myeon in Yangju. Guri is connected to Seoul via a commuter railway (Jungang Line), as well as numerous city transit and intercity buses.

Gwacheon
Gwacheon is a city in Gyeonggi-do Province, South Korea. It lies close to Seoul in the heart of the Seoul National Capital Area, and also lies just east of Anyang. Seoul Subway Line 4 passes through the city.

Gwangju
Gwangju (officially known as Gwangju Metropolitan City; Korean pronunciation: [kwaŋdʑu]) is the sixth largest city in South Korea. It is a designated metropolitan city under the direct control of the central government's Home Minister. The city was also the capital of South Jeolla Province until the provincial office moved to the southern village of Namak in Muan County in 2005.

The city was established in 57 BC, and has been a major political and economic centre of Korea ever since. It was one of the administrative centres of Baekje during the Three Kingdoms Period.
In 1929, during the period of Japanese rule, a confrontation between Korean and Japanese students in the city turned into a regional demonstration, which culminated in one of the major nationwide uprisings against Japanese rule during the colonial period.

Gwangmyeong
Gwangmyeong is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It borders Seoul to the north and northeast, Anyang to the east and south, and Siheung to the southwest.
There are 18 administrative districts ("dongs" in Korean) in Gwangmyeong. Specifically, these are: Gwangmyeong Dong (from 1-7; Gwangmyeong 6-dong is also known as Okgil dong), Cheolsan Dong (4 dongs), Ha-an Dong (4 dongs), Soha Dong (2 dongs; Soha 2-dong is also known as Iljik dong), and Hak-on dong (Gahak-dong and No-onsa dong).

Lee Won Ik's cultural relics are also on display here. The city is also home to the Gwangmyeong Velodrome, the largest domed structure in South Korea.
The city, though small, hosts many firms. In total, there are 630 companies employing 11,636 people.

Gwangyang
Gwangyang (Gwangyang-si) is a city in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. Gwangyang city is the home of POSCO's Gwangyang Steel Works, the largest facility of its kind in the world. The city is also home to K-League soccer side Chunnam Dragons.
Gwangyang is at the centre of development for the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone (GFEZ) due for completion in 2011. The Free Economic Zone will focus on port container handling, steel production, shipbuilding as well as leisure facilities.

Gyeongju

Gyeryong
Gyeryong is a city in southeastern South Chungcheong province, South Korea. The current mayor is Hong-Mook Choi. The city was created in 2003, by a split from Nonsan city, following prolonged local agitation.

Later Gyeryong was chosen as the site for military. In 1989, Military and army headquarters, Gyeryongdae, moved to Gyeryong City. In 1991, it was designated as special area by president. The congress voted and decided via a special legislative bill that Gyeryong city be established on June 30, 2003. Six months later, the city officially came out.

Hanam
Hanam is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Formerly a part of Gwangju County, it was designated a city in 1989. The ancient Baekje capital of Hanam Wiryeseong may have been located there.

Icheon
Icheon is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It should not be confused with the much larger Incheon Metropolitan City. The Icheon Ceramics Village features 300-plus ceramics-making firms in the area of Sugwang-ri, Sindun-myeon, Saeum-dong. They use traditional skills and produce porcelains in some 40 traditional firewood kilns. This pottery is recognized both at home and abroad for its quality.
The Saeum-dong and Sindun-myeon areas also include a ceramics village with many ceramics stores. Potters have researched traditional methods and revived the manufacture of ceramics in the style of Goryeo celadon and Joseon white porcelain here. The village is the center of the effort to preserve these traditions.

Iksan
Iksan is a city and major railway junction in North Jeolla Province, (commonly transliterated as Jeollabuk-do or Chollabuk-do) South Korea.

Jeju Province
Jeju-do (transliterated Korean for Jeju Province, short form of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province or Cheju Island) is the special autonomous province of South Korea, situated on and coterminous with the country's largest island. Jeongeup
Jeongeup, also known as Jeongeup-si, is a city in North Jeolla Province, South Korea. The city limits include Naejang-san National Park, a popular destination particularly in autumn due to its foliage. Jeongeup is on the Honam Expressway and Honam Line, with the Seohaean Expressway also within easy reach, providing links to Seoul and Mokpo.
Jeongeup's population is in decline, with an average of 56 people moving to the city every day but 91 leaving, with the birth and death rates being equal. The divorce rate currently runs at 50%.
The main hills in Jeongeup are Naejang-san National Park and Ibamsan, though there are also several smaller hills in the city. It is the east of the city which is more mountainous, the west being a plain around the Dongjin River. There are several streams in Jeongeup, most notably the Jeongeupcheon, a tributary of the Dongjin. This is undergoing a makeover by the city council, scheduled for completion in December 2009.
Jeongeup, like many cities in Korea, had a hyanggyo, or Confucian school, where people were trained in Confucian ways. This building is a tourist attraction today, but is not open to the public.

Jeonju

The Chŏnju Kim in North Korea, of whom Kim Il-sung was descended from, have their ancestral seat (pon’gwan) in Jeonju as well.

Jinju
Jinju is a city in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. It was the location of the first (1592) and second (1593) Sieges of Jinju by Japanese forces during the Imjin War. The Republic of Korea Air Force Education and Training Command is located in the easten part of the city. There are cultural-historical tourist attractions in Jinju such as Jinju Castle, the Jinju National Museum, and the Nam-gang Prehistoric Site Museum.
There are cultural events held in Jinju every year. Among these are the Jinju Namgang Lantern Festival which is held in October for approximately ten days. This nationally designated cultural tourism festival, found only in Jinju, features a spectacle of lanterns floating on the Nam River to commemorate the patriotic spirit of the 70,000 militia corps and government troops who died for their country defending Jinju from the Japanese forces during the Imjin War (1592–1598). Other major festivals include: the Nongae Festival, the Korean Drama Festival, the Gaecheon Arts Festival and the Jinju National Bullfighting Contest.

Miryang
Miryang, often spelled Milyang, is a city in Gyeongsangnam-do Province, South Korea. Neighboring cities include Changnyeong to the west, Cheongdo to the north, Ulsan to the east, and Yangsan, Gimhae, and Changwon to the south. The city bird is the Korean magpie, the city tree is the pine, and the city flower is the royal azalea.
The recorded history of Miryang begins in the Samhan period, when it was known as Mirimidongguk. Due to its strategic location near the Nakdong River, Miryang played an important role from the Silla period forward. It served as an important station on the Great Yeongnam Road during the later Joseon Dynasty, and in the 20th century it became a station on the Gyeongbu Line railroad that connects Busan to Seoul. Miryang remains a key stop along that line, and is now the only city between Busan and Daegu served by KTX express trains.
Miryang is known around Korea for the Miryang arirang and for the view from the Yeongnamnu pavilion, subject of numerous poems from the Joseon Dynasty. Other noted landmarks include Eoreumgol and the temple of Pyochungsa. Famous people from Miryang include 15th-century Neo-Confucian scholar Kim Jong-jik and 16th-century warrior-monk Songun Yu Jeong. The city government works actively to maintain the memory of these figures, and of other local cultural features such as the tale of Arang.

Mungyeong
Mungyeong (Korean: 문경 Mungyeong) is a city in Gyeongsangbuk Province, South Korea. The local government, economy, and transportation networks are all centered in Jeomchon, the principal town. Mungyeong has a lengthy history, and is known today for its various historic and scenic tourist attractions. The city's name means roughly "hearing good news."
The city of Mungyeong was created after Jeomchon City and rural Mungyeong County were combined in 1995. It is now an urban-rural complex similar to 53 other small and medium-sized cities with a population under 300,000 people in South Korea.
The Mungyeong area is believed to have been controlled by a mixture of Jinhan and Byeonhan states during the Samhan period in the first centuries of the Common Era. The Jinhan state of Geungi-guk may have been located near Sanyang-myeon. Byeonhan states such as Sabeol-guk and Gosunsi-guk, which probably controlled the Hamchang area of Sangju, may also have extended their control over adjacent areas that are now part of Mungyeong. However, this stage of local history is almost entirely hypothetical, since very little evidence of any kind remains.

The capital of South Jeolla was located at Naju until it was moved to Gwangju in 1895. The name Jeolla actually originates from the first character of Jeonju (전, 全) and the first character of Naju (나, 羅). Dongshin University is situated in Naju. Naju is famous for the Naju Pear which is a large round pear that forms its district logo.
A well-known local product is the Naju Pear, which has long been cultivated along the River Yeongsan.
Naju Pears and muskmelons are popular as gifts for Lunar New Year and other holidays.
Naju was designated an Innovative City candidate and the opening ceremony for city construction was held on November 8, 2007. President Roh participated in the opening events.
If the city was to win the title of "Innovative City", several public offices would move from Seoul, to the Naju area. Naju's construction was 4th begun after Jeju, Gimcheon and Jinju.
The area of the new city is expected to be 7.26m². The masterplan of Naju city proposed to develop eco-friendly nature and city administration.

Namwon (Namwon-si) is a city in North Jeolla Province, South Korea. Namwon is about 45 minutes from the provincial capital of Jeonju, which is three hours away from Seoul.

Namwon is a small city located just outside of Jirisan National Park, which has the largest set of mountains on the South Korean Mainland. It is 3 and a half hours from the Seoul Central City Bus Terminal and about one hour from both the U-Square Bus Terminal in Gwangju and the Jeonju Inter City Bus Terminal. It is called "the City of Love" because of the famous Korean love story of Chunhyang. Gwanghallu Garden is a shrine to this love story.
Namwon was founded in 685 during the reign of King Sinmun of Silla Kingdom. Namwon county was founded on April 1, 1895.
The city suffered during the Siege of Namwon in 1597 which was part of the Imjin War. During the siege that lasted from August 13 to August 16 the only defenders against the Japanese army of 56,000 men were 3300 Korean and Chinese soldiers and 6000 women and children. In the end the Japanese found a way to enter the city and killed all the soldiers and civilians.

Nonsan
Nonsan is a city in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. It is located at 36°12′N 127°5′E / 36.2°N 127.083°E / 36.2; 127.083. Nonsan is also called Nolmoi, meaning dusk(y) or yellow mountain^{[citation needed]}; "Nonsan" means rice paddies + mountain(s).
During the Samhan period, Nonsan is believed to have been part of Mahan territory. In the Baekje period, the district belonged to Hwangdeungyasan-gun. The crucial battle in which Silla defeated Baekje is thought to have taken place in the general area of Nonsan. Later, in the Silla period, Nonsan was divided into two different towns: Deogeun and Hwangsan.
The modern city of Nonsan was established in 1914, by the merger of the four counties of Yeonsan-gun, Eunjin-gun, Noseong-gun and Seoksung-gun.
Nonsan is served by the national railroad system and city, regional and national bus lines. An expressway connects the city to Daejeon and other cities. Many streets have bike paths, sharing pavement with sidewalks. The stream running through the city proper is not navigable, but downstream it joins the Geum River, and an outlying subdivision of the city serves as a significant fishing port.

Osan
Osan is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, approximately 35 km south of Seoul. The population of the city is around 200,000. The local economy is supported by a mix of agricultural and industrial enterprises.

Osan came to be called by its current name in 1914, at the time of a general reorganization of local governments under Japanese rule. At that time it became Osan-myeon, part of Suwon. This name in turn was taken from that of a local stream, the Osancheon. However, prior to the Japanese occupation, the name had been rendered in hanja as 鰲山, meaning "soft-shelled turtle mountain." Because of the complexity of the 鰲 ("o") character, and because crows were abundant in the area, the Japanese changed the name to 烏山, meaning "bird mountain."^{[citation needed]} This name has been retained to this day even as a surname in India.

Pocheon
Pocheon is a landlocked city in the far northeastern region of Gyeonggi province in South Korea. It covers 826.48 km² with a population of 160,176 people, according to the 2008 census. Pocheon lies between Seoul and the mountainous northwestern areas of Gangwon province. The city borders Yeoncheon county, with the cities of Dongducheon and Yangju to the west, along with Uijeongbu, and Namyangju of Gyeonggi province to the south. It also borders Hwacheon county of Gangwon province on its eastern border and Cheorwon is to the north. Alongside the adjoining Gapyeong, Pocheon consists of the highest mountainous areas in Gyeonggi province. The current city of Pocheon was created after Pocheon-hyeon and Yeongpyeong counties were merged. The north part of the city used to be part of Yeongpyeong county while the south used to be part of Pocheon-hyeon.
The city of Pocheon belonged to Mahan during the Samhan period. and was part of Mahol during the Goguryeo period. After the Korean peninsula was unified by Silla, it was called Gyeonseong-gun (堅城郡). As Silla was absorbed by the ruling dynasty, Goryeo, the name was changed to Poju-gun (抱州郡) in 995, the 14th year of King Seongjeong's reign. During the King Hyeonjong's reign, the region belonged to Yangju-gun, Yanggwang-do. In the next ruling dynasty, Joseon, the region was named Pocheon-gun after the eight province system was established in 1413.

Pohang
Pohang is a city in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, and a main seaport in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. The built-up area of Pohang is located on the alluvium of the mouth of the Hyeongsan River. The city is divided into two wards ("Gu"), Buk-gu (Northern Ward) and Nam-gu (Southern Ward).
This city has the largest population of Gyeongbuk and it has the 3rd widest land of South Korea.
The earliest evidence of human occupation in the Pohang area is from the Mumun Pottery Period (1500–300 BC). Archaeologists have unearthed small villages and megalithic burials (dolmens) from this period. Still a small fishing village at the dawn of the 20th century, the earliest steps toward developing Pohang into a place of greater significance were taken in 1930 with the construction of a modern harbour. Pohang grew rapidly afterward, attaining the designation of a Town in 1931 and then earning the status of a City in 1949.
Pohang's road arteries and shipping port made it a place of strategic significance during the Korean War. An unopposed landing of UN forces at Pohang on July 18, 1950 was the first large-scale amphibious operation since World War II, and the region around Pohang saw fierce clashes between South Korea's 3rd Infantry Division and North Korea's 5th Infantry Division during August–September 1950.

Pyeongtaek
Pyeongtaek is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Located in the southwestern part of the province, Pyeongtaek was founded as a union of two districts in 940 AD, during the Goryeo dynasty. It was elevated to city status in 1986, and is home to a South Korean naval base and a large concentration of United States troops. The Korean government plans to transform Pyeongtaek city to an international economic hub to coincide with the move of the United States Forces Korea (USFK) to Pyeongtaek. During the Korean War it was the site of an early battle between US and North Korean forces, the Battle of Pyongtaek.
The United States and South Korean government came to an agreement to enlarge Camp Humphreys, a US Army installation outside Anjeong-ri, a community in Pyeongtaek, and move the majority of US forces stationed in Seoul and north of Seoul to the Camp Humphreys area. Invoking eminent domain, the government obtained the surrounding land for the base expansion.
The move originally included the headquarters of the Combined Forces Command, which has operational control of ROK (Republic of Korea), US, and UN combined forces during wartime. In March 2007, US Defense Secretary Robert Gates and ROK Minister of Defense Kim Jang-soo agreed to dissolve the ROK-US Combined Forces Command on April 17, 2012. This would allow ROK forces to have wartime control of its military during a military confrontation with the North. The US/ROK agreement allows USFK to move to one centralized location away from the congestion of Seoul and its surrounding areas. This relocation agreement results in returning two-thirds of the land currently used by the United States Military back to the Korean government. By 2008, the US Military will have consolidated 41 installations down to just 10 due to the relocation agreement.

Sacheon
Sacheon is a city in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Sacheon's chief fame comes from its being the site of two naval battles in the Seven Year War.
The city as it now exists results from the merging of Sacheon-gun and Samcheonpo-si in 1995. The northern part of the city is called Sacheon-eub and is located at the top of Sacheon Bay, near the city of Jinju. The southern part of the city is located in the old Samcheonpo-si, which is located at the mouth of Sacheon Bay.
During prehistoric times, the local area was very important for trade between the interior and coastal area. A large central settlement called the Igeum-dong site developed in the neighbourhood of the same name in Samcheonpo. This complex site was a major settlement, megalithic cemetery, and ceremonial area during the latter part of the Middle Mumun pottery period (c. 700-550 B.C.). Several islands that lie just off the coast of Samcheonpo, including Neuk-do Island and Ma-do Islet, were also important during the same period and into the Korean Protohistoric period when this part of Korea increased its trade contacts with the chiefdoms in the Liaoning Province region of China, Taedong-gang River area of North Korea, and Yayoi chiefdoms of Western Japan (c. 300 B.C.- A.D. 300/400).

Sangju is a city in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. Although Sangju is rather rural, it is very old and was once a key city. Along with Gyeongju, it gives rise to half of the name of the Gyeongsang provinces. Sangju is nicknamed Sam Baek, or "Three Whites", referring to three prominent agricultural products rice, silkworm cocoons, and dried persimmons from the area.
Sangju lies on the northwestern border of North Gyeongsang province, touching on North Chungcheong province. Thus, to its west and north it adjoins the North Chungcheong counties of Boeun, Goesan, Okcheon, and Yeongdong. Within North Gyeongsang province, it touches Mungyeong on the north, Yecheon, Uiseong, and Gumi on the east, and Gimcheon to the south.
The north and west extremes of the city are found in Hwabuk-myeon, at 127°47′55″E and 36°14′6″N, respectively. The southern limit lies in Gongseong-myeon at 36°14′06″N, on the border with Gimcheon city. The eastern edge of Sangju is found in Jungdong-myeon at 128°20′28″E. The city thus spans a total distance of about 49 km from north to south, and about 43.3 km from east to west.

Seongnam
Seongnam is the second largest city in South Korea's Gyeonggi province after Suwon and the 10th largest city in the country. Its population is approximately one million. Seongnam is a satellite city of Seoul. It is largely a residential city located immediately south of Seoul and belongs to the Seoul National Capital Area.

Seosan
Seosan is a city in South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Located at 36°47′N 126°27′E / 36.783°N 126.45°E / 36.783; 126.45, it has a population of 163,055 according to the 2010 census.
Seosan has four distinct seasons. In spring, mild temperatures are accompanied by strong winds bearing dust from the Chinese mainland; this dust is called [hwangsa] (황사)or Asian Dust. In summer, the monsoon (jangma, 장마) lasts for about three weeks and is typified by heavy rainfall. As in the rest of Korea, Seosan may be affected by typhoons during the Summer. Category 1 Typhoon "Kompasu" caused damage to the city when it struck in the early hours of the morning of September 2, 2010. August is the hottest month and is humid. Fall begins in mid September and temperatures fall away quickly by November. The first winter snows usually appear in early December. The average annual temperature is 11.8 degrees Celsius.
Seosan is served by Express and by Intercity buses. It takes about 90 minutes to reach Seoul by Express bus, if traffic conditions are favourable. The nearest railway station is at Hongseong, about 40 km south. Hongseong Station is on the Janghang Line.

Siheung

In the early Three Kingdoms period, the Siheung area was part of the Baekje kingdom. It was lost to Goguryeo along with the Han River valley in 475.
Siheung acquired its current administrative identity on January 1, 1989, when the old county of Siheung was divided into the cities of Siheung, Gunpo, and Uiwang. At the time Siheung city had a population of only 93,000. This number more than tripled in the following decade, as massive suburban apartment complexes were developed.
Notable landmarks include Oi Island, Mount Sorae, and the port and inlet of Wolgot. Siheung includes two new cities that were developed in the 1990s, Sihwa and Wolgot New City. The new city of Sihwa includes a very large industrial complex. Companies headquartered there include Hansung Machinery Co. Korea Polytechnic University established in 1997, and also Kyonggi Institute of Technology established in 1998.
In 2006, Korea Polytechnic University built TIP (Techno Innovation Park). The building has 18 floors used for studying, research, and development for students, faculty, companies and government.

Sokcho
Sokcho (속초) is a city in Gangwon-do province, South Korea. It is located in the far northeast of Gangwon-do. Lying north of the 38th parallel, the city belonged to North Korea from 1945 until the end of the Korean War, when the dividing line between the two Korean states was officially altered. Consequently, many of the population have relatives in North Korea. Today, Sokcho receives a number of tourists attracted by the closeness to the DMZ. The city is also a well-known gateway to nearby Seoraksan national park.
Until the opening of the airport in Yangyang County, Sokcho had its own airport, linking the city to Seoul. The city still attracts many national and international tourists, not only because of Seorak-san, but also because of its fine fishery products. The beach of Sokcho has a good reputation, although it is only open for 42 days every year. There are natural hot springs in Sokcho, some of which have been developed into spas and pleasure swimming halls. There are also golf courses which are popular because of their natural surroundings.

Suwon

Tongyeong
Tongyeong is a coastal city in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. In 2010, it had an area of 238.81 ㎢ and a population of 139,869 people. It is divided into 1 eup (town), 6 myeon (township) and 11 dong (neighborhood). Chungmu city and Tongyeong county were reunited in 1995, creating Tongyeong City as we know it today. It consists of Goseong Peninsula, Hansan Island, Mireuk Island and other islets. It was formerly known as Chungmu, after the posthumous name of Admiral Yi Sun-sin. The name Tongyeong means "command post" and is itself associated with Admiral Yi, as it refers to his principal base that was located on nearby Hansan Island.
Tongyeong is situated in the southern tip of Goseong peninsula and its three sides are surrounded by the sea. It consists of 41 inhabited and 110 uninhabited islands. Tongyeong Port, the east gate of Hallyeo Marine National Park, is referred to as the most beautiful port in South Korea.
The geography consists of low mountains crossing over the south to the north on the Goseong peninsula. The mountain range stretches out from Byeokbang mountain (650m) on the boundary of northern Goseong county (Goseong-gun) to the south, encompassing Cheongae mountain (525m), Baral mountain (261m), Jeseokbong peak (279m) and Yongha mountain (461m) on Mireukdo island.

Uijeongbu (Korean pronunciation: [ɰidʑʌŋbu]) is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.
The city is located north of Seoul with many U.S. and Korean military bases for the defense of the Korean capital. The U.S. Second Infantry Division has established its headquarters in the city with main troops deployed in Dongducheon City. Despite it being known for its military presence, the area has boomed into a satellite community of Seoul, with shops, cinemas, restaurants and bars, PC bangs and DVD Bangs. In addition to US personnel, it is popluar with English hagwons, hence an expat community of English teachers. There are several mountains such as Mt. Dobong (Dobongsan), Mt. Surak, Mt. Soyo nearby, which are popular with residents living in Seoul Metropolitan area for climbing as leisure activity.
The city is famous for its budae jjigae (lit. "army base stew"). In the late 20th century, it stipulated that the dish be referred to as Uijeongbu jjigae to remove the military or war-time connotation in the name, though not many restaurants follow this guideline. Some restaurants have begun calling their product Uijeongbu budae jjigae. There is also what locals refer to as "buddaejjigae street" where there is a high concentration of buddaejjigae restaurants.

Uiwang
Uiwang is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It is one of many satellite cities that ring Seoul, making up the Seoul National Capital Area. Its largest immediate urban neighbor is Anyang (South Korea). The low peaks of the Gwangju Mountains shape the local landscape.
Rail transportation is an important part of Uiwang, which is home to the Korean Railroad Museum and Korea National Railroad College. Seoul Subway Line 1 passes through the city, as does the Gyeongbu Line railroad. In addition, a terminal of the Hanjin container shipping concern is located here.
Uiwang city developed considerably thanks to the expansion of the city of Anyang. Several districts are directly connected into Gunpo and Suwon. However, due to the fact that Anyang penitentiary is located at the outskirt of Anyang, which borders very closely to Ojeon-dong, Uiwang, which is just next to the borderline. Uiwang is quiet, peaceful, and beautiful town surrounded by many mountains and forests. Also, National road 1 and Seoul Express Beltway passes through Uiwang, making it center of transportation. Places such as city hall, Central library, Senior Welfare center, Health Center, and Teen centers are all located in Gocheon-dong. Many large corporations, such as Haitai confectionaries, Cheil Industries, and many other trade and logistics companies are located in Uiwang.

Monthly means range from 2.0 °C (35.6 °F) in January to 25.9 °C (78.6 °F) in August, with diurnal temperature ranges generally low. Its location on the Korean peninsula results in a seasonal lag, with the warmest days being in August and averaging very near 30 °C (86 °F). Precipitation is relatively low in the winter months, but is made up by the high rainfall falling from April to September.

Wonju is the most populous city in Gangwon province, South Korea.
Wonju is a city approximately 90 miles (140 km) east of Seoul and the capital can be reached within 1hr 30minutes by bus or train. Wonju is home to three major universities which attract many students from Seoul and elsewhere. They provide facilities to host sporting and musical events throughout the year. Wonju is also home to one of Korea's top basketball teams and games can be attended at very reasonable prices. It was the site of three crucial battles during the Korean War.
The city has an E-mart, as well as three movie theaters (Cinus, Lotte, and Primus) and a host of shops and outlets for most, if not all, fashions.
A new 250 km per hour KTX line had been planned between Seoul and Wonju via Pyeongchang for the 2018 Winter Olympics, however it was later revealed that this plan was never in place.

Yangju
Yangju is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Yangju is located south of Dongducheon and north of Uijeongbu not far from Seoul.
Yangju is home to the Jangheun Art Gallery which featuring six exhibition halls and includes subsidiary facilities such as outdoor performances and outdoor sculptures. Yangju also has an astronomical observatory and planetarium that is open to the public. The city also used to have a walking park featuring the film locations and constructed sets for the MBC Korean drama Daejanggeum, but this was closed permanently in late 2011 due to persistent vandalism.
There are 3 subway stations covered by Seoul Metropolitan Mass Transit System, it takes about 70 minutes from the center of Seoul to the first station located in Yangju. Yeongcheon
Yeongcheon is a city in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.
Yeongcheon is located 350 km southeast of Seoul, in the southeast of North Gyeongsang Province. It is on the Gyeongbu Expressway linking Seoul and Busan, and is also the junction of the Jungang and Daegu railway lines.
As a rural city, many of Yeongcheon's citizens farm to earn their living. The most well-known crop is the grape, which is generally large, seeded and often peeled before consuming (due to Koreans' concern over fertilizers and pesticides).
The Bohyeon Mountain Starlight Festival takes place in summer and is centered in the Bohyeon Mountain Observatory, which houses the third-largest telescope in Korea. In late summer, the Grape Festival takes place, hosting events such as the Miss Grape contest and a grape-eating competition. Yeongcheon is also well known for its Herbal Medicine Festival, which takes place in October and hosts traditional singing and lots of herbs.
Notable individuals born in the city include Goryeo period general Choe Mu-seon and Goryeo intellectual Jeong Mong-ju.

Yeongju
Yeongju is a city in the far north region of North Gyeongsang province in South Korea, covering 668.84 km2 with a population of 113,930 people according to the 2008 census. The city borders Bonghwa county to the east, Danyang county of North Chungcheong province to the west, Andong city and Yecheon county to the south, and Yeongwol county of Gangwon province to the north.
Buseoksa Temple in Yeongju is outstanding as a representative temple of the Avatamsaka Sect of Silla Buddhism. Sosu Seowon is the first Seowon (Confucian academy) to have had national financial support by way of tax exemptions.

Yeosu (Yeosu-si) is a city in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. Old Yeosu City, which was founded in 1949, Yeocheon City, founded in 1986, and Yeocheon County were merged into a new city in 1998.
The city of Yeosu consists of the Yeosu peninsula as well as 317 islands (49 inhabited, 268 uninhabited). Being midway along southern coast of South Korea, it is flanked by Namhae County in South Gyeongsang Province to the east with natural waterway, and the Bay of Suncheon to the west and northwest, the city of Suncheon sprawling along its banks. Thanks to the sea wind and warm current, Yeosu has cool summers and mild winters. Its ocean climate also brings Yeosu relatively longer springs and autumns than other regions. Yeosu is a city of history and loyalty where the headquarters of South Jeolla Province Navy Base was located, and the Great Admiral Yi Sun Shin invented the Geobukseon (turtle ship) to save the country while serving as the Navy Commander.

Yongin
Yongin is a major city in the Seoul National Capital Area, located in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. With a population of nearly 1 million, the city has developed abruptly since the 21st century, recording the highest population growth of any city in the country. Yongin is home to Everland and Caribbean Bay, South Korea's most popular amusement and water parks. The city is also home to the Korean Folk Village, the largest of its kind.
Yongin is a city almost as large as Seoul by area, consisting of the highly urbanized district of Suji-gu, the semi-urbanized district of Giheung-gu and the rural district of Cheoin-gu. Yongin's urbanized districts are located close to the capital and many commute to and from downtown Seoul in approximately 30-40 minutes by cars using the Gyeongbu Expressway or Yongin-Seoul Expressway, the Bundang Line subway or metropolitan buses. A new subway called the DX Line with a maximum speed of 110km/h will open in October 2011, which will allow Yongin residents to travel even faster to downtown Seoul. The existing Bundang Line will extend further south to Giheung Station to be opened by December 2011, which will connect to the EverLine Rapid Transit System that extends all the way to Everland.
