Live from Austin, TX. December 14, 1988 * Eric Johnson - Guitar * Kyle Brock - Bass Guitar * Tommy Taylor - drums LYRICS: "Take me from these earth bound chains I must find it once again The meaning of equality We will never hide in shame But forever guard the flame Burning for eternity Hundreds of nights Oh, my body cries A trail of tears Promises sometimes don't keep Freedom, put to sleep, and now I know (I lay my body down) Written with the words you tell Stories, a lesson in life from long ago Hundreds of nights Oh, my body cries A trail of tears Hold on, hold dear The time is near When you'll know why The spirit flies Hundreds of nights Oh, my body cries A trail of tears Children carried on your back Driven through the wind and cold How have you become so few But in the end, oh, I will see Your spiritual liberty Forever to be with you Hundreds of nights Oh, my body cries A trail of tears Hundreds of nights Oh, my body cries A trail of tears Hold on, hold dear The time is near When you'll know why The spirit flies"

We Shall Remain, Episode 3 Trail of Tears Part 1
This belongs to PBS, I do not own any part of it The Cherokee would call it Nu-No-Du-Na-Tlo-Hi-Lu, "The Trail Where They Cried." On May 26, 1838, federal troops forced thousands of Cherokee from their homes in the Southeastern United States, driving them toward Indian Territory in Eastern Oklahoma. More than 4000 died of disease and starvation along the way. For years the Cherokee had resisted removal from their land in every way they knew. Convinced that white America rejected Native Americans because they were "savages," Cherokee leaders established a republic with a European-style legislature and legal system. Many Cherokee became Christian and adopted westernized education for their children. Their visionary principal chief, John Ross, would even take the Cherokee case to the Supreme Court, where he won a crucial recognition of tribal sovereignty that still resonates. Though in the end the Cherokee embrace of "civilization" and their landmark legal victory proved no match for white land hunger and military power, the Cherokee people were able, with characteristic ingenuity, to build a new life in Oklahoma, far from the land that had sustained them for generations.

Protest against the Trail of Tears
Poet, essayist, and lecturer Ralph Waldo Emerson argued in an 1838 letter to President Martin Van Buren that the forced removal of the Cherokee Nation from its land in Georgia to modern-day Oklahoma was wrong. Emerson's was one of many voices protesting the government's treatment of the Cherokee people. This extended excerpt from his letter, read by Professor Amy Sturgis, demonstrates that people at the time were aware that what the US government proposed to do was a grave injustice and should not have happened. Emerson's and others' protests fell on deaf ears. The forced removal of the Cherokee Nation became known as the Trail of Tears and remains a blemish on US history.

The Trail of Tears: They Knew It Was Wrong
The Trail of Tears shouldn't have happened. People at the time knew that it was wrong, that it was illegal, and that it was unconstitutional, but they did it anyway. Historian Amy Sturgis explains why the forced removal of the Cherokee Nation to "Indian Territory" (modern-day Oklahoma) was wrong on both moral and legal grounds. How can the Trail of Tears provide lessons to us today? We can't look aside and ignore the Trail of Tears as an example of something that was just part of the mid-19th century mindset. It is a story about how a group that had power gained at the expense of a minority unable to defend itself. The Trail of Tears set precedents we can only hope to avoid repeating.

The Trail of Tears as Told by Johnny Cash - pt 1
Removal of the Cherokees Birthday Story of Private John G. Burnett, Captain Abraham McClellan's Company, 2nd Regiment, 2nd Brigade, Mounted Infantry, Cherokee Indian Removal, 1838-39. Children: This is my birthday, December 11, 1890, I am eighty years old today. I was born at Kings Iron Works in Sulllivan County, Tennessee, December the 11th, 1810. I grew into manhood fishing in Beaver Creek and roaming through the forest hunting the deer and the wild boar and the timber wolf. Often spending weeks at a time in the solitary wilderness with no companions but my rifle, hunting knife, and a small hatchet that I carried in my belt in all of my wilderness wanderings. On these long hunting trips I met and became acquainted with many of the Cherokee Indians, hunting with them by day and sleeping around their camp fires by night. I learned to speak their language, and they taught me the arts of trailing and building traps and snares. On one of my long hunts in the fall of 1829, I found a young Cherokee who had been shot by a roving band of hunters and who had eluded his pursuers and concealed himself under a shelving rock. Weak from loss of blood, the poor creature was unable to walk and almost famished for water. I carried him to a spring, bathed and bandaged the bullet wound, and built a shelter out of bark peeled from a dead chestnut tree. I nursed and protected him feeding him on chestnuts and toasted deer meat. When he was able to travel I accompanied him to the home of his ...

BD athlete Alex Honnold onsights two 5.13 cracks in the Utah desert
Black Diamond athlete Alex Honnold has skills—serious, bone-crusher rock climbing skills. Case in point: check out this video of Honnold onsighting two of the hardest 5.13 crack climbs in the Utah desert: Trail of Tears and No Way Jose. Lacking a second ascent since the late-great Jose Pereyra's FA back in 1998, No Way Jose had gained a hefty rep with a grade rumored to be in the 5.13+ range. Honnold, as he often does, coolly dispatched the route onsight with little fanfare, calling it one of the best cracks he'd ever done. Fortunately photographer Andrew Burr was there to capture the action and put together this video.

The Will of God Isn't...but Is...pt 2
This message will attempt to shed light on two things:
1. What the Will of God Isn’t
2. What the Will of God Is
First we must see the three major components of God’s Will:
LIVING IN THE WILL OF GOD WILL ALWAYS INVOLVE THESE THREE COMPONENTS:
1. Eternal Life
And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. John 17:3
To know the Will of God will involve having eternal life, which means to know God. So here is circular reasoning-To Know God’s Will You must Know God. To Know God you must have Eternal Life. To have eternal life, you must know God. To know God’s will is to know God.
2. Wisdom
that their hearts may be encouraged…to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. … Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, Colossians 2:2-6
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, Ephesians 1:17
Wisdom is “seeing Life from God’s Point of View.” Knowing God’s Will will always involve seeing Life from His point of View. After all, it is His Will!
Wisdom will always involve more of Jesus Christ in your life, for in Christ are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Living in the will of God will always involve walking in Jesus Christ.
Now since living in the Will of God involves Wisdom I need to point out how you get wisdom.
JAMES GIVES THIS ADVICE ABOUT GETTING WISDOM
Jas 1:5-8 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
You must want to see life from God’s point of view badly enough that you are willing to forsake everything this world has to offer. If you ask for wisdom, if you ask to live in God’s will, yet part of you wants this or wants that, contrary to God’s righteousness, then you will not get wisdom from God. You will not see life from His point of view. You will continue to be like the waves of the sea, tossing to and fro, lost from God’s will.
3. Faith
Living in the Will of God involves pleasing God. And Hebrews 11:6 says without Faith it is impossible to please God. By faith Moses left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible. Hebrews 11:27. Faith allows us to See God and what He wants to do with our lives.
Faith in your life will do Two Things:
1. Faith will allow you to see God behind everything that happens in your life.
2. Faith keeps you in a place where you are not sure what will happen next.
• If you can see the road ahead you don’t need to Trust God.
Living in the Will of God will always involve eternal life, wisdom and faith.
WHERE DO WE START?
In order to know what the Will of God is, we must know what it isn’t. Here are four common Falsehoods about the Will of God:
FALSEHOOD #1: God Wants Us to Know the Future
This is the biggest mistake we Christians make with regard to living in the Will of God.
Just because God has led a certain way does not guarantee the end result. We keep trying to look down the road so we can figure out the direction God is taking us.
It is rarely God’s will for you to know your entire personal future.
God doesn’t light the entire road. He promises just enough light for your step ahead.
Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
In fact they made little oil lamps that attached to your ankles. This would allow you to carry a load and still have light. But it was only enough light for one step.
So this verse pictures a man in total darkness walking along a dangerous trail. There is no moon in the sky. Darkness clings to him. His only light comes from the lamp strapped to his ankle. When he takes that step, what happens to the light? It goes forward one more step. The light is not bright enough to illuminate even five feet ahead.
Let’s face the truth–we want to know the future. At least we think we do. We want to know what is going to happen next year, so we can be ready in advance. But God doesn’t play that game with us.
The Bible says, “The secret things belong to the LORD our God” (Deuteronomy 29:29).
Does he know what will happen tomorrow? Yes, he does; but he’s not telling anyone else about it. Or to put it in familiar terms, does God have a blueprint for your life? Yes, he does; but there is no blueprint room where you can go to get a copy.
Suppose God were to offer you a folder with the details of your life (and for your loved ones also) for the next 10 years. Would you ta

Trans-Provence Day 4
Apologies for the visual glitches. The video is fine at this end, but has had technical problems when uploaded to Vimeo. We will endeavour to iron out these problems with the current video as soon as possible
Day four .
• start: Villars-Colmars (1180m)
• trailhead: Col des Champs (2080m)
• finish: Guillaumes (793m)
• riding distance: 41.49 km
• on-bike height gain: 965m
• on-bike height drop: 2434m
Many regular Trans-Provencers think that day four is the finest over all day of the weeks riding - starting with the huge decent from Col des Champs and including the unique Grey earth stage, if these two trails were all that you rode in a day , you'd consider it a fine days riding, but with two other exceptional trails included it really is a special day in the big Mountains
Special stage 11 is Col Des Champs then. This is a real test of riding - individually each of the many sections would be challenging but taken together it takes a strong technical rider , who can also onsite rock gardens and turn into the tightest switchbacks whilst ignoring the ever increasing exposure on either side of them, all of this of course is whilst the clock is ticking -it's a fifteen minute descent for the fastest riders.
Next Special Stage 12. The liaison stage itself is something quite unique. It's a slice of exposed rock that cuts it's way across the side of a Mountain with vertiginous 200 metre drops below you and an amazing viewing point down across the valley and to the stages ahead.
The stage itself continues initially in the same vein as the Liaison but with the risk to life removed a little if you fall off! More open rock face switchbacks lead to the lower pine forested trails and beautifully grippy sandy corners - with dust still hanging in the air from the rider in front.
From the feed station a fun liaison stage took riders across the valley floor before the fire road climb to the start of the Grey Earth.
Special Stage 13 The Grey Earth is unique to this part of the world. What looks like a combination of grey cement dust mixed in to tarmac that has then rolled down a hill like lava, has then set into long flowing ridge lines of incredibly grippy and fast rolling trail. For the riders there's a suggested line laid out for them but the opportunity to go "off-piste " and choose a quicker line is there for those that want it..
The final stage of the day is reached by steep bike a hike to open meadowland - before a steep switchback loam ride propels riders back to the valley floor once more and the chance to recuperate for the next day.
We haven't mentioned racing much other than results before today .Whilst the Trans-Provence is a race it's also just as importantly for many people taking part in a chance to ride amazing trails and to be in this beautiful part of the world.
Today however we had our first injuries and they've been with the fast guys. Ben cruz is out with either severely torn ligaments or a broken ankle - Steve Jones had a big crash and whilst Nico Vouilloz hasn't hurt himself - he lost time after tearing of his rear mech.
For the people that are racing tiredness is starting to show - Seven days of racing is partly a war of attrition.Silly mistakes are having consequences that could either cost the race, the stage, or stop them from finishing the event itself.

WASP: Trail of Tears
This is the 7th track from the album DYING FOR THE WORLD from WASP inspired by the Cherokee march of the XIX century, when they all had to move to Oklahoma. I want to share some Blackie Lawless's inner notes about this song: "Lyrically though it was inspired by one of the greatest atrocities the US government ever made to happen. After the great American Indian Nations were enslaved and exiled onto reservations and interment camps (basically prison camps) the majority of the Cherokee Nation were made to march on foot, under guard by the United States army, from the South East of the United States to Oklahoma. With little food and drinkable water and no medical attention, over 4000 died resulting from the march that took ten months. That march would be named 'Trail Of Tears'. The translation in native Cherokee language is "The Trail of Tears they cried". Another 5000 would die in the prison camps awaiting removal to Oklahoma but never made the "trail". Thanks Blackie, for your music, so many souls wanted to scream what you sing in this song and mostly in this album! I love you! Enjoy ((=

My personal interpretation of the song "Trail of Tears" from the album Dying For The World (2002) by WASP www.myspace.com www.myspace.com The Legend of The Cherokee Rose When the Trail of Tears started in 1838, the mothers of the Cherokee were grieving and crying so much, they were unable to help their children survive the journey. The Elders prayed for a sign that would lift the Mother's spirits to give them strength. The next day, a beautiful rose began to grow where each mother's tears fell. The rose is white for their tears; a gold center represents the gold taken from the Cherokee lands, and seven leaves on each stem for the seven Cherokee clans. The wild Cherokee Rose grows along the route of the trail of Tears into eastern Oklahoma today. "I saw the helpless Cherokees arrested and dragged from their homes, and driven at the bayonet point into the stockades. And in the chill of a drizzling rain on an October morning I saw them loaded like cattle or sheep into six hundred and forty-five wagons and started toward the west.... On the morning of November the 17th we encountered a terrific sleet and snow storm with freezing temperatures and from that day until we reached the end of the fateful journey on March the 26th 1839, the sufferings of the Cherokees were awful. The trail of the exiles was a trail of death. They had to sleep in the wagons and on the ground without fire. And I have known as many as twenty-two of them to die in one night of pneumonia due to ill ...
