Cork City - A Venice of the North
Reflections of Cork people and places on the river Lee on a clear Autumn morning, including some of the 20 bridges that span the river. Like many cities in Northern Europe, including Amsterdam, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Manchester, Cork is often referred to as a Venice of the North, "Why don't you ever hear the Venetians boasting they're the Cork of the south?" wonders Cork-born actor Niall Tobin, who recalls his schoolmaster at the North Mon telling him the following joke: At a meeting of Cork Corporation, a councillor proposed buying a gondola to glide up and down the Lee as a tourist attraction. "Sure why don't we get a pair of them," enjoined a second councillor, "and breed them." (or to put it another way - Gondolas are all very well, boy, but who's going to feed them, like?) Pure Cork. As The Boy Roy (Keane) puts it in his autobiography: "Irish by birth, Cork by the grace of God."

Cork City @ Christmas 2011 - A Short Film
I had this idea in my head for a few weeks. I wanted to head into the city, Cork, Ireland and film christmas lights and the atmosphere etc. Before even stepping out my door, I was confident I could create something good, this being my first ever short movie/film produced. However, after shooting, I lost that confidence until I started to put the clips together with the music and thought it came together very elegantly and put a smile on my face. As stated, this is the first time I've tried a short film and would appreciate any comments or constructive criticism to aid me and help me improve in the future. Gear: Canon 60D Canon 50mm 1.8 Sigma 10-20mm Manfrotto tripod and trigger head with slider. Edited with Vegas. Tune is: Your Body Is A Wonderland - John Mayer String Tribute - I do not own this song but thought it complimented the clips well. Cheers.

This parody was made to just show how out of control circuses can be and how they manipulate animals just for the commercial side of things. It's a joke to be honest and I hope this video highlights this. **The audio in this clip is not the original audio** It was mixed with the audio from this video. www.youtube.com The original elephant footage can be viewed here: www.youtube.com The audio of this clip was taken from this video, "Fenton - The Dog": www.youtube.com Amazing footage captured by Paul Dunbar as an unhappy elephant makes a break for it in Blackpool, Co Cork

Cork City Community Radio - Flooded
On the morning of 28th June 2012, 3cm of rain fell on Douglas Village and the surrounding hills in the space of 5 hours. All this water collected in the village and the lowest point was Douglas Village Shopping Centre, in which lies the studio of Cork City Community Radio which was flooded to the tune of 14 inches - just below the height of critical broadcasting equipment. We lost 6 computers which were at floor level and of course the carpets had to be dumped. The lower 2 feet of the partition walls had to be cut away and replaced. Otherwise, it is just a big big cleanup operation. The station is broadcasting today and tomorrow with music and prerecorded and repeated shows from last weekend and hopes to be back on air live next weekend for our normal schedule. Cork City Community Radio is a voluntary station, run by the community, for the community, broadcasting at weekends on 100.5FM. It receives minimal funding and survives on donations and fund raising. All contributions are gratefully received and are needed now more than ever. www.corkfm.ie

I sped up the footage to 1200x speed as I do not have an intervalometer and it gives a nice fluid motion to the video. This video was shot with a Canon 550D with the 18-55mm lens. ISO settings were 200 and no filters were used in the capture. This was edited as standard in FCP 6. www.facebook.com

Galway.com - IRONMAN 70.3
A 7am start would definitely be considered early by most people's standard but rising before the sun even has time to shine, to begin a 70.3 mile endurance race otherwise called Ironman, might just be called crazy! For some 2000 individual athletes and another 100 relay teams from 42 countries that was just the case on a wet and cold morning last Sunday the 4th of September.
The morning was considerably bitter and with choppy ocean conditions getting worst, the event organisers were forced to reduce the length of the swim for the athletes safety. It wasn't long though before the pro category said goodbye to ladies beach where a large crowd had gathered to watch this unique first time event and found themselves tested by Irish sea conditions for the first time. They were quickly followed by the other age groups and to no surprise they all arrived safely at Palmers Rock Strand beach.
From what looked like small specks in the ocean from the shore, emerged strong determined athletes who were now well on there way in what was to become a roughly 4 to 7 hour ordeal for most athletes. The rest of their day would be filled with a 90km cycle to Maam cross and back again with just less than a 400m climb, followed by a gruelling 13.1 mile run course which took athletes in to Galway city and gave them a chance to visit the famous Spanish arch.
The Athletes who made it to the finish line were greeted by Mike Reilly and Joanne Murphy who were the official commentators for the event. Mike from San Diego California is considered to be the voice of Ironman, having announced at over 1000 endurance events world wide and a triathlon athlete himself, he has a great knowledge of the events history and what it takes to compete at this level. Joanne who is originally from Cork, has lived in Galway since 2004 and since joining the Galway triathlon club in 2009 has taken part in numerous sprint and Olympic triathlons, Edinburgh and Connemara half marathons and Gaelforce west. Joanne was set to take part in Ironman Galway, which also would have been her first half Ironman until injury forced her to withdraw from this years event. Joanne is also very involved with charity and with her gift for the gab and Mikes charism they helped keep the crowds cheering while the athletes arrived at the finish line over several hours.
The first person to cross the finish line back in Salthill was Swiss professional Mike Aigroz, who finished in a time of 3 hours, 50 minutes and 12 seconds, while Irishman Owen Cummins was third in the event with a time of 4 hours, 1 minute and 26 seconds. Some more familiar faces to cross the line included Gráinne Seoighe, Kathryn Thomas, Ray Darcy and Keith Duffy from Boyzone who along with another 100 athletes completed the Ironman to raise funds for Irish Autism Action.
After receiving their finishers t-shirts and long awaited Ironman 70.3 medal, Roy Brennan and the fine people from ARTC or Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Certified were on hand to give athletes a well need rub down. Food and drinks were also supplied for all the athletes to help them recover from the long day. The party continued that night in the Galway Bay hotel where the awards ceremony took place and entertainment was provided by serveral acts which included "Trad on the prom" and Gerard Fahy who was the musical director for Lord of the Dance.
The event was a huge success for Galway and for Ironman, with it being one of the quickest sell out first time events for Ironman. Mike Reilly noted also that the organisation of the event was particularly impressive on E&R; Events part seeing as it was the first time Ironman had been to Ireland and that he was convinced that the event was here to stay.
