Marc Preston Webb^[1] (born August 31, 1974) is an American music video, short film and major motion picture director. He made his directorial debut with the 2009 romantic comedy-drama (500) Days of Summer and has recently directed the upcoming 2012 Spider-Man reboot The Amazing Spider-Man.

Life and career[link]

Webb was born in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of Margaret Ruth (née Stocker) and Norman Lott Webb, who works in math education at the University of Wisconsin.^[1][2] When he was eighteen months old, Webb's family moved to Madison, Wisconsin, where he was raised.^[3][4] He graduated from Madison West High School, and subsequently attended Colorado College, from which he graduated with an English degree.^[3][5]

His feature length debut, (500) Days of Summer, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, was released in July 2009 to an extremely positive critical reception.^[6] In January 2010, Columbia Pictures hired Webb to direct The Amazing Spider-Man, a reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise, scheduled to be released in 2012 and starring Andrew Garfield.^[7][8]

Webb is signed to DNA in Hollywood, California and Academy Productions Ltd in the United Kingdom.

Webb's signature is a white lamb, which has appeared in a few of his videos. In Brand New's "Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades" video, the lamb appears on the door before Jesse Lacey enters the bar. Emily Jean "Emma" Stone (born November 6, 1988) is an American actress.

Stone was a cast member of the TV series Drive, and made her feature film debut in the comedy Superbad (2007). She appeared in The House Bunny (2008) and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009). She then starred in the horror-comedy Zombieland and the indie comedy Paper Man in 2009. In 2010, Stone voiced the character Mazie in Marmaduke, and starred in the high school comedy Easy A, which earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. In 2011, she starred in the films Crazy, Stupid, Love. and The Help, both of which were well received by critics and commercial successes. Stone will play Gwen Stacy in the Amazing Spider-Man film, a reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise.

Stone was born in Scottsdale, Arizona, the daughter of Krista (née Yeager), a homemaker, and Jeff Stone, a contractor.^[1] She has a brother, who is two years her junior.^[2] Stone's paternal grandfather was of Swedish descent, and his family's surname was anglicized to "Stone" when immigrating to the U.S. through Ellis Island; some of her ancestors also lived in Pennsylvania Dutch Country.^[3]

While growing up, she was a member of the Valley Youth Theatre, a regional theater in Phoenix, Arizona, where she appeared in her first stage production, The Wind in the Willows, at the age of 11.^[4] Stone attended Sequoya Elementary School and then Cocopah Middle School for sixth grade. She was home schooled for two years, at which time she appeared in 16 productions at Valley Youth Theatre, including: A Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tail, The Princess and the Pea, Cinderella, The Wiz, Titanic, Honk!, The Little Mermaid, Schoolhouse Rock Live!, Alice in Wonderland, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,^[4][5] and performed with the theater's improv comedy troupe.^[6]

Stone attended Xavier College Preparatory,^[4] an all-girl Catholic high school, as a freshman for one semester. She gave a PowerPoint presentation to her parents, set to the Madonna song "Hollywood", to convince them to let her move to California for an acting career.^[7] She dropped out of high school, and in January 2004, moved with her mother to a Los Angeles apartment, at the age of 15.^[8] She was then home schooled, so that she could audition during the day.^[9]

Stone launched a career in television after winning the role of Laurie Partridge on In Search of the New Partridge Family (2004), a VH1 talent competition reality show.^[10] The resulting show, The New Partridge Family (2005), only produced a pilot episode. Stone next had appearances in the television series Medium, Malcolm in the Middle and Lucky Louie. In 2007, she had a regular role on the Fox drama Drive, playing Violet Trimble, until the series was cancelled. She also auditioned for Heroes, and overheard in the casting room "On a scale of 1 to 10, you are an 11" — the casting directors were referring to Hayden Panettiere, who was cast as Claire Bennet instead. Stone called this experience "rock bottom."^[11]

Stone made her feature film debut in the 2007 teen comedy Superbad, playing Jules, the love interest of lead character Seth (Jonah Hill). In 2008, she appeared in the comedy The Rocker, with Rainn Wilson. Stone played Amelia, the bass guitarist in a band featuring singer Teddy Geiger. Stone learned to play bass for the role. Also that year, Stone appeared in The House Bunny, starring Anna Faris, alongside Katharine McPhee, Kat Dennings, Rumer Willis, and Colin Hanks.^[12] Stone played the president of a sorority and sang on a single from the film, "I Know What Boys Like," a cover version of the 1982 song by The Waitresses.^[13]

In 2009, Stone appeared in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, a romantic comedy directed by Mark Waters, the director of Mean Girls, starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner.^[14] Stone played "The Ghost of Girlfriends Past," a takeoff of the Ghost of Christmas Past from Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. She starred in the horror/comedy Zombieland, along with Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg. The project began shooting in Atlanta in February 2009.^[15] Stone played Wichita, a survivor/con artist from Wichita, Kansas, traveling across the U.S. with her younger sister Little Rock (Abigail Breslin).^[16] Stone also starred in Paper Man in 2009, alongside Jeff Daniels, Ryan Reynolds and Lisa Kudrow, directed by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.^[17] She played Abby, a babysitter that Daniels' character hires after moving to Long Island.^[18] Stone began filming the independent comedy on November 11, 2008, in Montauk, New York, using well-known local locations.^[19]

In 2010, Stone had a voice role in Marmaduke, a film adaptation of the long-running comic strip about a Great Dane.^[20] She voiced Marmaduke's friend, Mazie, a tomboyish Australian Shepherd.^[21] Stone landed her first leading role that year, starring with Amanda Bynes as a high school student in Easy A, a comedy directed by Will Gluck.^[22] Her character scandalizes her teachers and more conservative religious classmates after a false rumor circulates that she is sexually promiscuous.^[23] The script contrasts the novel The Scarlet Letter and its heroine, Hester Prynne, to the life of the protagonist in the film. Stone read the script before the project was optioned for production, and kept an eye on it along with her manager until preparations were made.^[24] She was attracted to the script because it was "funny and sweet" and her character was "fantastic from the first read" who was "fleshed [..] out so much in the script".^[24] When she found out that the film had gone into production, she met with Gluck to express her enthusiasm about the project.^[24] A few months later, the audition process started and Stone met again with Gluck to be one of the first actresses to audition.^[24] Stone was nominated for the 2011 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for her role.^[25]

Stone appeared at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards on September 12, 2010, and introduced Linkin Park. She stated in 2008 that she would eventually like to venture into film production, producing her own films, and that her dream was to appear on Saturday Night Live.^[12] Stone hosted the late-night sketch comedy show on October 23, 2010, and again on November 12, 2011.^[26][27]

Stone appeared in Friends With Benefits, starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, and directed by Will Gluck. The sex comedy began filming in July 2010, in New York, and was released in July 2011.^[28] She also starred in Crazy, Stupid, Love. that year, alongside Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling and Marisa Tomei. The Warner Bros. film, about a husband (Carell) with marital problems and difficulties with his children, began shooting on April 16, 2010, in Los Angeles and was released on July 29, 2011.^[29] Stone starred in The Help, an adaptation of Kathryn Stockett's best-selling novel of the same name, a period piece set in Jackson, Mississippi, in the 1960s, which was released in August 2011. She plays Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, an aspiring writer, and employed a Southern dialect for the role.^[18]

Stone joined the voice cast of The Croods, a 3D computer animated caveman comedy by DreamWorks Animation. She will voice the role of Eep, the oldest daughter of Grug (Nicolas Cage) and Ugga (Catherine Keener). Ryan Reynolds voices Gy, the love interest to Stone's character.^[30] The film is scheduled for release on March 22, 2013.

She stars in the comedic short film, "Veronica," alongside Kieran Culkin, directed by Griffin Dunne.^[31] The short is a comedy segment that is part of the anthology film, Movie 43, featuring Kate Winslet, Gerard Butler, Hugh Jackman, Uma Thurman, Halle Berry, and others.^[32] The feature-film was produced by the Farrelly brothers^[1] and directed by Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill and Steve Carr.^[32]

Stone will star as the female lead in The Amazing Spider-Man, a reboot by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Entertainment of the Spider-Man film series.^[33] She plays Gwen Stacy, the 17-year-old love interest of Peter Parker.^[34] Marc Webb is directing the film, which has a release date of July 3, 2012.^[33] The film went into production in December 2010, and was scheduled to last through April 2011.^[35] Stone was considered for the lead in a reboot of 21 Jump Street, alongside Superbad co-star Jonah Hill.^[36] She did not take the role however, after signing on to Spider-Man.^[37]

Stone joined the cast of The Gangster Squad, a film by Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer. She will again play opposite Ryan Gosling in the ensemble crime drama, which also stars Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Peña. Stone plays Jean, a femme fatale caught in a love triangle with Gosling and Penn's character, mobster Mickey Cohen.^[38]

Stone will again work with writer/director Will Gluck, starring in and executive producing an untitled comedy for Screen Gems.^[39] The film studio has given Gluck and Stone full discretion in developing a new project, after the success of Easy A.^[40] She will also star in Little White Corvette, a comedy about a pair of would-be drug dealing siblings, written by Michael Diliberti.^[41] Stone will film the project in Miami in mid 2012.^[42]

Although known as a redhead, Stone is naturally a blonde. She landed her first role as a teenager after dyeing her hair dark brown.^[1] Film producer Judd Apatow had her change from a brunette to a redhead for her role in Superbad.^[6] She returned to blonde for her role in The Amazing Spider-Man.^[40]

She began dating actor Andrew Garfield after meeting him on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man.^[43][44]

Stone's low-pitched husky voice is a result of having baby colic, a condition of constant screaming as an infant, resulting in the development of nodules. She has calluses on her vocal cords as an adult.^[45]

Stone chose the name "Emma" when she registered for the Screen Actors Guild as the name "Emily Stone" was already taken. Her family and friends call her Emily.^[40]

Stone moved from Los Angeles to Greenwich Village, New York City in 2009.^[7]

Rhys Ifans (Welsh pronunciation: [r̥ɨːs ˈivans]; born Rhys Owain Evans;^[3] 22 July 1967)^[3][4] is a Welsh actor and musician. He is known for his portrayal of characters such as Spike in Notting Hill and Jed Parry in Enduring Love and as a member of the Welsh rock groups Super Furry Animals and The Peth. Ifans also appeared as Xenophilius Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1, and will appear as Dr. Curt Connors/The Lizard in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man. He played Edward de Vere, Earl of Oxford, in Anonymous. Ifans gained fame in the United States as the gambling footballer turned American football player Nigel Gruff in the 2000 film The Replacements.

Ifans was born in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales, in 1967, the son of Beti Wyn (née Davies), a nursery school teacher, and Eirwyn Evans, a primary school teacher.^[5][6] His first language is Welsh.^[7] Ifans grew up in Ruthin, North Wales,^[8] and received his primary education at Ysgol Pentrecelyn, where his mother worked, before attending Ysgol Maes Garmon, a Welsh language secondary school in Mold, Flintshire, where he sat his O levels and A levels. He also attended youth acting schools at Theatr Clwyd, Mold and trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

In 1990, Ifans presented Stwnsh (Welsh for "Mash"), an anarchic children's quiz programme. In total 31 fifteen-minute programmes were broadcast on Welsh-language TV channel S4C.^[9]

Ifans appeared in many Welsh-language television programmes before embarking on his film career, as well as performing at the Royal National Theatre, London and the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester.

He was briefly lead vocalist of the rock band Super Furry Animals before they released any records.^[10]

After his role as Jeremy Lewis in the Swansea-based movie Twin Town (1997), he gained international exposure in his role as the slovenly roommate Spike in the British film Notting Hill (1999). According to the DVD's commentary, Ifans did not wash or brush his teeth, in preparation for the role. He played Adrian, the pompous eldest brother in Little Nicky (2000).

His film roles include: Eyeball Paul in Kevin and Perry Go Large (2000), Nigel in The Replacements (2000), Iki in The 51st State (2001), William Dobbin in Vanity Fair (2004), and Vladis Grutas in Hannibal Rising (2007). He played Jed Parry in the film version of Ian McEwan's Enduring Love and the lead role in Danny Deckchair (2003) as Danny Morgan.

In 2002 he gained some controversy in the British media for his alleged support of Welsh nationalist group Meibion Glyndŵr, a militant group who support violence against English home owners in the Welsh heartlands. This was mainly because of some comments he made in an interview conducted by Mariella Frostrup for The Observer newspaper.^[7] In 2005, Ifans won a BAFTA for his portrayal of comedian Peter Cook in the TV film Not Only But Always. Later that year he made a guest appearance for the rock band Oasis in the video for their single "The Importance of Being Idle" for which he accepted their award for Video Of the Year at the 2005/2006 NME Awards. He has also made appearances in the music videos for "God! Show Me Magic", and "Hometown unicorn" by the Super Furry Animals, "Mulder & Scully" by Catatonia, and "Mama Told Me Not To Come" by Tom Jones and the Stereophonics.

In December 2006, he returned to the London stage in Michael Grandage's production Don Juan In Soho at the Donmar Warehouse (run ended 10 February 2007). He had appeared previously at the Donmar in 2003's Accidental Death Of An Anarchist. Earlier stage work includes Hamlet at Theatre Clwyd, A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Regent's Park Theatre and Under Milk Wood and Volpone at the Royal National Theatre.

On 16 July 2007, he received an Honorary Fellowship from Bangor University in north Wales, for services to the film industry.^[11]

Since 2007 Ifans has sung with Welsh psychedelic rock band The Peth (Peth is Welsh for `Thing'), featuring Super Furry Animals' Dafydd Ieuan, which played a number of concert dates in South Wales and in London in the autumn of 2008. The band played its first date outside London or Wales on 28 September 2008 at the Southampton Soul Cellar.

Ifans revealed on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, on 27 March 2009, that he would appear in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. He played Xenophillius Lovegood, editor of the wizarding magazine the Quibbler and father of the eccentric Luna Lovegood. In that same interview, he also stated that he would be playing the title role in Mr. Nice, based on the life of Howard Marks who was released from prison for helping illiterate criminals to read and write, so they could get an education behind bars. He played a villain in Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, which also starred Emma Thompson and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

On 11 October 2010, the Associated Press confirmed that Ifans would portray the villain in the next Spider-Man movie, with the villain being revealed as The Lizard a few days later.^[12]

Personal life[link]

Ifans's brother, Llŷr Evans, is also an actor. They starred together in the Welsh produced film Twin Town. Rhys was romantically linked to actress Sienna Miller,^[13] and has a swallow tattoo on his right wrist to match hers.^[14] In June 2008 it was reported that Miller had ended the relationship with Ifans just a few months after they had become engaged.^[15]

During 2011 Comic Con, Ifans was arrested for misdemeanour battery by San Diego police after allegedly pushing a guard prior to speaking on a guest panel.^[16] In August 2011, the local District Attorney's office announced that Ifans would not be charged due to lack of evidence.^[17]

He also has an older brother who is a doctor.^[9][10] Garfield was raised in Surrey, England and was a gymnast during his early years.^[7][10] He attended Priory Preparatory School in Banstead and later City of London Freemen's School in nearby Ashtead, before training at the Central School of Speech and Drama, from which he graduated in 2004.^[10][11]

Garfield started taking acting classes in Guildford when he was twelve, and appeared in a youth theatre production of Bugsy Malone.^[9] He also joined a small youth theatre workshop group in Epsom, and began working primarily as a stage actor. In 2004, he won a MEN Theatre Award for his performance in Kes at Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre (where he also played Romeo the year after), and won the outstanding newcomer award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards 2006.^[12]

Garfield made his British television debut in 2005, appearing in the Channel 4 teenage drama Sugar Rush.^[12] In Summer 2007, he grabbed public attention when he appeared in the third series of Doctor Who, in the episodes "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks". In October 2007, he was named one of Variety's "10 Actors to Watch",^[13] and in November 2007, appeared in the ensemble drama Lions for Lambs, playing an American university student. Also that month, he starred in the Channel 4 drama Boy A, for which he won the 2008 BAFTA for Best Actor. In 2008, he had a minor role in the film The Other Boleyn Girl,^[13] and was named one of the shooting stars at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Garfield appeared in Vogue's December 2009 issue, modeling alongside Lily Cole, in a photographed retelling of Hansel and Gretel. Also that year, Garfield had a supporting role in the Terry Gilliam film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus^[8] and the Red Riding television trilogy. In 2010 he co-starred in the British film based on the novel by Japanese-born British author Kazuo Ishiguro, Never Let Me Go,^[14] as well as in David Fincher's The Social Network, alongside Brenda Song, Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg, about the founders of Facebook. For the film, he received two BAFTA award nominations (for "Best Actor in a Supporting Role" and the "BAFTA Rising Star"). On 14 December 2010, The Social Network received six nominations for the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards, four of which it won, including Best Motion Picture-Drama, on 16 December 2011. Garfield was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.^[15]

On 5 January 2010 Garfield appeared briefly as Terry Gilliam's assistant in the Arcade Fire webcast pre-show at Madison Square Garden. On 12 September 2010, he co-presented at the 2010 MTV VMAs with Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake.^[16]

In March 2012, Andrew made his Broadway debut as Biff Loman in the revival of Death of a Salesman, directed by Tony winner Mike Nichols at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The production also stars Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman and Tony Award nominee Linda Emond.^[17] Garfield has been nominated for a Tony Award as a best featured actor in a play for the role.^[18]

Garfield has been chosen to play Spider-Man opposite Emma Stone in Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man.^[19][20][21] Filming began in December 2010, and the film's release date is scheduled for July 3 2012. He also said that he wants Spider-Man to be in the sequel of The Avengers (2012 film).
