Musa Anter, also known by nickname "Ape Musa" (Kurdish: Apê Musa, literally "Uncle Musa"), (1920, Nusaybin—September 20, 1992, Diyarbakır), was a dissident Kurdish-Turkish writer and activist.[1] He was a nationalist intellectual and murdered in September 1992.[2] He was born in the Eskimağra (Zîvîng ) village (Nusaybin District of the Mardin Province). He completed his primary education in Mardin, and then studied at junior and senior high school in Adana. When he was a student, he had been to Syria during his summer holidays and got acquaintance with Kurdish nationalist intellectuals[3] such as Celadet and Kamuran Bedir Khan, Kadri and Ekrem Cemilpaşa, Dr. Nafiz, Nuri Zaza, "Baytar" Nuri (Dersimi), Kadri Can, Osman Sabri, Haco Axa and his son Hasan, Emînê Perîxanê's son Şikriye Emîn, Mala Elyê Unus, and Cîgerxûn.[4] Abdülkadir Aygan, who was PKK militant and surrendered in 1985,[5] then recruited as part of the first staff of JİTEM (the Turkish Gendarmerie's Intelligence and Counter-terrorism Service)[5], said he had been part of a JİTEM unit, along with a "Hamit" from Şırnak, which had assassinated Musa Anter.[6] Other sources claim that the perpetrators were PKK defectors Murat Ipek, on orders from Mahmut Yıldırım (alias "Yeşil"),[7] or Yeşil himself.[8] Turkey was found guilty of this murder in 2006 by the European Court of Human Rights (EHCR), who sentenced Turkey to a fine of 28500 euros.[9]

Therefore, the Syriac Universal Alliance (SUA) offered 100 Arameans from all over the world a unique experience to relive their childhood and bring up memories with their fellow people in the land that has given birth to them and/or their (grand)parents. In celebrating Passion Week and Easter from 19-26 April 2011, the SUA offered them the chance to experience a spiritual and cultural pilgrimage in Tur-Abdin and its surroundings in Southeast Turkey. Ancient places that were visited include, for instance, Gaziantep, Adiyaman, Urfa (Edessa/Urhoy), Harran, Mardin, Midyat and a villages in Tur-Abdin. For most Arameans who originate from this region, this unique experience turned out to be no less than the pilgrimage to the Holy City of Jerusalem! Additionally, a LIVE Gala was held in Midyat which was broadcast by Suryoyo Sat on Easter Sunday (24 April 2011). It attracted about 600-700 Arameans from the Mardin province, especially from Tur-Abdin. All of this and more comes back in the beautiful and moving documentary created ...

Mardin (Saffron monastery)
Mardin (Kurdish: Mêrdîn) is a city in southeastern Turkey. The capital of Mardin Province is known for its Arab-style architecture, and for its strategic location on a rocky mountain overlooking the plains of northern Syria. Mardin has a very mixed population, Turks, Arabs and Kurds all represent large groups. Mardin is an Aramaic word and means "fortresses". The earliest settlers in Mardin were Assyrian Christians, arriving in the 3rd century AD; in fact, the old Assyro-Babylonian religion existed in Mardin until the 18th century. Most Syriac Orthodox churches and monasteries in the city, which are still active today, date from the 5th century AD, such as the Deyrülzafarân Monastery shown in the video. Mor Hananyo Monastery is an important Syriac Orthodox monastery near the city of Mardin, which is better known by its nickname, the 'Saffron Monastery'. This name is derived from the warm colour of its stone. The monastery acquired its present, official name from Saint Hananyo (the Syriac equivalent of Ananias, which is its Greek form), who was Metropolitan of Kfartuta from 793 to 800. Saint Hananyo renovated the monastery 793. Founded in 493 AD, the monastery was formerly the seat of the patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church from 1160 until 1932 where it relocated to Damascus.
