Moods and Attitudes: Treatment Options for Depression
Life is full of emotional ups and downs. But when the "down" times are long lasting or interfere with your ability to function, you may be suffering from a common, serious illness—depression. What is depression and what causes it? Why are women more prone to depression during different life stages than men - teen years, adulthood, postpartum, menopause? In this program, Heather Hall, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry, UCSF, explores traditional treatment options as well as the new thinking about alternative treatments. Because suicide is so final and so tragic, it's very important for psychiatrists to err on the side of safety. But I want to talk about the fact that suicide is not necessarily an abnormal thought. It's not necessarily a sign of major illness. In some ways it's perfectly natural for people to have thoughts that life is too overwhelming when something very bad has just happened. And the important thing is to be able to talk about ...

Depressed Because of Grades? How Mood Influences Grades
FastStudySkills.com - Say you're in the middle of a video game, and you've gotta use the toilet. You're in the middle of fighting the big boss of the game. You're just seconds away to beating the snot out of him. You can taste victory. Its so close you forget about the bathroom and keep blasting away. Until, of course, your bladder tells you to finally stop and take care of it or you'll have serious problems in the future. That's when you realize you can actually pause your game and take care of your biological needs. So what was this story about? What matters is how strong your feelings are towards a goal - so it makes you finally do something towards it. To be able to love studying and get good grades, you have to have a reason why as strong as finally hitting the pause button and taking care of yourself.

Severely Depressed Social Phobic 37 Year Old Virgin Will Need Medication to Treat Mood Disorder
The following links are to Amar Andalkar's trip reports. I want to be like this man! Why? He is like Jesus when it comes to ski mountaineering and adventure. People see him like Jesus. He has friends, many female friends and has no problems making friends. Why? Because he doesn't have a reputation for being a loser and a bum like I do. He has a degree in Physics and he has proven himself. He knows how to talk and socialize and has respect. My dream is to be like Amar Andalkar, Jesus. I predict Amar will be married in less than 4 years because of his major adventures and the fact he has a physics degree! He will be married very soon. Women love Amar, and his trip reports prove it! I wish I could have women hug me, hold my hand, pat me on the back and be willing to be in my company on such an adventure. Maybe in my next life? www.turns-all-year.com www.turns-all-year.com Just look at all the comments he gets plus all the respect and thoughts of inspiration. He is like a God. People love this man! The thing is, this man knows me and he doesn't like me very much. I could tell by his body language and the way he responded to me when I did meet him on the mountain, by random, he did not like me very much. He remembered when I skied 157 days in a row, so he knows of my reputation. He was not impressed, nor did I get any remote vibe of any potential ski outing with this hardcore ski mountaineering athlete. If he does not like me, then many other people may not like me. Overcoming Depression
In this acclaimed program four people will talk about their depression and actually teach the techniques that they have used to help overcome it. These techniques are based on cognitive behavioural therapy, a very successful and popular form of therapy for many types of depression. Additional insight is given by Professor Philip Boyce, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Sydney. The program is presented by well known comedian Spike Milligan, who despite suffering from severe and debilitating depression for much of his time, has managed to lead a very full and creative life. Cognitive behaviour therapy involves common sense and practical notions of how to recover from depression, yet it is based on well grounded psychological research. It has proven to be a successful treatment for many forms of depression, and this video teaches how to use these tools that have worked so well for other people. This program was developed as a self help tool for sufferers of depression, and for use by health professionals in clinical and group situations. It has also been successfully used in the training of health professionals. While providing you with useful and practical techniques that will help you to master depression, you will also get to know the people in the video. The program gives insight into depression and hope for a way out. * What is depression? * What is cognitive behavioural therapy? * Daily mood monitor and daily thoughts diary * Meditation, focusing and imagery ...
