Battle of Sudomer - Hussites
Battle scenes from an old Czech historical movie - Jan Zizka, 1955 (Battle of Sudomer) The Battle of Sudomer was fought on the 25th of March, 1420, between Catholic and Hussite forces. The Hussites were led by Brenek of Svihov - who was killed in battle - and Jan Zizka of Trocnov, whose forces proved victorious. This was the second major battle of the Hussite Wars. Though outnumbered 5 to 1 and comparatively ill-equipped, facing heavily armoured knights, the Hussites had fortified their surroundings ingeniously. Their flank was protected by war wagons loaded with arquebusiers, and many large ponds and marshy areas surrounded the Hussite infantry - ground which the armoured knights could not hope to cross. One thousand Johannites from Strakonice led by Jindrich of Hradec - killed in battle - attacked war wagons placed on a slim dam, with huge casaulties but no success. After that, another thousand armoured knights, led by Peter von Konopischt of Sternberg - killed in the Battle of Vitkov Hill later that year - rushed a weakly held side of the Hussite formation, but were mired in marshy ground. They dismounted in order to progress, but soon found themselves mired once more. Following this, the Hussite light infantry equipped with flails were able to easily finish the cavalrymen. The battle ended with the advance of night and fog, during which Zizka and the Hussite forces were able to escape. Though the Catholic Royalists were not entirely defeated, the fact the Hussites ...

JAN ZIZKA (1955) - Battle of Sudomer 1
The first regular battle of Hussite Wars took place on March 25, 1420. en.wikipedia.org The Battle of Sudomĕř was fought on March 25, 1420, between Catholic and Hussite forces. The Hussites were led by Břeněk from Švihov (killed in the battle) and Jan Žižka, and they were victorious. This was the second famous battle of the Hussite Wars. The first battle, the Battle of Nekmer, was more of a Hussite retreat than a battle. The Royalist forces pursued the Hussites, and this is why this battle happened. At the beginning of battle, the Hussites were attacked under a white flag of truce. However, the Hussites had fortified the area. One flank was protected by the war wagons, and the others were protected by ponds Markovec, Škaredý (let-out pond) and Prostřední. One thousand Johannites from Strakonice led by Jindřich from Hradec (killed in the battle) attacked war wagons placed on a slim dam with huge casaulties, but no success. After that another thousand "iron lords" of the Royalist cavalry led by Peter von Konopischt from Sternberg (killed in the battle Vitkov 1420) rushed a weakly held side of the enemy formation, but mired in a let-out pond, so they dismounted, but mired again. After that, the Hussite light infantry with armoured flails could finish them easilly. The battle ended with the advance of night and fog. Zizka was then able to escape. In the end, this was the first success out of many that the Hussites would have. The Hussite victory was amazing. Only 400 hussites ...

OMG Hussites, Part 1
Hey sucka', do you want to look at my derpy-ass mug for four and a half minutes while I pretend to be like six different people? Do you want to learn an obscure, 100% historical, and totally rawkin' story about some badass medieval rebels along the way? Of course you do. These smart bastards shirked a corrupt medieval Catholic Church. They shirked off three separate Popes. They shirked off all of Europe. They went looking for fights, and they always came out on top. They're the goddamn Hussites, and this is their story. [And yes, next time I'll try and get better equipment to fix the syncing problems.]

The Hussite Movement in Bohemia
A video about the Hussite movement in South Bohemia, Czech Republic. The Hussites were followers of the teachings of theologian Jan Hus (John Huss) who was burnt at the stake as a heretic. Their one-eyed general Jan Zizka turned his followers from inexperienced peasant farmers into a formidable fighting force. The music is one of their hymns - "Warriors of God". The Video was created by Czechtours.co.uk who are offering a 7 night guided tour in the footsteps of the Hussites on www.czechtours.co.uk

Hussitenlied (Hussites' Song) - original composition
1432 came the Hussites to Bernau (near Berlin). I dedicate this song to these first fighters for freedom and human rights in the history of Europe. I have written the music with Capella. The Midi file is played with a virtual organ and a virtual choir by Native Instruments (Kontakt 4). The photos I've made while the Hussites-Festival in Bernau in the Church St. Marien (14. century.).

OMG Pilot Video [The First Word on Hussites]
So in the early 1400's there were some pretty big clashes in central Europe. They were pretty important, and led into things like the reformation, the protestant states, guns, and European domination of the world. Not a lot of people know about them. Here's a lil something to think about, part 1.

John Hus - biography
Jan Hus (c. 1369 -- 6 July 1415) was a Czech priest, philosopher, reformer, and master at Charles University in Prague. After John Wycliffe, the theorist of ecclesiastical Reformation, Hus is considered the first Church reformer (living prior to Luther, Calvin, and Zwingli). He is famed for having been burned at the stake for heresy against the doctrines of the Catholic Church, including those on ecclesiology, the Eucharist, and other theological topics. Hus was a key predecessor to the Protestant movement of the sixteenth century, and his teachings had a strong influence on the states of Europe, most immediately in the approval for the existence of a reformist Bohemian religious denomination, and, more than a century later, on Martin Luther himself. Between 1420 and 1431, the Hussite forces defeated five consecutive papal crusades against followers of Hus. Their defence and rebellion against Roman Catholics became known as the Hussite Wars. A century later, as many as 90% of inhabitants of the Czech lands were non-Catholic and followed the teachings of Hus and his successors.

a KRATER (in Greek: κρατήρ, kratēr, from the verb κεράννυμι, keránnymi, meaning "I mix") was a vase used to mix wine and water. At a Greek symposium, kraters were placed in the center of the room. They were quite large, so they were not easily portable when filled. Thus, the wine-water mixture would be withdrawn from the krater with other vessels. In fact, Homer's Odyssey[1] describes a steward drawing wine from a krater at a banquet and then running to and fro pouring the wine into guests' drinking cups. An interesting sidenote to this is that the modern Greek word now used for undiluted wine, krasi (κρασί), originates from this mixing of wine and water in kraters. Kraters were glazed on the interior to make the surface of the clay more suitable for holding water, and possibly for aesthetic reasons, since the interior could easily be seen....

A short clip from a series of 5 animation clips MAGNI (a tourism project) representing religious perspectives and traditions and corresponding sacral sights in the Czech Republic.
This very clip brings you a quick look at a famous historical battle of the Hussites wars era, represented by a leader Jan Žižka and his fellow citizens as they incidentally encountered catholic Crusaders by an empty pond close to Sudoměř on their way from Pilsen to a newly established fortress in southern Bohemia - the future city of Tábor.
Since animation has such unique sensitivity, even a controversial events and circumstances can be portrayed with glamour and dignity with a little touch of sense of humor and exaggeration ..
