google gmail mail merge for gdocs as pdf
We are demonstrating simple way to use Mail Merge using Gmail, Google Document,a nd Google Spreadsheet. The spreadsheet acts as your database, the Gogole Document is the template that you use as a template, and gmail is how it sends. Each person receives a single email, customized exactly to them. So using this method will send 1 email per recipient (keep in mind Google has a 500 email per day limit) This mail merge takes data on the spreadsheet and merges it to a document template, and sends the Document as a PDF. The template can contain colors, bold/italics/underline, images, and even a signature! And if you get a little crafty with the spreadsheet, you can have it run on a timer each hour/night/week, and auto send out PDF's to whoever you need! Some other added things: * you can import contacts from gmail by Group * you can keep nearly unlimited templates and switch between them easily * you can share templates (for example, in an organization) * you can have your spreadsheet do calculations before the merge starts * you can customize the subject 7 message body & PDF per recipient * you can do it all for free! This is still in development, but it is working and useable now. We just need to clean up a few things, make a How To guide and then we will post it on our website. Stay updated by using our Feeds! Create HTML Email Step 4-Using Dreamweaver to Clean and Refine HTML
See the full tutorial on my blog at www.edhart.me This is the fourth part of a multiple part tutorial series on creating HTML emails from a pre-designed document. Many firms that rely on marketing have a similar scenario: The marketing staff has created various marketing pieces that work great as print pieces, but when they want to do some customized e-mail marketing, the effort boils down to sending attached PDF documents or using template based subscription services. In this session, we are using Dreamweaver to review, cleanup and prep the HTML for use in our email marketing piece. In the previous sessions, we've exported a PDF flyer to an image, then sliced the image using Photoshop, now we are making final adjustments and doing a little cleanup using Dreamweaver before the files are uploaded to the webserver. Why are we uploading files to the webserver? Well, after we insert our clean HTML code into an e-mail (using Outlook or some other email tool), that code will be looking for images stored somewhere on the internet. The HTML code basically tells the computer where to look for the images, so when you are sending an HTML email, there are no attachments. Dreamweaver can make this process fairly easy once you get the hang of it, but like all Adobe CS porducts, it can be a little overwhelming at first. This tutorial will help guide you through this process. For a more detailed version of this tutorial, visit my blog at www.edhart.me If you find this tutorial helpful <b>...</b>

How to Remove Document Properties in Microsoft Word 2010
This is Vi Adkins from ForemostResumes.com. I have a blank Word document, and although nothing has been written in the document yet there is still some meta data that I would want to be removed before I emailed this document to someone else. I'm going to show you how to be sure that all meta data is stripped out of a Word document. Meta data includes things like comments or document properties. Go to the File tab in the upper left hand corner and click on it. In the File tab window, be sure that Info is selected on the left hand side. Notice in the document properties on the right side that I am listed as the document's Author, Vivian Adkins, CPRW. Microsoft Word 2010 has automatically placed my name as the Author of this document. I am now going to remove this information from this document. Go to the Check for Issues button, and in the drop down, contextual menu select Inspect Document. You may be asked to save the file. The Document Inspector dialogue box opens and you have a choice as to whether you want to inspect this document for any of the different categories of meta data. I want to inspect for all of them so I click on the Inspect button, and it's going to take a few seconds to look for any meta data. The inspection has found Document Properties and Personal Information are in the document. Select Remove All and all meta data / information has been removed from the document. Over on the right side you can see that my name has been removed from the document as <b>...</b>

Export QuickBooks to Excel: Smart Tips
QuickBooks can produce a lot of great reports, but sometimes you need to crunch the numbers in Excel to really understand what's going on in a business. Luckily, QuickBooks makes it easy to export data to Excel in just a few clicks. The problem is that sometimes you have to do a lot of clean up in Excel before you can work with the numbers. In this video, the author shows you the techniques he uses to get your data out of QuickBooks and into Excel with greater speed and accuracy. This training video is intended for people who do financial analysis of QuickBooks data for a small business bookkeepers, controllers, and entrepreneurs/business owners who do hands-on financial analysis. The video uses QuickBooks Accountants' Edition 2009 and Microsoft Office Excel 2007. Basic knowledge of both QuickBooks and Excel is assumed. ------------------------------ Copyright 2009 David Stern CFO

Go Behave! A BDD Framework for the Go Programming Language
Google Tech Talk January 19, 2010 ABSTRACT Presented by Samuel Tesla. Gospecify is a behavior-driven development (BDD) framework for Go. Rather than focus on testing every nook and cranny of some code, it helps a programmer produce an executable specification of that code's behavior. Go's syntax allowed gospecify to be almost as expressive as Ruby's rpsec; however, a few tricks had to be used to achieve the best readability. This talk will introduce BDD concepts and demonstrate how to implement them in Go using gospecify. Samuel Tesla has had a computer at his fingertips his entire life. He started coding at age six as a maintenance programmer: tweaking a BASIC program his father wrote. Since then, he has always had a passion for telling computers what to do, and especially for programming languages. From niche languages like LaTeX and Inform to general purpose languages like C and Perl; static languages like OCaml and Java to dynamic languages like Smalltalk and Lisp; he loves to learn different ways to program. Currently he works for Engine Yard slinging Ruby at the cloud. In his spare time he likes to code, play guitar, and write fiction.

Dart's plan to make it easier for you to build web apps
Title: Dart: Google's plan to make it easier for you to build web apps Bob Nystrom, engineer on the Dart project, presents an encore session of his OSCON 2012 talk about the Dart project. Abstract: When we announced Dart, it kicked up a bit of a dust storm. In this talk, I discuss the challenges that Google and others face when building web apps today. I introduce Dart and show how its features were designed specifically to address some of those challenges. You'll see how Dart protects you from many of the dark corners and sharp edges of JavaScript and the DOM. When your programs grow and evolve over time, you'll see how Dart can help keep your app nimble and maintainable. Thanks to Dart's Dart to JavaScript compiler, you'll see how you get all of that while still being able to run on any browser that supports modern JS and without the bad karma of fracturing the web.

Access the PDF slide deck, and Questions & Answer text for free here: www.dclab.com Read DCLnews' in-depth article based on this webinar here: www.dclab.com When looking to migrate legacy content to an eBook format (and you have a few choices), there is always the concern of how well automated tools can give good results with negligible clean--up required as a post-conversion activity. This presentation reviews what an automated approach can (and can't) do, issues that are best dealt with pre--conversion, and issues that are best dealt with post--conversion. The session is presented by Mark Gross and Devorah Bloom of Data Conversion Laboratory, about DCL's specification process and how to prepare for the best possible conversion experience. Learn about the kinds of things that you should consider in advance, and the kinds of preparations you can make in order to make the changeover process easier with no surprises. Recorded May 19, 2011

Developing iPhone Applications using Java
Google Tech Talks October 14, 2008 ABSTRACT Apple's iPhone has resulted in significant interest from users and developers alike. Apple's SDK for the iPhone is based on Objective-C as the development language as well as Cocoa for the GUI. Unfortunately Apple's license agreement for the iPhone SDK prohibits the porting of the Java virtual machine to the iPhone. In this presentation we introduce an Open Source Java-to-Objective-C cross-compiler as well as a Java-based implementation of the Cocoa library. With the help of these tools, iPhone applications can be written in pure Java. Using the Java version of Cocoa, it is possible to run a Java-based iPhone application as a Java desktop/applet application that can be cross-compiled to run natively on the iPhone. The talk will discuss the challenges of the Java-to-Objective-C cross-compiler as well as the Java-based version of Cocoa. Details are available at www.xmlvm.org Speaker: Arno Puder Arno Puder is an Associate Professor at the San Francisco State University. Prior to his current position, he worked for AT Labs Research. His interests include middleware, ubiquitous computing, and applications for sensor networks. He is one of the founders of the Open Source CORBA implementation called MICO.

Archivematica: Creating a Comprehensive Digital Preservation System
Monday, May 24, College Park, MD - This presentation was co-hosted by the National Archives Center for Advanced Systems and Technologies (NCAST) with the National Archives Assembly, held at the National Archives at College Park, MD. Peter Van Garderen -- President and System Archivist at Artefactual Systems, Inc. Van Garderen demonstrates his company's digital preservation system known as Archivematica (pronounced "Archive-matica"), which tries to streamline the preservation of digital objects. The system is an open, user-friendly, customizable, and ever improving step-by-step program designed to support the preservation of digital objects, and is already in use by the City of Vancouver Archives. Designed with archivists and digital preservation processes in mind, Archivematica functions as a pipeline through which an archivist can easily process packets of information that have been submitted into an archives. The system interfaces with all standard file systems and preserves file hierarchies during processing. For more information, visit the NCAST web site at www.archives.gov/ncast. The National Archives Applied Research Division (formerly known as NCAST: NARA's Center for Advanced Systems and Technologies) serves as a resource for improving NARA customer services and business processes; and evaluates tools to improve NARA's electronic records and network operations.
