Boston
Boston (pronounced /ˈbɒstən/ or locally /ˈbɔstən/ (
listen)) is the capital of and largest city in Massachusetts, and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. The largest city in New England, Boston is regarded as the unofficial "Capital of New England" for its economic and cultural impact on the entire New England region. The city proper, covering only 48.43 square miles, had a population of 617,594 according to the 2010 U.S. Census. Boston is also the anchor of a substantially larger metropolitan area called Greater Boston, home to 4.5 million people and the tenth-largest metropolitan area in the country. Greater Boston as a commuting region is home to 7.6 million people, making it the fifth-largest Combined Statistical Area in the United States.
In 1630, Puritan colonists from England founded the city on the Shawmut Peninsula. During the late 18th century, Boston was the location of several major events during the American Revolution, including the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. Several early battles of the American Revolution, such as the Battle of Bunker Hill and the Siege of Boston, occurred within the city and surrounding areas. Through land reclamation and municipal annexation, Boston has expanded beyond the peninsula. After American independence was attained Boston became a major shipping port and manufacturing center, and its rich history now helps attract many tourists, with Faneuil Hall alone attracting over 20 million every year. The city was the site of several firsts, including America's first public school, Boston Latin School (1635), and the first subway system in the United States (1897).

Harvard College
Harvard College, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is one of two schools within Harvard University granting undergraduate degrees (the other being Harvard Extension School). Founded in 1636, it is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States and one of the most prestigious in the world.
In 1636 the New College came into existence by vote of the Great and General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony—though without a single building, instructor, or student. In 1639 it was renamed in honor of deceased Charlestown minister John Harvard, who had bequeathed to the school his entire library and half of his monetary estate.
Harvard's first instructor, schoolmaster Nathaniel Eaton, was also its first instructor to be dismissed—in 1639 for overstrict discipline. The school's first students were graduated in 1642. In 1665, Caleb Cheeshahteaumuck, "from the Wampanoag ... did graduate from Harvard, the first Indian to do so in the colonial period."
At the time of Harvard's founding (as today) the colleges of England's Oxford and Cambridge were communities within the larger university, each an association of scholars (both established and aspiring) sharing room and board; Harvard's founders may have envisioned it as the first in a series of sibling colleges which, on the English model, would eventually constitute a university. Though no further "colleges" materialized, nonetheless as Harvard began granting higher degrees in the late eighteenth century it was increasingly styled Harvard University--even as Harvard College (in keeping with emerging American usage of that word) was increasingly thought of as the university's undergraduate division in particular.[citations needed throughout]

It has a growing industrial hinterland, with many information technology and automotive companies setting up factories in Pune district. The city is known for various cultural activities like classical music, spirituality, theatre, sports, and literature. These activities and job opportunities attract migrants and students from all over India and abroad, which makes for a city of many communities and cultures.

Mahindra returned to India and joined the Mahindra Ugine Steel Company (MUSCO) as Executive Assistant to the Finance Director in 1981. He became President and Deputy Managing Director in 1989. During this time, he spearheaded the Mahindra Group’s diversification into the new business areas of real estate development and hospitality. In 1991, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. He became the Managing Director in 1997 and took charge from Keshub 14 years ago in 1997. He took on the additional responsibility of Vice Chairman in 2003.

In June 2010, seven former employees of the Union Carbide subsidiary, all Indian nationals and many in their 70s, were convicted of causing death by negligence and each sentenced to two years imprisonment and fined Rs.1 lakh ($2,124). All were released on bail shortly after the verdict.

After dropping out of university, he became a professional pilot for Indian Airlines. He remained aloof from politics, despite his family's political prominence. It was only following the death of his younger brother Sanjay Gandhi in 1980 that Rajiv entered politics. Following the assassination of his mother in 1984 after Operation Blue Star, the Indian National Congress party leaders nominated him to be Prime Minister.

Anand Mahindra was born into a well-known business family. He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1977, where he was a member of the Phoenix S.K. Club[6][2] and completed his MBA from Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts in 1981. According to October 26, 2011 rankings of Forbes, his net worth is US $825 million and is ranked #68 in India's rich list.

Mahindra returned to India and joined the Mahindra Ugine Steel Company (MUSCO) as Executive Assistant to the Finance Director in 1981. He became President and Deputy Managing Director in 1989. During this time, he spearheaded the Mahindra Group’s diversification into the new business areas of real estate development and hospitality. In 1991, he was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. He became the Managing Director in 1997 and took charge from Keshub 14 years ago in 1997.[7] He took on the additional responsibility of Vice Chairman in 2003.
Mahindra was a co-promoter of Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd, which was converted into a bank in 2003.[8] Kotak Mahindra Bank is one of the foremost private sector banks today.
Under Anand Mahindra's leadership, the Mahindra Group has set global ambitions and benchmarks for success. The company has grown rapidly through both acquisitions and greenfield business development with several high-profile mergers in the past few years, including the acquisition of Satyam Computer Services in 2009,[9] Reva Electric Vehicles in 2010,[10] and Ssangyong Motor Company in 2010.[11] In 2002, the company launched an indigenously developed SUV, the Scorpio, which today has gone global.
He has recently been ranked amongst the most influential men & women in Mumbai by Daily News and Analysis.[12]

Mahindra used to play tennis and has now taken up sailing. He studied filmmaking at Harvard[13] and remains a keen photographer with a strong interest in film. He enjoys listening to the blues [14] and helped set up an annual Mahindra Blues Festival in Mumbai in 2011. Anand Mahindra has recently become a regular user of the social media tool Twitter.[15]

Mahindra is the co-founder of the Harvard Business School Association of India, an association dedicated to the promotion of professional management in India. The association has grown substantially over the years.
He is the co-chair at the World Economic Forum at Davos.
He is Past President 2003-04 of the Confederation of Indian Industry[16] and has also been President of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
Mahindra is a Director of The National Stock Exchange of India Limited appointed under the "Public Representatives" category.
He takes a keen interest in matters related to education and apart from being a Trustee of the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust, which provides scholarships to students, he is also on the Board of Governors of the Mahindra United World College of India.
He is the Chairman of National Safety Council of India.[17]
Mahindra is the Founder Chairman of the Mumbai Festival,[18] which was launched in January 2005. The event was the first comprehensive festival to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of the city.
He is the Co-Chairman of the International Council of the Asia Society, New York.
He is also a Trustee of Naandi Foundation [19]one of India's largest NGOs.
