In Hinduism, Ādityas (Sanskrit: आदित्य, pronounced [ɑːd̪it̪jɐ]), meaning "of Aditi or related to Aditi", refers to the offspring of Aditi. Adityas are solar class deities. In later Hinduism, Aditya is used in the singular to mean the sun.

Vedas[link]

In the Rigveda, the Ādityas are the seven celestial deities, sons of Āditi, headed by Varuna, followed by Mitra:

1. Varuna
2. Mitra
3. Aryaman
4. Bhaga
5. Anśa or Aṃśa
6. Dhātṛ or Dakṣa
7. Indra

The eighth Āditya (Mārtanda) was rejected by Aditi, leaving seven sons. In the Yajurveda (Taittirīya Samhita), their number is given as eight, and the last one is believed to be Vivasvāna. Hymn LXXII of Rig Veda, Book 10, also confirms that there are eight Adityas, the eight one being Mārtanda, who is later revived back as Vivasvāna. ^[1]

"So with her Seven Sons Aditi went forth to meet the earlier age. She brought Mārtanda thitherward to spring to life and die again."

As a class of gods, the Rigvedic Ādityas were distinct from other groups such as the Maruts, the Rbhus or the Viśve-devāḥ (although Mitra and Varuna are associated with the latter). ^[2]

Characterisation[link]

The Adityas being Solar deities have been described in the Rig Veda as bright and pure as streams of water, free from all guile and falsehood, blameless, perfect.

These class of deities have been attributed to as upholding the movables and immovable Dharma. Aditya are beneficent Gods who act as protectors of all beings, who are provident and guard the world of spirits. In the form of Mitra-Varuna, the Adityas are true to the eternal Law and act as the debt exactors.^[3]

In present day usage in Sanskrit, the term Aditya has been made singular in contrast to Vedic Adityas, and are being used synonymously with Surya, the Sun.

There is differences regarding the number of Adityas as per various non-vedic texts.

Brahmanas[link]

The Vedas do not identify the Ādityas and there is no classification of the thirty-three gods, except for in the Yajurveda (7.19), which says there are eleven gods in heaven (light space), eleven gods in atmosphere (intermediate space), and eleven gods in earth (observer space). In the Satapatha Brahmana, the number of Ādityas is eight in some passages, and in other texts of the same Brahmana, twelve Adityas are mentioned. ^[4] The list of 12 Adityas is as follows:

Āditya in the (Chāndogya-Upaniṣad) is also a name of Viṣṇu, in his Avatar known as Vāmana, the dwarf. His mother is Aditi.

Aditya Narayan Jha (Hindi: आदित्य नारायण झा), born 6 August 1987, in Mumbai, India, commonly known as Aditya Narayan, is an actor, television host and music composer. He is the only child of Indian playback singer Udit Narayan and Deepa Narayan.

Aditya Narayan Jha is the son of Udit And Deepa Narayan Jha. His grandfather is HareKrishna Jha and Grandmother Bhuvaneshwari Devi. Aditya was born and grew up in Mumbai, India.

Narayan completed his schooling from Utpal Shanghvi school in 2003, his junior college from Mitthibai College of Commerce. He graduated from Tech School of Music in London where he did a one-year course in English contemporary music. he completed his graduation in commerce through correspondence.

Aditya Narayan Jha was 5 years old when he started his musical career. His first playback song for the movie Akele Hum Akele Tum along with his father, Udit Narayan. He also was in the movie Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai as Salman Khan's son. He has sung many songs with singers like Asha Bhosle and father, Udit Narayan.His famous song ‘chhota bachha jaankey humko’ from Masoom(1996 film) was a nationwide hit. He sung for A.R. Rahman in the Hindi movie Rangeela. in 2006 he completed a diploma in English contemporary music at Tech Music Schools, in London. On his return to India, he was called to audition for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007. after his successful triumph over many singers in the running to host the coveted music reality show, he became a household name and the show went on to become one of the most successful reality shows in the history of Indian television.

At 19 years old, Narayan's first professional outing came as an anchor for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007. He then hosted Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs 2008 His third and last season of the show was Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009 In April/May '08 his father, Udit Narayan and Aditya, had a successful musical tour consisting of 20 sold out shows in the United States of America, Canada & West Indies. In 2009 Aditya signed his first film as lead actor, Shaapit, directed by Vikram Bhatt, which was released worldwide on March 19, 2010. He sung 4 songs and also wrote and composed the title track for the film, Shaapit Hua In 2011, He hosted the reality show X Factor (India) on Sony Entertainment Television. Rumours suggest that in early 2012, Aditya joined Sanjay Leela Bhansali as an assistant director for the producer/director's next directorial venture.

Aditya Pancholi (born 12 September 1965) is an Indian film actor working in Hindi Cinema. Aditya has also proved his worth in many villainous roles as well, the recent being Dum Maro Dum. His performance in Yes Boss and the double role in Jung was very well received.

He's the son of the filmmaker Rajan Pancholi and Aruna. He has one sister and two brothers. He was born as Nirmal Pancholi in Mumbai, India. When Pancholi dated actress Pooja Bedi, he was accused of statutory rape of her minor domestic help (15 at the time).^[1]

Career[link]

He has appeared in over sixty-five films and also appeared in several television productions. Pancholi is perhaps best known for the films Saathi (also known as The Companion) (1991), Aatish: Feel the Fire (1994), Yes Boss (1997) and Musafir (2004).

His best work till date is in the movie Saathi, directed by Mahesh Bhatt. His recent villain role was in film "BodyGuard".
