Having set a personal best of 17.70 in 1996, he won a silver medal at the 1997 IAAF World Indoor Championships and a bronze medal at the 1997 World Championships. He shares the men's world indoor record with Christian Olsson of Sweden with a mark of 17.83 metres. Urrutia retired after the 2002 season.

Anna Biryukova (; born September 27, 1967 in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk) is a retired female triple jumper from Russia. In 1993 she won a gold medal at the World Championships by jumping 15.09, a new world record. She reportedly believed she had the capability of jumping 16 metres, but in 1994 she didn't reach the 15 metre mark once, although she did become European champion that season. In 1995 she starred in the World Championships, and she almost reached old heights by jumping 15.08 metres. Women's triple jump had progressed, however, and she only managed a bronze medal behind Iva Prandzheva (15.15m) and Inessa Kravets, who jumped a world record of 15.50 metres which still stands.

The triple jump (sometimes referred to as the hop, step and jump or, incorrectly, the hop, skip and jump) is a track and field sport, similar to the long jump, but involving a “hop, bound and jump” routine, whereby the competitor runs down the track and performs a hop, a bound and then a jump into the sand pit.
The triple jump has its origins in the Ancient Olympics and has been a modern Olympics event since the Games’ inception in 1896.
The current male and female world record holders are Jonathan Edwards of Great Britain, with a jump of 18.29 metres (60.0 ft), and Inessa Kravets of Ukraine, with a jump of 15.5 metres (51 ft).

The triple jump, or at least a variant involving three jumps one after the other, has its roots in the Ancient Greek Olympics, with records showing athletes attaining distances of more than 50 feet (15.24 m).[1]
In Irish mythology the geal-ruith (triple jump), was an event contested in the ancient Irish Tailteann Games as early as 1829 B.C.[2]
The triple jump was a part of the inaugural 1896 Olympics in Athens, although back then it consisted of two hops on the same foot and then a jump. In fact, the first modern Olympic champion, James Connolly, was a triple jumper. Early Olympics also included the standing triple jump, although this has since been removed from the Olympic program and is rarely performed in competition today. The women’s triple jump was introduced into the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
Technique[link]
The athlete sprints down a runway to a takeoff mark, from which the triple jump is measured. The takeoff mark is commonly a physical piece of wood or similar material embedded in the runway, or a rectangle painted on the runway surface. In modern championships a strip of plasticine, tape, or modeling clay is attached to the far edge of the board to record athletes overstepping or "scratching" the mark, defined by the trailing edge of the board. There are three phases of the triple jump: the "hop" phase, the "bound" or "step" phase, and the "jump" phase. These three phases are executed in one continuous sequence.
The hop starts with the athlete jumping from the take off board on one leg, which for descriptive purposes will be the right leg. The objective of the first phase is to hop out, focusing all momentum forward. The hop landing phase is very active, involving a powerful backward "pawing" action of the right leg, with the right take-off foot landing heel first on the runway. In the step, the athlete utilises the backward momentum of the right leg to immediately execute a powerful jump forwards and upwards, the left leg assisting the take-off with a powerful hip flexion thrust. This leads to the familiar triple jump mid-air position, with the right take off leg trailing flexed at the knee and the left leg now leading flexed at the hip and knee. The jumper then holds this position for as long as possible, before extending the knee of the leading left leg and then immediately beginning a powerful backward motion of the whole left leg, again landing on the runway with a powerful pawing action. The step is followed by the jump, where the athlete jumps from the left leg to land in a sand-filled pit. The jump phase is very similar to the long jump although most athletes have lost too much speed by this time to manage a full hitch kick, and most use a hang or sail technique. In the landing the jumper should aim to avoid sitting back on landing, or placing either hand behind the feet. Each phase of the triple jump should get progressively higher.
A "foul", also known as a "scratch," or missed jump, occurs when a jumper oversteps the takeoff mark, misses the pit entirely, does not use the correct foot sequence throughout the phases, or does not perform the attempt in the allotted amount of time (usually about 90 seconds). When a jumper "scratches," the seated official will raise a red flag and the jumper who was "on deck," or up next, prepares to jump.

Phillips Olaosebikan Idowu MBE (born 30 December 1978 in the London Borough of Hackney) is a Nigerian-English triple jumper. He was the 2009 World Champion, the 2008 World Indoor champion and reigning 2010 EAA European Champion representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as 2006 Commonwealth Games champion representing England and 2007 European Indoor champion. He also won the silver medal representing Team GB at the 2008 Summer Olympics.
He is a member of the London-based Belgrave Harriers athletics club and has been for much of his career.
Despite his successes he has at times been accused of inconsistency and of failing to fulfil his potential.[1] His championship record since 2008, especially his gold medal at the 2009 World Athletics Championships, has addressed these criticisms.

Early life[link]
Idowu was born to Nigerian parents and [2][3] grew up in Hackney, in East London. He describes himself as "the clean-cut black guy who used to dye his hair all them crazy colours and who's now got these studs".[2]
Career[link]
Idowu was a talented sportsman at school in both basketball and American football, yet he was most successful as a junior in athletics. In 1997 he came to attention as a triple jumper when he won the English Schools Championships and the under-20s AAA title, rounding off the year by coming fourth in the European Junior Championships.[4]
His success continued in 2000, when he was ranked in the top 10 triple jumpers in the world and placed sixth in the 2000 Olympic Games. In 2001 he won the European Cup, though later that year his form was found wanting at the World Championships in Edmonton. His first major international medal came when he won silver at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, setting a new personal best of 17.68 metres but losing to world record holder and compatriot Jonathan Edwards. Later in 2002 he placed 5th in the European Championships.[5] In 2010 Idowu joined Lucozade Sport as an Ambassador.
In 2012, Idowu defeated world champion Christian Taylor at a Diamond League meeting in Shanghai.[6]
Injury[link]
A knee injury that required surgery ruled Idowu out of the whole 2003 season. His aim was to return to form in 2004 to compete at the Olympic Games in Athens.[7] Despite his ambition for success in 2004 he failed to deliver at the Olympic Games, posting three no jumps in the final.
Championship success[link]
In March 2006, Idowu triumphed at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, winning gold. However, he failed to maintain this form and once again finished in 5th place at the European Championships later that year.
In 2007, in the absence of world leader Christian Olsson, Idowu beat compatriot Nathan Douglas to gold in the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham. He recorded a championship record jump of 17.56 m, beating Olsson's world-leading jump by 12 cm.[8] Idowu went on to win the IAAF Golden League Bislett Games in June 2007 with a distance of 17.35 m. By July 2007 he was ranked the number three triple jumper in the world, a new career high.
On 9 March, 2008, Idowu won his first world title, taking the gold medal at the 2008 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain. His jump of 17.75 m also broke the British and Commonwealth Indoor record previously held by his compatriot and former adversary Jonathan Edwards, who presented him with his medal at the ceremony. Despite his successes at the Indoor Championships and Commonwealth Games, Idowu decided to change coach, switching from John Herbert to 1982 Commonwealth Games medallist Aston Moore. Reflecting on his choice, Idowu stated: "now is the right time to make a change as I develop and move forward".[9]
Idowu won the men's triple jump title at the 2008 British Olympic Trials with a distance of 17.58 m, at the time the longest outdoor jump of 2008. He followed this up with further jumps of 17.57 m and 17.27 m.[10][11]
Idowu took silver in the men's triple jump at the 2008 Beijing Olympics behind World Champion Nelson Évora after arriving at the games as the favourite. His best jump was 17.62 m, achieved in the third round. In an interview with Reuters, Idowu expressed disappointment at having won only silver, though he displayed good humour and also looked forward to the next Olympics in London.[12]
At the start of the 2009 athletics season, Idowu missed the opportunity to defend his European Indoor title as he was suffering from a knee injury.[13] On Tuesday 18th of August 2009 he finally fulfilled his potential by winning the World Championships in Berlin with the longest jump of anyone so far this year and an outdoors personal best distance of 17.73 m, again having his medal presented by Jonathan Edwards.[14] In July 2010 he broke his triple jump personal best jumping 17.81 metres at the Barcelona European Athletics Championships to win gold.[15]
Idowu was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2011 Birthday Honours for services to athletics.[16][17]
Personal life[link]
Idowu is known to the public for his eccentric personality, sporting a variety of hair colours, an array of facial piercings and trademark booming laugh. Other than triple jump, Idowu also enjoys basketball.[18] He has a girlfriend called Carlita. He also has a two-year-old daughter, D'Karma (2009) and a son, Prince (2010).[2]

Johnathan "Jon" Edwards (born 5 July 1984) is a Welsh rugby union footballer. He currently plays his club rugby as a flanker for the Scarlets. In 2007, Edwards was selected as captain of the Wales Sevens squad.
Edwards joined the Pontypridd RFC Academy in 2001, where his performances as a hard hitting openside flanker with a phenomenal workrate earned him a call up to the ranks of the Wales under 19 FIRA squad. Whilst employed as an Assistant Rugby Development Officer with the Buy As You View Schools Initiative, covering the Merthyr area, Edwards was drafted into the Pontypridd senior squad for the 2003/2004 campaign. Edwards joined the Scarlets in 2005 from Cardiff RFC, and made two appearances in the Celtic League for the Scarlets in the 2005–06 season. Edwards plays rugby for Llanelli RFC when not on duty for the Scarlets.
Edwards has represented Wales Sevens and was part of the side that won the Dubai Sevens Bowl competition final in 2005. Edwards went to the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and was part of the squad that won the Plate Final securing a late victory against South Africa.
In March 2007, Edwards was announced as Wales Sevens Captain for the tour to Hong Kong and Adelaide in the fifth and sixth legs of the 2006–07 IRB World Sevens Series. He led by example in the Bowl final against Tonga in Adelaide as he notched a try in his team's 26–14 victory, and also scored a try in the Plate semi-final against the USA in the Hong Kong leg.
Edwards also captained the Sevens squad in the England and Scotland legs; he scored a brace of tries in the superb win over England at Twickenham, leading his team to a first Welsh win at the home of English rugby since 1988.
Edwards retained the Wales Sevens captaincy ahead of the 2007–08 IRB Sevens World Series. He led his team into the initial leg in Dubai, scoring a try in the Bowl semi-final against Australia, which Wales eventually narrowly lost. However, he captained his side to a Bowl trophy win in the George, South Africa Sevens – the first piece of silverware Wales Sevens gained in the 2007–08 season.
