Life of professional community in Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center
It could be any other small town in China. But these streets have witnessed the successful launch of 50 satellites, 8 spacecrafts and 1 target vehicle. The rocket shaped lampposts indicate the community's astronomical ambitions. But the small shops in the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center tell the story of everyday life. Wang Jianhua has been living and working here as an engineer for 15 years. The father of an 8-year-old says he likes the simplicity of the place. Wang Jianhua, Engineer of Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, said, "This community is extremely safe. And the air is good here. There's almost no pollution. " But there are inconveniences too. They are the few ones with internet access. There's only one kindergarten and one school. The closest town is a 2-hour-drive away. After witnessing and contributing to all of China's Shenzhou missions so far, Wang's family have decided to move away to take better care of their son and elderly parents. "Chinese people think ten is a perfect number. My wish is to complete 10 Shenzhou missions before leaving. Plus with me gone, the young will have more employment chances." Said Wang Jianhua. Work on the space missions has kept Wang very busy. To him, the missions are not provocations or power displays. He says the country's advance in space technology is something that makes him proud before his son. And it's simply a way of life. In the central square, people are enjoying such a life. They are either staff at the launch center ...

CZ-2D Launches Tianhui-1B satellite from Jiuquan
May 6, 2012 - Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. China successfully launched its Tianhui I-02 mapping satellite from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China's Gansu province at 3:10 pm Sunday. The satellite, which was launched using a Long March 2-D carrier rocket, has entered its preset orbit. Another similar satellite, the Tianhui I, was launched into space in August 2010. The satellite, developed and produced by a company under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), will mainly be used to conduct scientific experiments, carry out land resource surveys and map territory, according to a statement released after the launch. Remote sensing information and test results from the satellite will boost both the country's scientific research and economic development, said the statement. The mission marked the 161st launch for the Long March rocket family since April 24, 1970, when a Long March-1 rocket successfully sent the country's first satellite, the Dongfanghong-1, into space.

Long March 2F Rocket
China on Saturday launched its Shenzhou-9 spacecraft carrying three astronauts, including Liu Yang, the first Chinese woman to travel to space. The Long March-2F rocket lifted off successfully from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China at 6:37 pm local time and the Shenzhou-9 capsule separated from its booster shortly thereafter and entered orbit. Known as Taikonauts in China, Liu and her male traveling companions are embarking on a 13-day mission to rendezvous with the country's Tiangong-1 space station module. This month's undertaking marks an important step for the country's space program. It is China's first attempted manned docking mission with an orbiting spacecraft, a feat that has only been accomplished by the United States and Russia. The China National Space Administration (CNSA) has now sent eight astronauts into space, including two-time space traveler Jing Haipeng, who is onboard Shenzhou-9 with Liu Yang and Liu Wang, the third member of the crew. The 9.4-ton Tiangong-1 module, launched and placed in orbit last September, is not a fully developed space station but rather a testing platform for rendezvous and docking missions like the one upon which the Shenzhou-9 is currently embarked. The CNSA aims to eventually launch a fully functioning space station as part of the agency's Tiangong, or 'Heavenly Palace' program.

China will launch its Shenzhou-9 manned spacecraft sometime in mid-June to perform the country's first manned space docking mission with the orbiting Tiangong-1 space lab module, a spokesperson with the country's manned space program said here Saturday. (Xinhua/Wang Jianmin)...The Jiaolong deep-sea submersible has arrived at a testing-site in the West Pacific Ocean. It will be attempting to dive 7000 meters below the sea. Its first dive was scheduled on Tuesday, but has been delayed due to the weather and sea conditions. The submersible is undergoing internal checks ahead of its attempt. Three submariners will go down with the vessel. The Jiaolong is the world's first state-owned manned submersible designed to reach depths of 7000 meters below sea level. The vessel will dive six times, at greater and greater depths, to try a new dive record...O Jiaolong é o primeiro do mundo estatal tripulada submersível projetado para atingir profundidades de 7.000 metros abaixo do nível do mar.

A slew of launches this last week - SpacePod 2010.06.21
There are a few launches that we have not yet covered from this last week... So lets take a look. First up we have the Chinese Shijian 12 research satellite that was launched aboard a Long March 2d. There is not a whole log of footage from this launch, but here's what we could find. Not a lot is known about the Shijian or "Practice" 12 satellite other than it is a research bird. The launch took place at 1:31 UTC from the ;Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on June 14th, 2010.Next up we have Prisma and Picard launched aboard a Dnepr, which is a decommissioned ICBM.The Primsa demonstration mission is a Swedish payload that will test new inexpensive technologies for rendezvous in space. The Picard payload is a French satellite that will be studying the Sun. THERE ARE FOUR LIGHTS! See what I did there? Little Star Trek reference? Nevermind. This launch took place on June 15th at 14:42 UTC from Russia.Who could forget the Human Space Flight that also happend on June 15th at 21:35 UTC with Expedition 24/25 aboard a Soyuz Rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome? And why is it that Russia can have a camera INSIDE of the spacecraft but NASA can't? The crew has already docked with the ISS and for those who like to know about the firsts, this will be the first time Station has seen two women on a long duration mission, although not the first time two women on station.

On June 9, 2012, the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft and its carrier rocket were rolled out to launch pad in Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.[2] Shenzhou 9 will be the second spacecraft to dock with the Tiangong 1 space station, and the first manned docking. The aim of the mission will be to perform a docking with the Tiangong 1. This mission may be followed by the manned Shenzhou 10 which is planned to be launched in 2013. The mission's crew includes the first female Chinese astronaut, Liu Yang.
