Royal Navy - Heart of Oak
"Heart of Oak" is the official march of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. It is also the official march of the Canadian Navy, as well as the Canadian Forces' Naval Operations Branch. The music was composed by Dr William Boyce and the words were written by the 18th Century English actor David Garrick. Heart of Oak was originally written as an opera. The "wonderful year" referenced in the first verse is 1759-60, during which British forces were victorious in several significant battles: the Battle of Lagos on 19 August 1759, the battle of Quebec City on 13 September 1759 and the Battle of Quiberon Bay on 20 November 1759, foiling a French invasion project. These were followed a few months later by the Battle of Wandiwash in India on 22 January 1760. Britain's continued success in the war boosted the songs popularity. Come, cheer up, my lads, 'tis to glory we steer, To add something more to this wonderful year; To honour we call you, as freemen not slaves, For who are so free as the sons of the waves? (Chorus sung once...) Heart of oak are our ships, jolly tars are our men, we always are ready; Steady, boys, steady! We'll fight and we'll conquer again and again. We never see the French but we wish them to stay, They always see us and they wish us away; If they run, we will follow, we will drive them ashore, And if they won't fight, we can do no more. (Chorus sung once...) They swear they'll invade us, these terrible foes, They frighten our women, our children and beaus ...

This video is about addictions, mainly to technology, but it’s open to various interpretations.
Years ago the idea behind technology was to give people more free time from work and give us a better life. So nowadays, with the possibility for the majority of people to have access to electronics and hi tech, is it true that we have more spare time and a better quality of life? Or have we become addicted to the technology that surrounds us everyday and it has suck us into it? But humans get addicted really easily to a lot of things in life and this video is also a metaphor about addictions in general, about being manipulated without even realizing it or without reacting.
PROCESS:
This is an audio/visual project where sound and images were developed synchronically from the beginning and where one was guide to the other and vice-versa until final completion.
In order to do this, for director Giovanni Bucci was very important to be involved with writing the track together with sound designer/music producer Marco Morano.
The team came up with the concept and started researching music and visuals that would suit the mood and atmosphere they wanted for the video, experimenting with sound, graphic styles and techniques.
To produce this project many different disciplines and elements were used: green screen, stop motion animation, filming with macro, editing, motion graphics, visual effects, styling, make up, sound design.

Acorn to Oak filmed over an 8 month period time-lapse
Acorn to Oak seedling filmed over a period of 8 months. Filmed by Neil Bromhall for www.rightplants4me.co.uk The acorn was collected in September and filmed in an underground set using a 2 hour interval between exposures. The acorn split soon after it was planted and continued to split during the winter months. In January the first sign of root growing could be seen followed in February by the emergence of shoot. In March the shoot broke through the soil surface. The leaves formed between March and April. This is an example of hypogeal germination. Filmed on Nikon D300. 55mm macro nikkor lens and studio flash with growlight for top shot. This sequence accompanies my interactive plant identification website www.rightplants4me.co.uk Music 'Pendulum' by Oliver Ledbury

Wye Oak - We Were Wealth
Lyrics: though i am grown, i am living like a child now. i wish, i want: giving myself everything fearing the release, keeping the peace say, for instance, i pay money for an object sight unseen, how is it that it speaks for me, borrowed never earned, in debt from birth fill the days at any cost and spent your earnings, ease the losses we were wealth and we were money, of the world and needing nothing --- We Were Wealth as written by Jennifer Lynn Wasner Lyrics © Kobalt Music Publishing Ltd.
