Central Park
Recorded September 15, 2008. Central Park is a large public, urban park in New York City, with about twenty-five million visitors annually. Most of the areas immediately adjacent to the park are known for impressive buildings and valuable real estate. Central Park has been a National Historic Landmark since 1963. Central Park is bordered on the north by West 110th Street, on the south by West 59th Street, on the west by Eighth Avenue. Along the park's borders however, these are known as Central Park North, Central Park South, and Central Park West respectively. Fifth Avenue retains its name along the eastern border of the park. While much of the park looks natural, it is in fact almost entirely landscaped. It contains several natural-looking lakes and ponds, extensive walking tracks, bridle paths, two ice-skating rinks, the Central Park Zoo, the Central Park Conservatory Garden, a wildlife sanctuary, a large area of natural woods, a 106-acre billion gallon reservoir with an encircling running track, and an outdoor amphitheater called the Delacorte Theater which hosts the "Shakespeare in the Park" summer festivals. This video is of my walk through Central Park on a beautiful late summer day. From: timvp.com

Frank's Marriage Proposal in Central Park
On October 24, 2010, Frank proposed to his girlfriend Kasey. He asked his geeky friends to help him pull off an elaborate surprise proposal in New York City's Central Park. Kasey was lured to a specific location by a friend (Nadia), who was in on the whole surprise. It was a totally awesome proposal and Kasey said "yes". Thanks so much to everyone who helped out!!! Special thanks to the "team" who orchestrated the whole thing: Jeremy, Sha, and Candice! Also special thanks to Austin Walker (drums) and his band.

John Coltrane- Central Park West
Coltrane's Sound is a jazz album by John Coltrane originally recorded in 1960, but released in June 1964 (according to Atlantic Records reissue liner notes). Because the tracks were put together and released four years after being recorded, the album was overshadowed by Coltrane's later, more experimental works that followed his so-called "Middle Period." Despite being underrated, Coltrane's Sound actually belongs to the same landmark series of recordings that produced the two more popular albums, My Favorite Things and Coltrane Plays the Blues. This collection thus stands on its own as a very significant and impressive album that features some of the best work by John Coltrane and his renowned quartet — McCoy Tyner (Piano), Elvin Jones (Drums) and Steve Davis (Bass) — on the Atlantic label. Most of the tracks are original Coltrane compositions (some based on melodies reworked from other songs), except for "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" and "Body and Soul." John Coltrane -- Sax (Soprano), Sax (Tenor) Steve Davis -- Bass Elvin Jones -- Drums McCoy Tyner -- Piano And quote: "Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Mortal Kombat in Central Park
UC Berkeley's DeCadence sings to two guys "sparring" in Central Park, New York City. It isn't the best we've ever done with this song, but it was spur of the moment and fun. These guys didn't know what we were doing when we walked up. Another note: Yes I realize I misspelled "sparring" in the video, and yes, I realize they're not actually sparring. Oops. I'm too lazy to update the text and repost. Check out DeCadence's new YouTube channel: www.youtube.com

What you see is real, but you can't see it this way with the naked eye. It is the result of thousands of 20-30 second exposures, edited together to produce the timelapse. This allows you to see the Milky Way, Aurora and other Phenonmena, in a way you wouldn't normally see them.
In the opening "Dakotalapse" title shot, you see bands of red and green moving across the sky. After asking several Astronomers, they are possible noctilucent clouds, airglow or faint Aurora. I never got a definite answer to what it is. You can also see the red and green bands in other shots.
At :53 and 2:17 seconds into the video you see a Meteor with a Persistent Train. Which is ionizing gases, which lasted over a half hour in the cameras frame. Phil Plait wrote an article about the phenomena here http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2011/10/02/a-meteors-lingering-tale/
There is a second Meteor with a much shorter persistent train at 2:51 in the video. This one wasn't backlit by the moon like the first, and moves out of the frame quickly.
The Aurora were shot in central South Dakota in September 2011 and near Madison, Wisconsin on October 25, 2011.
Watch for two Deer at 1:27
Most of the video was shot near the White River in central South Dakota during September and October 2011, there are other shots from Arches National Park in Utah, and Canyon of the Ancients area of Colorado during June 2011.

Places in Time: Chicago
UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for your support of this video and all of your messages and comments! I've posted some of my thoughts on the video and its success at http://on.fb.me/HzgMtY and http://facebook.com/chrispzero
Watch in HD with sound on!
Chicago is the first destination for my new series, Places in Time. This piece focuses specifically on downtown Chicago, which was my home for over 6 years until late 2010.
Downtown Chicago has long been an active area - a financial and transportation hub flanked by the lakefront, Grant Park, residential districts and shopping, but the area has evolved rapidly during the last decade and is now more than ever a major residential and tourism center. Between the world class skyline, lakefront, and park space, downtown Chicago offers scenery and an environment not found anywhere else in the non-coastal USA. The central city on an average day contains a blend of office workers, residents, commuters, and a mesh of locals, suburbanites, and tourists who venture in to enjoy the great restaurants, shopping, and entertainment.
When I first moved to downtown Chicago in 2003, I lived in one of the only residential buildings in the Chicago Loop. Most businesses shut down after the workday and the area was very quiet at night. Since that time, the number of residents, and all the restaurants, shopping, and entertainment that support them, has grown rapidly in the Loop, South Loop, and West Loop neighborhoods. Living in a rapidly gentrifying area can be frustrating at times, but the transformation of the area in such a short period was nothing short of amazing to witness.
Chicago as a whole has a great energy - one of America's few dense urban environments where people are forced to step out of their isolating cars and experience life alongside one another. The people are mostly genuine, hard working, and friendly. There are countless vibrant neighborhoods with a dramatic range of uniqueness and character. The city changes and transforms during each of the four seasons, but never ceases to be active and full of life.
All footage for this piece was shot between 2010 and now. My goal was to provide a glimpse into the energy and fast paced life of an average day in downtown Chicago, enhanced through fast motion timelapse. Some of the viewpoints and locations may seem familiar, but I've also tried to showcase the city from a number of different and less common vantage points.

The Places in Time series will be an ongoing series exploring different locations that I visit. I travel America and the world to create stock photography, timelapses, and other video. Most of my trips have very tight schedules that don't allow me the time to thoroughly explore, but I will be using this series as a reason to delve deeper into destinations and try to capture the real energy and atmosphere of the cities, areas, and countries that I visit.
