In keeping with Barack Obama's presidential campaign promise, the US has withdrawn its troops from Iraq and by the end of 2012 US spending in Iraq will be just five per cent of what it was at its peak in 2008. In a special two-part series, Fault Lines travels across Iraq to take the pulse of a country and its people after nine years of foreign occupation and nation-building. Now that US troops have left, how are Iraqis overcoming the legacy of violence and toxic remains of the US-led occupation, and the sectarian war it ignited? Is the country on the brink of irreparable fragmentation? Correspondent Sebastian Walker first went to Baghdad in June 2003 and spent the next several years reporting un-embedded from Iraq. In the first part of this Fault Lines series, he returns and travels from Basra to Baghdad to find out what kind of future Iraqis are forging for themselves. Related article

We spoke with Lauren Sweeney of Wink News, and she wan not interested in the differences, success or failure. This type of misleading information leads to families believing that they can only buy one-shot hurricane protection. This is NOT true. www.euronews.com The European Commission has said it is preparing to release a further 50 million euros in emergency aid to help Syrian civilians due to the country's worsening humanitarian crisis. The latest announcement came as Brussels called on both Damascus and Syria's rebels to agree upon temporary cease fires to let aid get through. The EU's Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid Kristalina Georgieva said: "We are talking about leaving space for humanity in the middle of a conflict. And that is an obligation under the Geneva Conventions to all countries, and that is also an obligation for the opposition in Syria, because they aspire one day to be the government." It is estimated around a 250000 refugees have so far fled the fighting in Syria, 17 months since the uprising began. Aid agencies said despite a lack of flights out of the country and closed borders, the exodus is growing. Find us on: Youtube bit.ly Facebook www.facebook.com Twitter twitter.com

KATHLEEN'S BROTHER SAID PETERSON'S DEFENSE ATTORNEYS WERE CLOWNS THAT LAUGHED AT THE FAMILY. BUT NOW THE FAMILY HAS JUSTICE. AND CRIMINAL PETERSON WILL DRAIN OUR TAX DOLLARS IN PRISON. Former Illinois cop Drew Peterson was found guilty today of killing his wife, Kathleen Savio, and making it look like an accident in 2004. The jury returned a verdict after two days of deliberations, just an hour after stopping discussions to ask the judge the meaning of the word "unanimous." Peterson now faces up to 60 years in prison. Peterson's third wife, Kathleen Savio, was found dead in her bathtub in 2004, and her death was initially ruled an accident. However, after Peterson's fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, disappeared without a trace in 2007, police exhumed Savio's body and reexamined it, changing their finding to homicide. Peterson was then charged with first-degree murder. He faces 60 years in prison if convicted. The jury stopped their deliberations just an hour before reaching their verdict to ask the judge the meaning of the word "unanimous." "Just to be clear, judge, what does unanimous mean?" read a note sent by jurors to Judge Edward Burmila this afternoon. Judge Edward Burmila, who has overseen the six-week murder trial of the former Bolingbrook, Ill., police sergeant, wrote a note back to jurors explaining the meaning and referring the jurors back ...
