Testing the CCI Shotshell in .22 LR. This is a decent cartridge for the intended purpose...small rodents, snakes, etc. at very short range, but absolutely not adequate for personal self-defense. .22 Handgun for Self-Defense? CCI 40 gr Mini-Mag Test
If you were to choose a .22 LR handgun for personal defense, primary carry or backup, what type of ammo do you think is most effective? This is the first in a series of ammo tests with a short barrel .22 semi-auto; Ruger SR22P with a 3.5" barrel. I am using the CCI Mini-Mag 40 grain copperplated solid in this test, distance of 10 feet with the SIM-TEST media (calibrated ballistic gel) and 4 layers of denim per IWBA protocol. My primary objective with this ammo choice is to get an idea of penetration possibilities compared to JHP's tested in larger calibers, plus a point of comparison for .22 LR hollowpoints that will be tested in the future. While the .22 LR is essentially the "bottom floor" or last resort in caliber choice for self-defense, the compact nature of these handguns combined with low recoil and shootability could make it a viable choice for some folks. As noted in the video, I am NOT advocating this option, simply providing data that might help you make a decision. CAMERA: Sony HDR-CX560, 60p, 28 mbps, 1920 x 1080 HD. .22 LR TRACERS
Brief overview of the .22 long rifle tracer from Piney Mountain Ammunition, followed by shooting segments including POV. Distances of 60 to 80 yards in controlled conditions at specific targets. These were purchased at the Knob Creek Gun Show in West Point, Kentucky. They are also available via several online outlets from $15 to $25 for a box of 50 rounds. This cartridge definitely 'lights up". At an advertised 1070 fps, it is subsonic. I did not chronograph, but I'm thinking that 1070 fps is a stretch for this 40 gr bullet. It drops off quickly, dramatically affecting accuracy. This is also a quiet shooter; my neighbor's dog didn't even bark at the noise. PLEASE NOTE: You need optimum ground and weather conditions for shooting any type of tracers. You alone are responsible for your actions. F-22 Supermanouverability
Montage of clips of the F-22 airshow demo including cobras, backflips, super-high-alpha flight, the Raptor hovering with its nose pointed straight up, some super-fast pitch-ups, and some "vapor" (sonic shock condensation cones and wingtip vortex contrails) at the very end. Sweet, sweet stuff. As we know, the F-22 is pretty much invisible in the battlefield (in simulated wargames, F-22 pilots always kill everyone else before being detected), has the fastest cruise speed of any airplane currently flying (MACH 1.5-1.75 depending on whom you ask), is powerful enough to break the sound barrier while flying straight up in a vertical climb while fully loaded, and is extremely advanced in how it manages, shares, and integrates information and presents it to the pilot. This weekend, the USAF has allowed one more thing about the F-22 to be shown to the public: its maneuvering capabilities. This video is a montage of clips from the F-22's first full tactical airshow demo (performed in Langley this weekend by Major Paul Moga) plus a few other F-22 clips from YouTube. I don't think I need to tell you that no American fighter has ever enabled a pilot to do these kinds of aerobatics:

This whole project has been an amazing experience. The two of us became friends through Vimeo and explored a shared interest in timelapsing Yosemite National Park over an extended period of time. We'd like to expand this idea to other locations and would appreciate any suggestions for a future project.

A Short Animation Inspired by the Works of İlhan Koman
Plato Art Space is proud to present Candaş Şişman’s video dedicated to famous sculptor İlhan Koman produced for the exhibition İlhan Koman: Hulda Festival, a Journey into Art and Science opening on the 22nd September, 2010.
İlhan Koman’s unique design approach in his form studies also inspires contemporary art works. The video installation Flux by young artist Candaş Şişman can be defined as a digital animation which is inspired from the structural features of some of İlhan Koman’s works like Pi, 3D Moebius, Whirlpool and To Infinity... A red circle, which is colored in reference to the red radiators of Ogre, is traced in a morphological transformation which re-interprets the formal approach of Koman’s works. The continuous movement sometimes connotes the formal characteristics of Pi, 3D Moebius, Whirlpool and To Infinity..., as well as the original formal interpretations of the design principles of the works . In Flux, Koman’s design process in the making of the Pi series has been treated as the emerging of a sphere from a two-dimensional circle by the principle of increasing the surface; and that simple direction is re-interpreted in digital medium. Thanks to this, in the digital animation an entirely different form serial that does not resemble Pi yet remaining its design principle can be followed through the flow of a circle to the sphere. As a conscious attitude of the artist, this work is not designed in a direct visual analogy with Koman’s works. During the animation, none of the moments of the transforming form look like Pi or 3D Moebius, however the subjective reading of Koman’s approach can be observed.
With the integration of the sounds of various materials – which Koman used in his sculptures – Flux turns into an impressive spatial experience. Flux, also exemplifies that Koman’s work can be re-interpreted by the analysis and manipulation of form in the digital medium.

Dishonorable Disclosures
Intelligence and Special Operations forces are furious and frustrated at how President Obama and those in positions of authority have exploited their service for political advantage. Countless leaks, interviews and decisions by the Obama Administration and other government officials have undermined the success of our Intelligence and Special Operations forces and put future missions and personnel at risk. The unwarranted and dangerous public disclosure of Special Forces Operations is so serious -- that for the first time ever -- former operators have agreed to risk their reputations and go 'on the record' in a special documentary titled "Dishonorable Disclosures." Its goal is to educate America about serious breaches of security and prevent them from ever happening again. Use of military ranks, titles & photographs in uniform does not imply endorsement of the Dept of the Army or the Department of Defense. All individuals are no longer in active service with any federal agency or military service.

Ruger 10/22: The Everyman's Rifle, Part 1
Part 1 of 2: Every shooter in the US should own a Ruger 10/22 (and I wish my overseas viewers could too!). It is the everyman's, all-around .22 rifle. It shocks me when I find one that doesn't! That's because it provides immense enjoyment and capabilities for such a low cost. Even out-of-box, the venerable 10/22 is accurate, very reliable, tough, ergonomic, lightweight, easy to use and carry, and most of all, fun! It continues to be an extremely successful Ruger design, having sold well over 5 million copies (and still going strong). It has out-sold and out-survived many other .22 designs to include the Remington Nylon 66. The 10/22 has always represented amazing value. That's because for a reasonable price you are getting a rifle that will probably last your entire lifetime. My circa 1976 10/22 (shown) was given to me as a young man by my Dad and has adventured with me in the swamps of Florida and Alabama, the woods of Virginia, Montana, and Washington, the plains of North Dakota, and in the deserts of Utah, eastern Oregon, Arizona, and Idaho. And it's still going strong! There are fancier and equally as-fun .22 rifles available but the 10/22s excel in most areas (and several cool Distributor Exclusive 10/22s abound, like the shown French walnut stocked TALO version) and provide unmatched versatility for the user. The 10/22 has a modular, simple design that makes upgrades to the trigger, bolt, magazine, stock, barrel, and sighting systems easy (many options shown in this ...
