8Ball & MJG is an American Rap and Crunk duo from Memphis, Tennessee. The two rappers met at Ridgeway Middle School in 1980.

They first appeared on the rap scene with their 1992 underground album ''Listen To The Lyrics''. In 1993, they released ''Comin' Out Hard'', the album was successful commercially as well as critically and established the group as a prominent act in the then emerging Southern Rap scene. Their subsequent albums in the 1990s including 1994's ''On the Outside Looking In'', and 1995's ''On Top of the World'' cemented their status as some of the South's best rappers. ''On Top of the World'' was particularly successful, peaking at #8 on the Billboard Hot 200 and being certified Gold. It also contained the song "Space Age Pimpin'", which was 8Ball & MJG's first single to chart, reaching #58 on the Hot R&B;/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks chart and #22 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. After those albums both 8Ball & MJG released solo albums, first MJG's ''No More Glory'' in 1997 and then 8Ball's ''Lost'' in 1998. They reunited in 1999 to release their fourth album as a group, titled ''In Our Lifetime, Vol. 1''. One year later in 2000 they released their fifth group album, entitled ''Space Age 4 Eva''.

In 1996, they appeared on the Red Hot Organization's compilation CD, America is Dying Slowly, alongside Biz Markie, Wu-Tang Clan, and Fat Joe, among many other prominent hip hop artists. The CD, meant to raise awareness of the AIDS epidemic among African American men, was heralded as "a masterpiece" by The Source magazine.

In the early 2000s they would sign with Sean Combs' Bad Boy Records. They already had some experience with the label, being featured on the song "The Player Way" from Bad Boy rapper Mase's 1997 album ''Harlem World''. Their first album for Bad Boy Records, ''Living Legends'', came out in 2004 and was certified Gold by the RIAA. Their second album on Bad Boy Records was titled ''Ridin High'' and was released in March 2007.

Commercially one of the high points of 8Ball & MJG's career was their being featured on Three 6 Mafia's hit song "Stay Fly" in 2005. That song peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, which is the biggest hit of Three 6 Mafia's career and the biggest hit for 8Ball & MJG. The song was a collaboration between two of the most successful rap groups from the state of Tennessee, from whence Three 6 Mafia also hail.

Today 8Ball and MJG also head their own record labels. 8Ball heads 8 Ways Entertainment (distributed by Koch Entertainment), while MJG heads MJG Muzik. On their label are the young, up and coming Memphis duo, Da Volunteers, who are widely known throughout the Southern United States for their 2006 single, "What's Yo Favorite Color?", which glorifies their neighborhood of Orange Mound.

In September 2007, 8Ball and MJG signed deals in Sacramento, CA with Real Talk Entertainment 8Ball released a group album with E.D.I of the Outlawz entitled ''Doin' It Big'' on April 1, 2008 and MJG released a solo album entitled ''Pimp Tight'' on April 29, 2008.

In June 2008 the group announced that they officially signed onto T.I.'s record label Grand Hustle. Their eighth album as a group and their first on Grand Hustle, titled ''Ten Toes Down'', was released in May 2010. It reached #36 on the Billboard 200 in its first week.

Stayve Jerome Thomas (born September 8, 1980), better known as Slim Thug, Boss Hogg or Thug Boss, is an American rapper. He gained mainstream attention for his contribution to the popular single from rapper Mike Jones, "Still Tippin'".

Early life

Slim Thug grew up in Houston's Northside neighborhood of Homestead/Scenic Woods. Slim says that his rap name come from the fact that as a teenager, he was very tall and skinny before he filled out. He stands 6'6" tall. The Thug part comes from people's assumptions of him due to his fresh braids and sunglasses. At age 17, he performed freestyle raps at local high school parties. He began his rap career with Swishahouse in the late 1990s. After realizing how much money he could make distributing his own mixtapes, he parted ways with Swishahouse on good terms and formed his own independent label, Boss Hogg Outlawz. Thomas bought two record stores and worked in real estate.

Music career

Already Platinum (2005-2008)

Slim Thug's debut album with Star Trak Entertainment & Interscope Records, ''Already Platinum'', was released in July 2005 after many delays. It premiered on #2 on the ''Billboard'' 200 albums chart and sold 130,000 copies in its first week. Singles included "3 Kings" (featuring T.I. and Bun B), and "I Ain't Heard of That" (featuring Pharrell and Bun B). Slim Thug appeared on Still Tippin' with Mike Jones and Paul Wall, Beyoncé Knowles's #1 single "Check on It" and Gwen Stefani's "Luxurious". With the Boss Hogg Outlawz, Slim Thug released three albums, ''Boyz N Blue'' (2004), ''Serve & Collect'' (2007) and ''Back by Blockular Demand: Serve & Collect II'' (2008). He left Interscope Records in 2008.

Boss of All Bosses (2009)

Slim Thug's second solo album ''Boss of All Bosses'' was released in 2009. Although not as successful as his debut album ''Boss of All Bosses'' debuted at #15 on the Billboard 200 with 32,000 copies sold in the first week released. It included the single "I Run".

Tha Thug Show (2010-present)

Slim Thug is third studio album ''Tha Thug Show''. His first single was "''Gangsta''" which featured Z-Ro. His second single featured rapper/singer B.o.B entitled "''So High''". It was released November 30, 2010.

Acting career

In October 2009 he appeared on The Daily Show, in a parody discussing the effects of the recession upon wealthy rappers such as himself. The skit was filmed in part at The Lion's Den Recordings in Houston, Texas.

Personal life

Slim Thug dated singer LeToya Luckett until 2006. He claimed the two broke up as a result of his cheating and child with another woman.

According to MTV News, Lupe Fiasco's video for "Hip Hop Saved My Life" was based on Slim Thug's life story. "It is based on Slim Thug," Fiasco revealed. On June 7, 2010, Vibe released controversial statements Slim Thug had made regarding treatment of black men by black and white women saying "it’s hard to find [a successful black man] so Black women have to bow down and let it be known that they gotta start working hard; they gotta start cooking and being down for they man more. ...White women treat they man like a king."

The article stirred many varied reactions from bloggers and online commentators. Cultural critic and Columbia University professor Marc Lamont Hill, singers Aubrey O'Day, D. Woods, and Talib Kweli have all responded publicly to his comments.

Patrick Stephen Houston, better known as Project Pat is an American rapper originating from Memphis, Tennessee. He is the older brother of Juicy J, co-founder of the Three 6 Mafia.

Project Pat broke onto the mainstream scene after providing the hook for Three 6 Mafia's hit "Sippin' on Some Sizzurp" in 2000 and released his breakthrough album Mista Don't Play: Everythangs Workin', the most successful album ever for an independent artist on the Hypnotize Minds label, the next year. In 2001, he was arrested for parole violation after a pair of revolvers were discovered in his vehicle during a traffic stop. That March, he was sentenced to four years in prison on two counts of a felon in possession of a firearm. His third album Layin' Da Smack Down was released during Pat's incarceration. In late 2009, Project Pat began attempting to start up a new record label called D-Brady Ent.

Rap career

Rap music had long been a part of Pat's life before he soared to national fame in the early 2000s. His brother, Juicy J, co-founded influential Memphis hardcore rap group Three 6 Mafia during the early '90s. Though never an official member of the group, Pat affiliated himself with the Mafia, appearing on such albums as CrazyNDaLazDayz (1998) and Indo G's Angel Dust (1998). A year later, Pat recorded a solo album of his own for Hypnotize Minds/Loud, Ghetty Green. Though the solo debut didn't propel Pat to superstar status, it did establish him within the growing Dirty South scene, and his follow-up album, Murderers & Robbers (2000), did much the same; though this second album was released independently rather than through Loud. Next came Pat's high-profile appearance on Three 6 Mafia's "Sippin' on Some Syrup," and when that song became a huge hit, the stage was set for one of his own. That hit would be "Chickenhead," a song also featuring La' Chat, the successor to Gangsta Boo's position as the token female member of Three 6 Mafia. The song pitted the two against one another in typical Dirty South style: La' Chat talking badly about Pat, he calling her a "chickenhead."

Pat's longtime legal skirmishes then began to catch up with him. During the interim period following the success of "Chickenhead," Pat struggled with legal problems stemming from a January 2001 parole violation, when police pulled him over for speeding and discovered two revolvers. On March 13 of that same year, a federal jury found him guilty of two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He had been on parole for aggravated robbery. Meanwhile, Loud continually pushed back the release date for Pat's fourth album, Layin' da Smack Down, until it finally arrived in the summer of 2002. Mixtape appearances and work with Three 6 Mafia bridged the four-year gap before Crook by da Book: The Fed Story (2006) arrived, followed by Walkin' Bank Roll (2007) on Koch. His 2009 effort Real Recognize Real was his first for the major label Asylum. The album featured the hit single "Keep It Hood" with special guest OJ da Juiceman.

In 2011 Project Pat was featured in the film ''Rhyme and Punishment'' a documentary that chronicles Rap artists who have done jail time. The film features Project Pat in interviews where he talks about his arrests and time spent in jail.

D'Juan Hart (born 1979), better known as Young Dro is an American Southern rapper from Bankhead, Georgia. He performed as Dro from 2000 until he signed to Grand Hustle Records in 2006, when he became known as Young Dro.

Early years

Young Dro was born Djuan Hart in Bankhead Atlanta, Georgia. Young Dro grew up the first oldest of his mother's five boys and somewhere amongst the middle seven of his father's 21 children. It was during his teen years that he befriended the now Grand Hustle/Atlantic recording artist T.I. Neither of the two took music seriously at the time. Young Dro did not even consider a career in music until another one of his friends, Chris 'Daddy Mack' Smith, scored platinum success as one half of early 1990s duo Kris Kross. To make his dream a reality, he first met with pioneering southern rapper Raheem the Dream in the late 1990s, who at the time had Drama and D4L front man Fabo signed to his local label. By the end of 2001, Young Dro had released the hit single 'Yes Sir' and regional hit album ''I Got That LOUD ''
