Sketching A Victorian Era Bristol Street From A Historic 1866 Photograph | Studio Vlog
Visit my Etsy shop to see the finished print: https://www.etsy.com/au/shop/DrawingsFromAnna
While wandering through Pinterest the other day, I stumbled across an old photograph from 1866 taken at the junction of Steep Street and Trenchart Street in Bristol, England. I loved the look of the gritty old buildings and the general composition of the photograph so much that I decided to try and recreate it through watercolour and ink! I also thought it would be a good challenge for me to try and paint something using a limited palette of basically grey, black and brown, and thus a new addition to my sketch book has been born!
Like I mentioned in the video, I'm SO happy with how this turned out that I decided to turn it into a print for my Etsy shop - so if you're at all interested, please take...

The Edwardian Inventions That Turned Normal Homes Into Death Traps | Hidden Killers | Timeline
The dawn of the 20th century and the reign of a new King ushered in an era of fresh inventions and innovations that transformed the way we lived. Electricity, refrigeration and a whole host of different materials promised to make life at home brighter, easier and more convenient. But a lack of understanding of the potential hazards meant that they frequently led to terrible accidents, horrendous injuries - and even death.
Dr Suzannah Lipscomb takes us back to an age when asbestos socks and radio-active toothpaste were welcomed into British homes. She reveals how their lethal qualities were discovered and why some of us are still living with the consequences of our Edwardian forbears' enthusiasm for untried and untested products.

DRIVING THRU BRISTOL PA
Bristol is a borough in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, 23 miles (37 km) northeast of Center City Philadelphia, opposite Burlington, New Jersey on the Delaware River. Bristol Borough predates Philadelphia, being settled in 1681 and first incorporated in 1720. After 1834, the town became very important to the development of the American Industrial Revolution as the terminus city of the Delaware Canal providing greater Philadelphia with the days High Tech Anthracite fuels from the Lehigh Canal via Easton. The canal and a short trip on the Delaware also gave the town access to the mineral resources available in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York via each of the Morris Canal, the Delaware and Hudson Canal, and the Delaware and Raritan Canal, and connected the community to those markets and trade...

Although its charter was revised in 1905, the original charter remains in effect, making Bristol Borough the third oldest borough in Pennsylvania after Chester and Germantown. The canal and a short trip on the Delaware also gave the town access to the mineral resources available in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York via each of the Morris Canal, the Delaware and Hudson Canal, and the Delaware and Raritan Canal, and connected the community to those markets and trade from New York City. These were among the factors spurring development of Bristol and nearby towns, explaining in part the industries which developed in the region.
