Anywhere But Lisburn
Anywhere But Lisburn, A hive of activity is an awesome documentary about the town of Lisburn. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll ask for a refund. No one would think any less of you. It's satire, but it's also true!

IRA Lisburn "Charity Run" Attack (1988)
On 15 June 1988 an unmarked military van carrying six British Army soldiers was blown up by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (Provisional IRA) at Market Square in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. The explosion took place at the end of a charity marathon run in which the soldiers had participated. All six soldiers were killed in the attack - four outright, one on his way to hospital and another later on in hospital. Lisburn hosted the headquarters of the British Army in Northern Ireland. Four of the dead were from the Royal Signals regiment whilst the other two were from the Green Howards and Royal Army Ordnance Corps regiments respectively. A booby-trap bomb was hidden under the Ford Transit van in which the soldiers were travelling, and was designed in such a way that the blast had gone upwards to cause maximum damage to the vehicle. Eleven civilian bystanders were injured, including a two-year-old child and 80-year-old man.

Jack McMaster - A Lisburn Folksong, by The Lisburn Busker
Original composition written & performed by The Lisburn Busker. Someone once told me there were no folk songs about my home town of Lisburn. I'm sure it isn't true, but I decided to write one, anyway. Based on personal memories (all true), this simple ditty recalls milk delivered every morning to the doorstep by horse-and-cart. The footage (which is not as old as me, I should point out!) was taken by the Lisburn Camera Club in the (early?) 1950's. The complete film can be seen at: www.lisburn.com Thank you for watching. Recorded on 4-track (analogue) cassette-tape.

Titanic 100th Anniversary: Lisburn Mix Party
The Titanic sank on her maiden transatlantic voyage 11 months after her launch, with the loss of more than 1500 lives, when she struck an iceberg. Among the invited guests at the commemoration were schoolchildren and representatives from the four other cities and towns directly connected to the Titanic story - Cherbourg in France, Cobh (formerly Queenstown) in Co Cork, Liverpool and Southampton. The Harlandic and Queen's Victoria male voice choirs sang a number of hymns during the half-hour service close to the almost-complete £100 million Titanic visitors centre, which is set to open ahead of next year's centenary of the liner's sinking in 1912. Earlier, a major new exhibition on the Titanic opened at the nearby Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, boasting some artefacts recovered from the liner that have never been put on public display before. Descendants of many of the men who helped build the ship, some of whom sailed on the first voyage and died in the maritime disaster, attended the service. Lord Mayor of Belfast, councillor Niall O Donnghaile, said Belfast's role in the Titanic story had been overlooked in the past. "The Titanic story is probably one of the most fascinating, amazing, poignant, thought-provoking and absorbing tales from the last century, if not the last millennium," he said. "For too long, Belfast's part in the Titanic story, and the role of the people of Belfast in bringing Titanic to life, has been neglected. "Over the past few years, the city that ...
