Sant Jñāneshwar / Sant Dnyāneshwar (1275-1296) (ज्ञानेश्वर in Marathi) (also known as Jñanadeva - ज्ञानदेव ) was a 13th century marathi saint, poet, philosopher and a yogi of Nath tradition. His works Bhavartha deepika teeka (a commentary on Bhagavad Gita, popularly known as "Dnyaneshwari"), and Amrutanubhav are considered to be milestones in marathi literature. After composing 'Amritanubhava', Dnyaneshwar went to visit the holy places along with Namdeo and other saints of his time. In his Abhangas known as "Tirthawali" Namdeo has given a graphic description of this their visit to the holy places from which we know that Dnyaneshwar had visited many holy places of his day. Samadhi "Dnyaneshwar entered into "Sanjeevan Samadhi", a yogic path to salvation at the age of 21 in Alandi, Maharashtra". After completing their visits to the holy places, Dnyaneshwar felt that the mission of his life was over. He therefore, expressed his intention to take live Samadhi. When all his colleagues knew about this they felt sorry that this ocean of knowledge was leaving them; but Dnyaneshwar was firm on his decision. Ultimately, on the 13th day of the second half of Kartik in Shaka Dnyaneshwar Maharaj took live Samadhi at Alandi. An account of this heartrending incident is graphically pictured by Namdeo in his Abhangas known as "Samadheeche Abhanga". After setting of this Sun of Knowledge, pitch darkness spread before the eyes of Dnyaneshwara's brothers and sister. After ...

Aaji soniyacha dinu - Sant Dnyaneshwar - Lata Mangeshkar
I should end with abhang in Bhairavi as the tradition goes, the last upload! Dnyaneshwar and his siblings lived in later part of 13th century (1275-1293). They had horrible childhood being ostracized by the orthodox Brahmins after their father became "Sanyasi" (ascetic), but later changed his mind and reentered normal household. Both his parents committed suicide hoping to spear the children the wrath of the community. However the siblings suffered many years of hardships. Dnyaneshwar was inducted into "Nath tradition" of 11th century under the tutelage of his elder brother Nivruti Nath. Later people realized Dnyaneshwar's greatness after he translated Bhagvad Gita into Marathi, his seminal literary work -Dnyaneshwari. He also composed many devotional "abhangas" (hymns) which were sung by people for centuries and preserved by oral tradition. While the language of Dnyaneshwari is in archaic Marathi of 800 years ago and difficult to understand, language of devotional hymns is easier to understand being modified gradually by oral tradition for centuries into more modern Marathi. These hymns espouse Dnyaneshwar's Advait Vedantic philosophy (oneness with Brahman- Universal reality). Many of his abhagas are still sung today after 800 years by Warkaris (pilgrims) and common people of Maharashtra. In the year 1293, after short life of mere 23 years, yogic Dnyaneshwar gave up his life by entering into state of "Samadhi" (suspended consciousness in meditation).
