BlackBerry 10 delayed, RIM future in doubt after bleak earnings report
SUBSCRIBE to Next Media Animation: www.youtube.com BlackBerry fans: It just got worse. BlackBerry maker Research in Motion (RIM) announced that the BlackBerry 10 smartphone and BlackBerry 10 operating system's launches will be delayed, 30 percent of RIM employees will be laid off and that RIM posted a loss of $518 million in the latest quarter. Facebook: www.facebook.com Webpage: www.nma.tv Twitter @nmatv: twitter.com Tumblr: nmatv.tumblr.com The Waterloo, Ontario company announced the bad news in its fiscal first quarter report on Thursday, prompting shares to tumble 15 percent to $7.75 in late trading. BlackBerry 10 was widely seen as the company's last hope to catch up with rivals Apple and Android. Smartphones running Google's Android platform accounted for 59 percent of the global market in the first quarter of 2012, with Apple's iPhones taking 23 percent. BlackBerry's share of the global market was 6.4 percent, compared with 13.6% a year ago. BlackBerry 10's launch has been postponed until the first three months of 2013, a delay of seven to nine months. Within that time, Apple will launch a new iPhone, Android developers will launch new phones running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean and more Windows Phone 8 phones will be released. By the time BlackBerry 10 comes out it may be too late. In an earnings call with analysts, CEO Thorsten Heins said building the BlackBerry 10 "has proven to be more challenging and time consuming than anticipated," and that a as result ...

Project Aura: Bicycle Safety Lighting System
Riding at night can be a daunting and dangerous task; many biking commuters are faced with the issue of being obscured when riding on the streets. Visibility at night is a vital component of biker safety, hence the need for reflectors and attachable lights. However, some of these devices are not always effective especially from the side.
We created a system that requires very little rider input and maintenance, while increasing the visual footprint of bikers from all directions especially from the side. We accomplished this by expanding the surface area of light emitted through the use of RGB LEDs inside the rims of the wheels that change from red when slowing down to white when at cruising speed.
It should be noted that Project Aura is a lighting system which allows a rider to be seen, but does not replace a forward facing headlight to illuminate the roadway. By law (in Pennsylvania, the laws vary state by state) a front headlamp and rear reflector are required, use of a rear blinky is up to the rider‘s discretion.

Grand Old Party
From the catalogue (available at http://mepler.com)
Dear Voter,
Whether you’re Democrat or Republican, you’ve probably grown
weary of the endless circus that is the electoral process. It is painful.
But it shouldn’t be that way. As a member of a free democratic state
you should feel exhilarating pleasure when exercising your right to
choose your leader.
Grand Old Party demonstrates that as a people united, our opinion
has real volume. When we approve of a candidate, they swell with
power. When we deem them unworthy, they are diminished and left
hanging in the wind. We guard the gate! It opens and closes at our
will. How wide is up to us.
In an age of information, we rely on hard facts. Each of the shapes
you see here come directly from poll data collected by Gallup. This
data reects approval ratings for each GOP candidate among registered
Republican voters from December 10, 2011 to April 1, 2012.
Each shape’s girth is a reflection of popularity while their height is a
reflection of time.
The contours of these delightful shapes conjure up the waves of
amber grain and those lapping at the rim of our great nation spanning
from sea to shining sea. As the battle for the Presidency rails
on, we must remember that Americans may may have achieved
freedom through war, but they are also a people of love. After all, in
the end all we have is each other.

TAT co-founder leaves RIM before BlackBerry 10 launch
Hampus Jakobsson, the co-founder of Astonishing Tribe (TAT), announced on Twitter that he is leaving Research In Motion (RIM). The BlackBerry maker had acquired TAT in 2010 to develop the user interface for future devices running on QNX platform, which RIM had bought earlier. TAT, a Sweden-based user interface design company, had designed the UI for the PlayBook and the team is working on the UI elements of the upcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system on which RIM's future depends. BlackBerry 10 Released at RIM's BlackBerry World 2012 Conference
Follow: @SlateViral, Facebook.com/SlateVideo Watch more: Youtube.com/slatester, SlateV.com Can Research in Motion get moving again? The company is unveiling its new BlackBerry 10 phone and operating system at its large BlackBerry World 2012 conference in Florida this week, in the hopes the smartphone maker can keep its head above water among market seas currently ruled by iPhones and Droids. New CEO Thorsten Heins delivered the keynote address to the conference while nearly 2000 stripped-down versions of the new BlackBerry 10 were handed out to developers. While incomplete, RIM representatives touted the gadget's new virtual keyboard, which reportedly adapts to the way each user types, and a camera that has a time warp function to fix your snapshot when your subjects blink. RIM plans to sell the phones later this year, after more application support is built for the BlackBerry 10. Is the big unveiling at the three-day conference enough to keep the Canadian company in the smart phone fight? In early market trading, RIM shares were down over 3 percent.
