Preadolescence is a stage of human development following early childhood and prior to adolescence. It may be defined as ending with puberty or with the beginning of the teenage stage, the time frames in which adolescence is considered to begin. In terms of age in years, preadolescence is generally defined as the period from 9-14 years. Dictionary definitions generally designate it as 10-13 years. One can also distinguish 'middle childhood and preadolescence' - middle childhood from approximately 5-8 years, as opposed to 'the time children reach preadolescence (age 9-14 years).'

'Preadolescence brings its own challenges and anxieties and unlike most of the preceding phases, crucial elements of preadolescence are starkly different for boys and girls.'

Span

The point at which a child becomes an adolescent is defined by the onset of puberty or by the beginning of the teenage stage. Adolescence is also viewed as ending with the teenage stage. However, in some individuals (particularly females), puberty begins in the preadolescence years, and adolescence may extend a few years beyond the teenage years in others (typically males). Studies indicate that 'the onset of puberty has been one year earlier with each generation since the 1950s.'

There is no exact agreement as to when preadolescence starts and ends, and research suggests that 'chronological time...is by no means identical with developmental time - the duration of the "inner" stages of growth' - or with physiological time.

Psychological development

Of the 'two major socializing agents in children's lives: the family environment...and formal educational institutions,' it is 'the family in its function a primary socializer of the child' that predominates in the first five years of life: middle childhood by contrast is characterized by 'a child's readiness for school...being self-assured and interested; knowing what kind of behavior is expected...being able to wait, to follow directions, and getting along with other children.'

Preadolescent children in fact have a different view of the world from younger children in many significant ways. Typically, theirs is a more realistic view of life than the intense, fantasy-oriented world of earliest childhood. Preadolescents have more mature, sensible, realistic thoughts and actions: 'the most "sensible" stage of development...the child is a much ''less emotional being'' now.' They will often have developed a sense of ' ''intentionality''. The wish and capacity to have an impact, and to act upon that with persistence'; and will have a more developed sense of looking into the future and seeing effects of their actions (as opposed to early childhood where children often do not worry about their future). This can include more realistic job expectations ("I want to be an engineer when I grow up", as opposed to "I want to be a wizard"). Middle children generally show more investment 'in ''control over external reality'' through the acquisition of knowledge and competence': where they do have worries, these may be more a fear of kidnappings, rapes, and scary media events, as opposed to fantasy things (e.g., witches, monsters, ghosts).

Preadolescents may well view human relationships differently (e.g. they may notice the flawed, human side of authority figures). Alongside that, they may begin to develop a sense of self-identity, and to have increased feelings of independence: 'may feel an individual, no longer "just one of the family."' A different view on morality can emerge; and the middle child will also show more ''cooperativeness''. The ability to balance one's own needs with those of others in group activities'

Greater responsibility within the family can also appear, as middle children become responsible for younger siblings and relatives, as with babysitting; while preadolescents may start caring about what they look like and what they are wearing.

Middle children often begin to experience infatuation, limerence, puppy Love, or love itself , though arguably at least with 'girls carrying out all the romantic interest....preadolescent girls' romantic pursuits often seem to be more aggressive than affectionate.'

Home from home

Where development has been optimal, preadolescents 'come to school for something to be added to their lives; they want to learn lessons...which can lead to their eventually working in a job like their parents.' When earlier developmental stages have gone astray, however, then, on the principle that 'if you miss a stage, you can always go through it later,' some middle children 'come to school for another purpose...[not] to learn but to find a home from home...a stable emotional situation in which they can exercise their own emotional liability, a group of which they can gradually become a part.'

Divorce

'Children at the threshold of adolescence...in the nine-to-twelve-year-old group' would seem to have particular vulnerabilities to parental separation. Among such problems were the very 'eagerness of these youngsters to be co-opted into the parental battling; their willingness to take sides...and the intense, compassionate, caretaking relations which led these youngsters to attempt to rescue a distressed parent often to their own detriment'.

Media

Preadolescents may well be more exposed to popular culture than younger children and have interests based on internet trends, television shows and movies (no longer just cartoons), fashion, technology, and music. Preadolescents generally prefer certain brands, and are a heavily targeted market of many advertisers. Their tendency to buy brand-name items may be due to a desire to fit in, although the desire is not as strong as it is with teenagers.

Studies also show that 'pre-adolescents...reported frequent encounters with sexual material in the media, valued the information received from it, and used it as a learning resource...and evaluated such content through what they perceived to be sexual morality.'

Freud

'Freud called this stage the ''latency'' period to indicate that sexual feelings and interest went underground...the ''feelings'' that create that first "eternal triangle" with the parents fade, and free energy for other interests and activities.' Erik H. Erikson confirmed that 'violent drives are normally dormant...a lull before the storm of puberty, when all the earlier drives re-emerge in a new combination, to be brought under the dominance of genitality.'

Latency period children can then direct more of their energy into asexual pursuits such as school, athletics, and same-sex friendships: middle childhood especially is marked by 'the importance of school, teams, classes, friends, gangs and organised activities...and the adults who run those.' Nevertheless recent research suggests that 'most children do not cease sexual development, interest and behavior' at this time: rather, they 'cease to share their interest with adults and are less frequently observed.' Because 'they've learned the rules...[they] fit in with the grown-up's ''belief'' that they're not interested. But the curiosity about it all continues, and there's quite a lot of experimenting going on between them.' alongside other pursuits

But while the eight year old still has 'years to wait until puberty, adolescence and finally sexual maturity...a sort of lull before puberty arrives,' with preadolescence proper (9-12), and the move forward from middle childhood, what have been called 'the introspective and social concerns of the prepubescent' tend to come more to the fore. Clearly 'few experiences are more prominent in the lives of preadolescents than the onset of puberty'; so that 'at eleven or twelve you're just reaching the end of a long period during which change was steady and incremental': Freud's latency years.

Gender relations

'A greater complexity in gender relation in preadolescence' clearly develops. Whereas 'three-year-olds say about half their friends are of the opposite sex...by age seven almost no boys or girls say they have a best friend of the opposite sex. These separate universes intersect little until teenagers start dating.'

Preteen and tween

A preteen or a preteenager is a person under the age of 12. Generally, the term is restricted to those close to reaching age 12, especially age 11. Tween is an American neologism and marketing term for preteen. A blend of ''between'' and ''teen''.

The term was previously used in J. R. R. Tolkien's 1954 novel ''The Lord of the Rings'' to refer to Hobbits in their twenties: "''...tweens'' as Hobbits called the irresponsible twenties between childhood and the coming of age at thirty-three." In this context, the word is really either a shortened version of ''between'' or a portmanteau of ''teen'' and ''twenty'', and in either case has no connection to "teens," preteens or the American marketing niche.

In the 1938 film "Love Finds Andy Hardy", Judy Garland sings a song lamenting being an "inbetween". Too young to be a teen that can date but too old to be a child. The movie was part of the Andy Hardy series starring Mickey Rooney in the title role.

Graham David Fellows (born 22 May 1959, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England) is an English comedy actor and musician, best known for creating the characters of John Shuttleworth and Jilted John.

Early life

Fellows attended the King Edward VII School in Sheffield (when it had newly become a comprehensive), where he was the first Pupil Governor of the school. He studied drama at Manchester Polytechnic

Jilted John

Fellows first came to prominence as Jilted John, a character who had a hit single in 1978 that was named after his own alter ego. The single was performed in the aggressive, minimalist style of the then-prevailing punk style, but with poppier influences, somewhat akin to the Buzzcocks and "Up the Junction", a docupop song by Difford and Tilbrook of Squeeze written around the same time. The novelty hit was most memorable for its aggressive lyrics, sung out-of-tune, a first-person narrative of a bitter teenager named John whose girlfriend Julie had left him for another man named Gordon, "just 'cause he's better lookin' than me/just 'cause he's cool and trendy". John wails that "Gordon is a moron", a phrase that became briefly famous in Britain, along with "I was so upset that I cried all the way to the chipshop". The character of Gordon on the record sleeve was played by Bernard Kelly, who had met Graham in his drama club. He appears on the record singing the chorus as well appearing as Gordon on ''Top of the Pops''. Bernard also wrote the chorus to the B side "Going Steady" which was originally released as the A side on Rabid Records.

Produced by Martin Hannett for his Rabid Records label, the song was first played on national radio by John Peel who commented that if the single was promoted by a major record label he could see its being a huge hit. This proved to be the case when it was picked up by EMI International. The song was introduced by David Jensen on ''Top of the Pops'' as "one of the most bizarre singles of the decade", and the song reached number 4 in the UK Singles Chart.

Two follow-up singles were released the same year under the guise of 'Gordon the Moron'. A pseudo-concept album also produced by Hannett followed, entitled ''True Love Stories'', charting John's love-life - and two further singles, neither of which were hits. No other recordings followed these, making Jilted John a one-hit wonder. However a cash-in single by Julie and Gordon sold moderately well as did lapel badges bearing the legends "Gordon is a moron" and "Gordon is not a moron". The phrase has also been used politically, referring to ex-Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Fellows revived the Jilted John character at the 2008 Big Chill festival, along with Bernard Kelly, premiering a new song about Keira Knightley's ultra-thin figure.

John Shuttleworth

In 1986 Fellows created John Shuttleworth, an aspiring singer-songwriter from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, with a quiet manner and slightly nerdish tendencies. His musical talents are usually expressed through his Yamaha PSS portable keyboard, and include such greats as "Pigeons in Flight" – a song which Shuttleworth attempted to have selected for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Newer characters

Two more recent Fellows creations followed, firstly Brian Appleton, a rock musicologist and media studies lecturer from a college of further education in the Newcastle-under-Lyme area although originally he hails from Selly Oak in Birmingham. His girlfriend Wendy is an aromatherapist, but unfortunately upon qualifying she became allergic to the essential oils she uses. He is convinced that he has been instrumental in helping many rock acts to achieve megastardom and yet received no credit for his efforts, such as being the cause for the gap in "Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)" by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel, inadvertently launching the vocal career of Phil Collins at a failed audition for the lead singer of Genesis after the departure of Peter Gabriel and giving Howard Jones the idea for using a mime artist in the hit "New Song" while working opposite him at a Clingfilm factory in High Wycombe. Brian also claimed to have a significant bearing on the career of the Thompson Twins (for example he inspired the hit 'Love On Your Side' while directing Alannah Currie towards her hat which he accidentally knocked off her head).

His newest character is Dave Tordoff, a builder from Goole specialising in 'laser screed' concrete flooring. He has ambitions to become a popular after dinner speaker having seen how easy it was for Kevin Keegan. The topic he enjoys discussing the most is his accumulated wealth, followed by life on his ranch-style property with wife Mandy and daughter Courtney. Hobbies earmarked for 2007 included falconry.

Other work

Graham Fellows released one more album in 1985 under his own name titled ''Love at the Hacienda''. It was well received but was not a commercial success. It does, however, have a cult following in Japan.

Fellows appeared as Alan Stephens, a St John Ambulance man in ''Time Gentlemen Please''

Prior to creating Shuttleworth, Fellows appeared in ''Coronation Street'' as Les Charlton, a young biker chasing the affections of married Gail Platt (then Tilsley). During his fame as Jilted John, Fellows had first appeared on ''Coronation Street'' in a very brief cameo role in which he meets Gail, single at the time, on the street in Manchester. In 2007 he appeared in an episode of ITV's ''Heartbeat''.

He presented a programme of his favourite poetry and prose on Radio 4's ''With Great Pleasure'' in January 2007.

In July 2009, he read Radio 4's ''Book of the Week'', ''You're Coming With Me Lad'' by Mike Pannett, a Metropolitan Police officer's semi-autobiographical account of his experiences in the North Yorkshire town of Malton.

A one-off UK 7" single was released in 1980 under the band name Going Red - "Some Boys"/"Tune Kevin's Strings" - with a picture sleeve depicting Graham in the shower, fully clothed. The band consisted of Graham Fellows (vocals/guitar, as "Mervin Cloud"), Russell Giant (percussion) and Francis Charlton (bass guitar). Chris Sievey was also involved, possibly pseudonymously as one of the aforementioned names. The A-side was an up-tempo new wave-style rocker, whilst the humorous B-side features fake crowd noises and predictable heavy metal riffing.

He owns a disused church on the Orkney island of Rousay, which he intends to turn into an "artists refuge".

Tila Nguyen (born October 24, 1981), better known by her stage names Tila Tequila and Miss Tila, is a Singaporean-born American model and television personality. She is known for her appearances in the men's magazines ''Stuff'', ''Maxim'', ''Penthouse'', her role as host of the Fuse TV show featuring performance striptease, ''Pants-Off Dance-Off'' and her position as the most popular artist on MySpace (according to page views) circa April 2006, along with Jeffree Star. She was raised in Houston, Texas, and now lives in Los Angeles, California. Her MTV reality show ''A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila'' aired for two seasons.

Early life and education

Nguyen was born in Singapore, where her family emigrated from Vietnam after the Vietnam War. Her mother is half French descent, while her father is full Vietnamese. Her siblings are Daniel and Terri. When she was one year old, she and her family lived in a neighborhood in Houston until they were admitted to a gated community run by a strict Buddhist temple. The family left the community when Nguyen was eight.

While in middle school, Nguyen became a tomboy and was eventually sent to a boarding school for six months for her combative behavior before transferring to another school. While in high school, she used her sister's identification card to enter nightclubs, where she began taking drugs and joined a gang. In her memoir, she would later explain that she felt "confused" and "lost" from various personal family and environmental issues and lost her virginity at 15. She turned to writing poems in an attempt to release powerful emotions, and friends outside the gang briefly helped turn her life around. However, her past caught up with her, and she fled to Queens, New York, at the age of 16. While still 16, she experienced a drive-by shooting in Houston. She reports having become pregnant and suffering a miscarriage the following year.

Nguyen graduated from Alief Hastings High School in 2000. She has cited the violent adolescence she had in Texas as her reason for becoming a model and moving to California in 2001. In a March 2003 interview, she revealed that she has taken some college classes but does not have a degree, stating, "I didn't want to go to college for an actual degree because there's nothing out there I like besides doing something that involves the entertainment industry."

Career

Modeling and acting

Nguyen's career began at the age of 18 when she was discovered at the Sharpstown Mall by a ''Playboy'' scout and was offered a chance to model nude for the magazine. She did a test shoot, then eventually moved to Southern California and was featured as ''Playboy''’s Cyber Girl of the week on April 22, 2002, and soon thereafter she became the first Asian Cyber Girl of the Month. A few more pictorials for the magazine followed.

Nguyen gained further popularity through the import racing scene. She has been featured on the cover of ''Import Tuner'' magazine, at car shows such as Hot Import Nights, and in the video game ''Street Racing Syndicate''. She was also the most frequent host on the first season of Fuse TV's dance show, ''Pants-Off Dance-Off'', on which a group of contestants strip to music videos.

Nguyen was featured on the cover of the April 2006 issue of ''Stuff'' magazine; in the interview, she claimed that her nickname "Tila Tequila" came about when she experimented with alcohol at the age of thirteen. She appeared on the August 2006 ''Maxim'' UK cover, was named #88 in their Hot 100 List, and also appeared in the December 2007 issue. She was ranked #100 on the Maxim Hot 100 list in 2008.

Nguyen made an appearance as one of the 12 strangers in the first game on the April 6, 2007 episode of NBC's game show ''Identity''. On March 4, 2007 she made a cameo appearance on the show "War At Home." She also appeared as a Hooters Girl in the 2007 film ''I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry''.

Nguyen has been featured on the front page of magazines such as Penthouse, King, Blender, and most recently Steppin' Out

Nguyen has provided her voice to shows such as ''Robot Chicken'' and ''The Cleveland Show''.

Reality television

In May 2007, Nguyen began filming for a reality show which first aired on MTV on October 9, 2007, as ''A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila''. The program is a bisexual-themed dating show where 16 straight men and 16 lesbian women compete for Nguyen's affections, the twist being that the contestants were not aware of her bisexuality until the end of the first episode. The ten-episode series is produced by SallyAnn Salsano and MTV.

The show led to a heated online debate between Nguyen and conservative Christians after an article appeared on ''The Christian Post'' on September 13, 2007. After seeing the article, Nguyen wrote an impassioned response in her blog on September 28, 2007, criticizing churches for "bashing" the gay community while thanking God for saving her life.

The show premiered for a second season in April 2008 and became a popular gossip subject in Asian media, such as ''AsianWeek''. The season finale premiered July 8, 2008, the winner being Kristy Morgan who declined her "shot at love". A new season of the series was announced. However, bisexual twin women were the bachelorettes.

Before ''A Shot at Love'', Nguyen was a contestant on VH1's ''Surviving Nugent'', a reality TV show where participants performed compromising tasks and stunts for rock star Ted Nugent.

Online business ventures

In July 2001, Nguyen started up her website entitled "Tila's Hot Spot". Originally the site featured information, quotes, blog, and pictorials requiring adult verification and a monthly fee. Later, the site was revamped to feature all-ages content and information to promote her career, business ventures, personal information, and a premium membership section including videos, non-nude picture galleries, blogs, and chat sessions. In 2008 the site was transformed into a social network.

During 2005, Nguyen launched Tilafashion.com, a site featuring her custom line of clothing for men and women. In 2006, Nguyen created a website entitled "Tila Zone," which features content to use on Myspace and other social networking websites including layouts, widgets, and clipart.

In December 2009, Nguyen partnered with Joe Francis to launch a dating site called "TilasHotSpotDating.com". The site is for people ages 18 and up. The site includes a free membership with basic access to the site, and paid membership which includes access to other areas of the site. Nguyen has taken part in webcam chats on the site.

In 2010, Nguyen launched a celebrity blog site, MissTilaOMG.com.

Music

At age 20, Nguyen acted on her interest in rock music and started looking for bands willing to let her join. She eventually assembled a band called Beyond Betty Jean, for which she was singer and songwriter. Following the breakup of Beyond Betty Jean, Nguyen started working in recording studios to sharpen her vocal skills and wrote music. Later, she became the lead singer of a band called Jealousy, which released a few songs online before breaking up. Around this time, she began to employ the stage name of "Tila Tequila".

In April 2006 during the taping of an interview with MTV's ''Total Request Live'' VJs, will.i.am announced that Nguyen had been signed to the Will.I.Am music group, a record label under A&M; Records. Despite this major-label signing, Nguyen independently released her first single "I Love U" through iTunes on February 27, 2007, justifying the independent release through her desire to become famous by herself. She also shot a music video for the song.

In March 2007, Washington-based record label The Saturday Team released an EP called ''Sex'', by Tila Tequila. On July 27, 2007, Italian website MusicBlob reported that The Saturday Team and distributor Icon Music Entertainment Services sued Nguyen over breaching her contract related to the album. However, Nguyen claimed in a MySpace bulletin that the EP was not authorized for release by her, and was removed from most retailers. The Saturday Team won a legal case, making ''Sex'' available for digital purchase.

On October 9, 2007, Nguyen released her second official single, "Stripper Friends". A video premiered via Yahoo! Music on February 26, 2008 and was released to iTunes on March 4, 2008. The single failed to chart. In April 2008, the single "Paralyze" and its accompanying music video were released via Yahoo! Music and iTunes.

On April 7, 2009 the "''I Love U Remixes''" EP was released to digital music retailers.

In April 2010, Nguyen officially released "I Fucked The DJ", along with an edited version entitled "I Love My DJ", through iTunes. The songs were released under the name "Miss Tila".

In May 2010, Nguyen released an EP to iTunes entitled "Welcome to the Darkside". The EP includes a cover of Depeche Mode's song "Blue Dress" and Yoko Ono's song "Walking on Thin Ice". Tila began a tour supporting the new EP in 2010, and at one of her tour stops in August 2010, Nguyen appeared at the Gathering of the Juggalos, a music festival founded by hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse. She was repeatedly pelted with rocks and bottles among other objects, and she vowed to take legal action against the organizers and promoters for the event.

Book

On December 2, 2008, Nguyen released a self-help book, ''Hooking Up with Tila Tequila: A Guide to Love, Fame, Happiness, Success, and Being the Life of the Party'' (ISBN 9781439101537).

Record Label and Management Firm

Nguyen has started her own record label called "Tila Tequila Records", and recently signed Raz-B of B2K. Apart from her record label, Nguyen has also started a management firm called "Little Miss Trendsetter Management LLC".

Personal life

On September 6, 2009, Nguyen was allegedly choked and restrained by former boyfriend Shawne Merriman, who was later arrested. San Diego district attorney Bonnie Dumanis decided not to charge Merriman after her office spent three days reviewing reports from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. On November 17, 2009, Nguyen sued Merriman for $1.5 million. Several weeks later, Merriman countersued, alleging intentional interference with contract, unfair competition, and trademark infringement. She declined to respond to his more recent actions, and a default judgment was entered in his favor for $2 million.

In November 2009, Nguyen announced on Twitter that she is a lesbian, rather than bisexual, as she had previously proclaimed herself to be.

On December 9, 2009, Nguyen stated she was engaged to heiress Casey Johnson and was photographed with a diamond ring. On January 4, 2010, Johnson, who had long suffered from Type I Diabetes, was found dead. On February 4, 2010, the Los Angeles Coroner's Office announced that Johnson "died from diabetic ketoacidosis, a life-threatening condition caused by a lack of insulin and high blood sugar". She was reported to have neglected to take her medication, and died naturally. Nguyen has arranged plans to seek legal custody of Casey Johnson's adopted daughter, Ava.

Courtney Scott McGee (born December 12, 1984) is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the middleweight division. A professional MMA competitor since 2007, McGee mostly fought in local promotions in Utah before signing with the UFC.

McGee is a former heroin addict, who recovered and has been clean since April 2006. McGee later became a martial artist. He has trained in wrestling and karate, having competed in over 100 karate bouts. McGee also holds a professional boxing record of 2–0, after competing between MMA fights.

McGee was the winner of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's eleventh season of The Ultimate Fighter in 2010, winning the competition on June 19, 2010.

Mixed martial arts career

Early career

Court McGee participated in high school wrestling at Layton High School. Later in life, after an absence from the sport, McGee returned to Layton High School to become an assistant wrestling coach. McGee also holds a background in karate, in which he has amassed over 100 bouts.

McGee started his MMA career in 2007 in his home state of Utah, compiling a record of 11–1, with three technical knockouts and five submission wins. Two notable fights occurred during this period, with a submission win over DaMarques Johnson and a loss to Jeremy Horn.

In September 2008, McGee faced Isidro Gonzalez at the "Throwdown Showdown" event in Orem, Utah. McGee won the match after a unanimous decision.

McGee was scheduled to compete in December 2008 against Ray Lazama for the Gladiator Challenge Middleweight title. However, the bout never transpired for unknown reasons. McGee instead faced Dayle Jarvis in July 2009. In what would turn out to be his final appearance on the local MMA circuit, McGee won by a Technical Knockout (TKO) over his opponent in under four minutes.

The Ultimate Fighter

In March 2010, McGee was announced as part of the eleventh season of ''The Ultimate Fighter''. In the elimination round, McGee narrowly defeated Seth Baczynski after going to a sudden victory round. McGee was later picked by Chuck Liddell as his sixth pick and twelfth overall.

McGee was then defeated by the show's number one pick Nick Ring in the sixth preliminary fight. After two rounds, the judges declared the fight a victory for Ring via majority decision (20–18, 19–19, 20–18). The fight was controversial; Dana White and Chuck Liddell both stated that the fight should have gone to a third round.

When Rich Attonito broke his hand, his spot in the quarter-finals became open. Due to the controversial loss to Ring, Dana White selected McGee to fight in his place. In the quarter-finals, McGee was set to have a rematch with Ring, but Ring pulled out of the competition due to a knee injury. James Hammortree stepped in as Ring's replacement. Early in the second round, McGee submitted Hammortree with a rare standing guillotine choke.

In the semi-finals he faced teammate Brad Tavares to earn a spot in the live finale. After a fairly even first two rounds, McGee dropped Tavares late in the third round with a left hook and locked in a fight-ending rear naked choke.

This advanced him to the TUF 11 finale where he faced Team Ortiz/Franklin fighter, Kris McCray in the main event. McGee spent half of his training camp away from his usual gym "Victory MMA", instead preferring to stick with his Ultimate Fighter coach, Chuck Liddell at The Pit.

McGee defeated McCray by submission in the second round with a rear naked choke, making him the winner of the Ultimate Fighter Season 11. Court was also awarded the Submission of the Night award.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

McGee's first post-TUF fight was against UFC veteran, Ryan Jensen at UFC 121. Early in the first round, McGee was hit with a stiff shot that dropped him and later suffered a minor cut below his eye. In the second round, Jensen began to visibly tire and after being hit, began to bleed from the nose. McGee won the second round after a takedown just before the bell. In the third round, McGee successfully executed a takedown and a full mount, where he secured an arm triangle choke to force the tapout at 1:21 of the final round.

McGee was expected to face Jesse Bongfeldt on June 11, 2011 at UFC 131, but was reportedly forced out of the bout due to a knee injury. Matt Serra-trained fighter Chris Weidman stepped up to take McGee's place on the UFC 131 fight card against Bongfeldt.

McGee is expected to face Dong Yi Yang on September 17, 2011 at UFC Fight Night 25.

Boxing career

In addition to his Mixed Martial Arts career, McGee has also compiled a 2–0 record as a professional boxer in the cruiserweight division. Both fights took place in 2008, in between his MMA career.

His first fight was against Francisco Antonio Alacantara in May 2008. McGee defeated him via unanimous decision (40–35, 40–36, 39–36) in a four round fight, having defeated Hank Weiss in an MMA fight just days earlier.

This was followed up by another unanimous decision victory (40–36, 40–36, 39–37) over Freddie Martinez. McGee revealed in June 2010 that this fight took place during his bachelor weekend.

Personal life

McGee and his wife Chelsea have two sons, Isaac and Crew Charles. The second son's middle name was taken from McGee's friend and ''Ultimate Fighter'' coach, Chuck Liddell's first name.

McGee is a former heroin addict and in 2005, he was declared clinically dead after overdosing on heroin at his cousin's house before he was resuscitated. McGee had to learn to walk, speak and function again after his first overdose. McGee said that his path into drug and alcohol abuse began when he started to hang out with "the wrong people - drinking, partying." After suffering an injury to his clavicle and elbow, McGee became dependent to painkillers, which he later mixed with alcohol. McGee experimented with cocaine and heroin, before overdosing. After his near-death experience, McGee suffered a couple of relapses. On an episode of ''The Ultimate Fighter'', McGee said "I took one drink in Vegas and I ended up in Iowa four days later with no pants on and a long sleeve shirt, looking for meth."

Since April 2006, McGee has been clean and uses his story to encourage those who may be struggling with addictions of their own.
