Saltaire, West Yorkshire, UK - 9th June, 2012 (1080 HD)
Saltaire is a Victorian model village within the City of Bradford Metropolitan District, West Yorkshire, England, by the River Aire and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. UNESCO has designated the village as a World Heritage Site, and it is an Anchor Point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage. Salt built neat stone houses for his workers (much better than the slums of Bradford), wash-houses with tap water, bath-houses, a hospital and an institute for recreation and education, with a library, a reading room, a concert hall, billiard room, science laboratory and a gymnasium. The village had a school for the children of the workers, almshouses, allotments, a park and a boathouse. Because of this combination of houses, employment and social services the original town is often seen as an important development in the history of 19th century urban planning. In December 2001, Saltaire was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This means that the government has a duty to protect the site. The village has survived remarkably complete, but further protection is needed as the village is blighted by traffic through the Aire Valley, an important east-west route. A bypass is proposed to relieve traffic pressure. Roberts Park, on the north side of the river, has ...

The phoenix has risen (Central viaduct explored)
We set out to explore the mysterious central viaduct in the city center that has once again risen up from the ashes now that Monkbridge has been knocked down. Central viaduct has hid behind Monkbridge works for a 100yrs. Make the most of this oppurtunity to view it as new developements in the area will once again hide this magnificent structure forever. Built in 1844 by the GNR & closed on the 1st of May 1967 when all trains were diverted in to the 'new' City station. The viaduct is totally severed at both ends. The surviving structure has 15 arches with 2 gracefull overbridges adorned by ornate ballustrades that cross the river Aire & Leeds-Liverpool canal. The viaducts total length is 332yds long.
