Young Americans or The Young Americans may refer to:
David Robert Jones (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016), known as David Bowie (/ˈboʊ.i/), was an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, painter, and actor. He was a figure in popular music for over five decades, and was considered by critics and musicians as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s. His career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, and his music and stagecraft significantly impacted popular music. During his lifetime, he sold an estimated 140 million records worldwide. In the UK, he was awarded nine platinum album certifications, eleven gold and eight silver, and released eleven number-one albums. In the US, he received five platinum and seven gold certifications. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
"Across the Universe" is a song recorded by the Beatles. It was written by John Lennon, and credited to Lennon–McCartney. The song first appeared on the various artists' charity compilation album No One's Gonna Change Our World in December 1969, and later, in different form, on Let It Be, the group's final released album.
One night in 1967, the phrase "words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup" came to Lennon after hearing his then-wife Cynthia, according to Lennon, "going on and on about something". Later, after "she'd gone to sleep – and I kept hearing these words over and over, flowing like an endless stream", Lennon went downstairs and turned it into a song. He began to write the rest of the lyrics and when he was done, he went to bed and forgot about them.
The flavour of the song was heavily influenced by Lennon's and the Beatles' interest in Transcendental Meditation in late 1967 – early 1968, when the song was composed. Based on this he added the mantra "Jai guru deva om" (Sanskrit: जय गुरुदेव ॐ) to the piece, which became the link to the chorus. The Sanskrit phrase is a sentence fragment whose words could have many meanings. Literally it approximates as "glory to the shining remover of darkness", and can be paraphrased as "Victory to God divine", "Hail to the divine guru", or the phrase commonly invoked by the late Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in referring to his spiritual teacher "All glory to Guru Dev".
Americans are citizens of the United States of America. The country is home to people of many different national origins. As a result, most Americans do not equate their nationality with ethnicity, but with citizenship and allegiance. Although citizens make up the majority of Americans, non-citizen residents, dual citizens, and expatriates may also claim an American identity.
The majority of Americans or their ancestors immigrated within the past five centuries, with the exception of the Native American population and people from Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippine Islands who became American through expansion of the country in the 19th century, and American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Northern Mariana Islands in the 20th century.
Despite its multi-ethnic composition, the culture of the United States held in common by most Americans can also be referred to as mainstream American culture, a Western culture largely derived from the traditions of Northern and Western European colonists, settlers, and immigrants. It also includes influences of African-American culture. Westward expansion integrated the Creoles and Cajuns of Louisiana and the Hispanos of the Southwest and brought close contact with the culture of Mexico. Large-scale immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries from Southern and Eastern Europe introduced a variety of elements. Immigration from Asia, Africa, and Latin America has also had impact. A cultural melting pot, or pluralistic salad bowl, describes the way in which generations of Americans have celebrated and exchanged distinctive cultural characteristics.

This is the classic title track from David Bowie's 1975 album 'Young Americans.' Released as a single b/w "Suffragette City" on February 21, 1975, "Young Americans" reached #28 on the Billboard charts—Bowie's biggest American chart success up to that point. David Bowie - Right - 1975 Promo Right is the fourth track from David Bowie's brilliant 1975 album, Young Americans. I have tried to construct a credible promo for "Right" from the fragments of footage shot during rehearsals and recording for the album, at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, in the latter part of 1974. Along with Bowie, the other singers are Luther Vandross, Ava Cherry, and Robin Clark. In the video we see Bowie and Vandross working together on the complex vocal arrangements. I haven't been able to identify the saxophone player, he's clearly not David Sanborn. And the guy grooving next to the sax man is Mike Garson, Bowie's pianist of course. Right' is my favorite track from Bowie's 1975 album, Young Americans. The final minute of the repeated "Never Need No" falsett...

Young Americans (1975) David Robert Jones was born on 8 January 1947, in Brixton, south London, England. His mother, Margaret Mary "Peggy" (née Burns; 1913–2001), was born in Kent, and had Irish ancestry; she worked as a waitress. His father, Haywood Stenton "John" Jones (1912–1969), from Yorkshire, was a promotions officer for the children's charity Barnardo's. The family lived at 40 Stansfield Road, near the border of the south London areas of Brixton and Stockwell. Bowie attended Stockwell Infants School until he was six years old, acquiring a reputation as a gifted and single-minded child—and a defiant brawler. David Bowie – vocals; guitar; keyboards Carlos Alomar – guitar Mike Garson – piano David Sanborn – saxophone Willie Weeks – bass guitar (except on "Across the Universe" and "F...
The original version of Young Americans was recorded in August 1974, and released as a single in February, 1975, and in March, on the David Bowie album, Young Americans. The live medley with Cher was aired on November the 23rd, 1975. It was recorded at the CBS studios in Fairfax, Los Angeles. No recording date could be ascertained. The three Bowie Cher Show performances are so contrasting – the fierceness of Fame, the tenderness of Can You Hear Me and the showmanship of the Young Americans medley. Bowie claims to remember almost nothing of the recording of the show or of meeting Cher. This is consistent with his claims about the entire Station To Station / LA period where there was little sleep and sustenance was mainly in powder form. Years later Bowie speculated, “I was probably this ...

Young Americans" is a single by British singer-songwriter David Bowie, released in 1975. It is included in the album with the same name. The first studio result of Bowie's mid-1970s obsession with soul music, "Young Americans" was a breakthrough hit for the artist in the United States (where the single was released in an edited 3:11 version). The sound, often later reflected on by Bowie as "plastic soul", was matched by a cynical lyric, making references to McCarthyism, black repression via Rosa Parks, Richard Nixon (who had resigned the U.S. Presidency two days before the recording session), as well as a near-direct lift from The Beatles' "A Day in the Life" with the line "I heard the news today oh boy!" (John Lennon, who originally authored the line, appeared twice on the Young Americans...

I posted the fine 'Can You Hear Me' from the 'Young Americans' album earlier this morning. Back in 1991, this CD was released, which contained two songs which didn't quite make the parent album. They were both definitely not filler songs, in fact, I think the version of 'Across The Universe' could have been placed on the subs bench in favour of either of the unused songs. Here is one of these tracks, entitled 'Who Can I Be Now?'. The other song is a ballad entitled 'It's Gonna Be Me'. David was a full on Soul boy at this point in his career. My 4th David Bowie album and I really like the songs 'Young Americans' and 'Fame' (which are on this one). This album is a 1999 digital remastered version.
